I am feeding Miles homemade baby food 2 times a day, breakfast and dinner. He gets oatmeal and fruit for breakfast and brown rice cereal and veggie for dinner. He is nursing whenever he wants and is co-sleeping and nursing in the night. He will be 7 months on Friday......am I feeding him too much solids?

No, I think it sounds OK.

studies show that solids end up replacing breastmilk. Solids are poorly digested through the first year. So food is for FUN not nutrition the full first year. I would cut back personally, and feed him enough to satisfy his social desire to be "part of things" and his curiosity to try new textures and flavors, but I wouldn't be "filling him up" with things that tend to pass through fairly untouched and just land in the diaper :giggle:
rice crispies are fun for babies at that age. they won't choke, they get to work on their pincer grasp, they wont eat much so still get all that great breastmilk, and they get to play at the table with you :goodvibes:

I think your fine... your baby will lead the way...
My babe is 8.5 mths... up until this wk lunch was optional for him and now he is starving and krusty w/o it. Everychild is different.

Sounds great to me:goodvibes: As long as his bowels are regular, I think that is fine.

sounds like alot to me too. breast milk (or formula) should comprise most of their nutrition for the first year.

Do what seems right to you. While breast milk SHOULD comprise most of his daily nutrition, if his bowel habits are regular, no constipation, no fussiness...do what you feel is right for your lo! GOOD LUCK MAMA

Thanks for all the advice.... Miles really is only eating a very small amount of food those 2 times a day. 2 ice cubes of food to be exact. He is still mainly nursing and getting all his nutrition from breast milk and is free to nurse when he wants too:goodvibes: I think I am going to stick with our feeding schedule, he was mad today when I tried to skip breakfast:blush:

Logan is the same way, I know when it gets to be time for him to get his fruits and veggies. He actually whins for it when I get busy with his sister and forget to start breakfast for him

Hi,
My little one was born the same day as your son was. He is eating two gerber stage foods a day..one fruit, one veggie. He also takes 4 8 ounce bottles a day between 6am and 10pm. So it sounds like your feeding your son exactly what he needs. I know if my little one isn't hungry he wont take all of the bottle.

Just so you know, your feeding schedule sounds just fine to me.
Breastmilk SHOULD make up most of your baby's nutrition, but with only 2 ice cubes a day of solids, he is definitely getting most of what he needs from you!
Some babies need more than others and although MOST babies should get most of their nutrition from BM, I really feel like you can't put all babies into a box. My milk was just not sufficient nutrition for Jed, because he has a metabolism like mine. He was cranky and fussy, constantly nursing but not gaining any weight, and ended up getting sick for an entire month. I tried solids with him every day, but he was uninterested until about 9 months of age. Once we found something he liked (yogurt) he finally started to gain weight and he became a MUCH happier baby.

My first dd didn't eat more than a handful of cheerios until she was nearly 15 months old. I planned to do the same with #2, but she had other ideas:giggle: She was born 3/11/07 and eats maybe 1 ice cube's worth throughout the day. We feed her soft chunks of random stuff in her mesh feeder, along with graham crackers, zweiback toast and puffs. She loves doing it herself and rarely lets you spoon feed her.
As long as he isn't cutting back on nursing and you aren't forcing it on him (which it obviously doesn't sound like it from your post) I think you're doing just fine.
