My 5 month old is not rolling over yet. He does not like tummy time at all and worse, he spits up almost every time I try to d otimmy time with him. Am I doing something wrong? I have tried puting a nursing pillow under him, rolling up a blanket and puting it under him, getting on the floor with him, but he just smooshes his face down and fusses. Shouls I invest in a "tummy time toy?" If so please make recommendations.

Hey mama! I have a 5 month old who isn't rolling, too. He is dc #3 for me. My other 2 rolled at exactly 3 months, so this is new for me.

My guy doesn't really care to be on his tummy much, either. He ends up frustrated. He likes his back much more and will do "crunches" trying to sit or roll or see what is going on (but still no sitting or rolling). I figure he is still working those muscles and don't know what else to do.

Honestly, I just keep telling myself that by the time he is 18 months he will be rolling/sitting/crawling/walking/running and it won't matter when he started any of them.

Do you wear your baby at all? if so, then that counts as 'tummy time' as he is using the same muscles.

We never did 'tummy time'. He spent time on his tummy, but that was chest to chest with me so he liked that, play time with mommy, ya know?

Yeah, get thyself a sling! Being worn counts as tummy time, since thy are developing the tummy, back and neck muscles needed to balance themselves and keep themselves steady as you walk around. Plus it wont make him cry!

Tummy time haters here too. I never pushed it. I liked to hold them a LOT and they are both fine!

Is your baby chunky? I think its harder to roll being chunky. Dd was super-chunky...and had a big old cloth diaper on, so I think she probably rolled a month later than ds...and it was during her naked time!

My DS hates tummy time, although lately he's started to go longer before complaining. I'm not sure why. I also lie down on the couch, and put him on top of me, and give him tummy time on mommy. He seems to like that better. And, I can't give DS tummy time too close after he's eaten, or he spits up terribly.

the best thing that helped us with tummy time is putting Emerson's bent arms under her chest...and then gentle pressure on the bum

also, you can kneel your baby down and lean them on your thigh (with you sitting on the floor with your leg straigh)...this also "counts" as tummy time

we use cards by Wee Gallery...Emerson really likes them

Glad to know babywearing counts, too. I wear him in a SPOC wrap and a Snuggli.
Still wondering when he'll roll.

This got me thinking about babies in the "olden days." I mean, they didn't lay babies on the dirt floor...maybe they used the cradle??? I dunno, maybe they laid those beautiful quilts on the ground for baby to play on. :headscratch:

in the old days, they slept on their tummy and tummy time wasn't necessary ...

I had to LOL at this. ITF how things used to be. Actually, I usually sleep my babies on their tummies as soon as they can roll because they like it better. This one doesn't like the tummy, therefore not rolling, so no tummy sleep for him...which he would probably hate. The circle of life!

Well now you ladies are really going to laugh. He has always likes to sleep on his tummy. Ever since he was born it was either the tummy or on his side. The pediatrician gave me the "ahh ok" for tummy sleep on his 2 month check up. AND... he can sit up briefly on his own (until he tries to eat his feet then he falls to the side). But I was always told that wearing your baby too much would inhibit heir physical developement. I have a Baby Bjorn that he like to be in face out and I'm getting a Moby in the mail any day. I'm glad to hear tha baby wearing counts because he LOVES HIS MAMA!

Hehehe...I had to change my lo on a restroom counter (meh, I know, it was just cleaned at church) ANYWAY, he totally rolled over onto his tummy after I got his clothes back on him! And today my ods said the baby rolled again. He's just gonna do things in his own sweet time.

Okay, so I broke out the Baby Bjorn and carried his chunky butt all over the mall! I dunno know who got more exercise, me or him.

Sorry, can't help you there. My kids all rolled early and have all loved being on their tummies. In fact, my girls would never sleep on their backs unless the happened to roll onto them once they were asleep. And I had never really done tummy time except for my youngest and that was because she didn't gain weight as a newborn (didn't hit birth weight until right past 2 months) and so she had low muscle tone.

Mine never sat on time. They were too busy moving.

there are some neat little baby mirrors, usuaully on a slanted peiece of foam so they can look at themselves during tummy time, or tummy time or your chest so he can look at you
