For those that did baby cereal with their ebf babies what did you mix it with?
For dd#1, I started with bm but since my body isn't super co-operative with a pump, it slowly moved over to a combination of bm/water to eventually water.
For dd#2, I think I tried all bm, a combo and all water and she refused them all (including pureed food) so she was ebf until she could finger feed herself.
Now with dd#3......I'm thinking I might just start with the water and get her used to that taste since I'm not a great pumper.....

I can't stand to pump anymore...been there, done that...hate it. So just water and she loves it.

If I gave cereal, it was mixed with pureed peaches since they were always so runny.

Sometimes I mixed it w/water and juice, but if I had pumped breastmilk on hand then I mixed it w/that. If I had no juice/no pumped milk I used babyfood :goodvibes:
Wow....Im out of the loop~I didn't know till now that Heinz or any company put formula IN the cereal :headscratch: then again I don't know much about formula :p

For my first baby I mixed it with formula.
For my second baby I made it homemade.
I skipped cereal completely with my third.
With my fourth I mixed it with water. I actually tried mixing it with breast milk and he didn't like it! That kind of hurt my feelings....

Hand-expressed the milk right there at the table - Gotta love milk on tap! - after cereal he quit all babyfood until finger food solids. 6-9 mos refused everything but breast milk and a Dorito (oops!)

In Canada they have this brand called Milupa that contains something like 35% formula. I've known a couple moms with ff babies that use it. They say it mixes up really nice and smooth. I personally have always avoided it purely on the basis of it containing formula since my dd's have all be ebf :goodvibes:

:giggle: My 5.5 month old had a spoonful of chili the other day. :yuck: She grabbed the spoon right out of my bowl and had it in her mouth before I could stop her. I'm thinking she is going to like the cereal/babyfood way better than dd#2 :goodvibes:

With DD I used breastmilk until I started making cereals at home (and you have to boil those bad boys!). But by then, she was already taking milk from a sippy (and nursing), so no big loss!

My first didn't like cereal, so with #2, I just did water. we did that for a week just to work on the "eating" thing, then moved on to baby food. I make my own (super easy, cheaper and less packaging!!) and I just make it runnier and use cereal to thicken it up to help out by adding the extra iron that is in the cereal....I don't like to do the vitamin drops!

My babycakes is an enormous 21 lbs at 6 months! He gets plenty of boob juice all day (and night), so mama feels she deserves a break with the cereal and it's water all the way. We do, however, mix it with whatever fruit or veggie I've pureed for him at that meal. :)

I tend to lean away from cereals just because they are empty calories. If I did use them I would most definitely use bm to make sure they were actually getting some good nutrients. If you do give cereals I can understand using just plain water. My breasts have never taken too well to a pump either.
When my daughter was a baby she was low in iron and her pediatrician I used before I started going to our naturopath suggested I use some iron fortified cereals but I chose to instead use other nutritous foods that were heavy in iron like the leafy greens and broccoli etc...

I did give Jed some cereal, always mixed with breastmilk.. mainly for the added iron. I didn't do it for long ... he only had cereal a few times. I got fed up with baby food quickly, and we started out with (easily manageable and always supervised) table food -- chunks of banana, cubed tofu, stuff like that, soft and tough to choke on.
Now, at 14 months, he eats real oatmeal mixed with cow's milk. :goodvibes: I'd still be using BM if I could, but my supply just barely meets his needs and I am too lazy to pump...

I started with bm, but very quickly got tired of pumping and switched to water. And a bit of fruit puree.

I just use water, It is easier. I started out with BM, but with a 23 month old and a 7 month old I don't have the time or energy to mess with a pump! She likes it better with water anyway.

Sometimes water, sometimes breastmilk. Now when we have oatmeal - he's 13 months - I mix in a little soy milk. I wish I pumped more, but I just can't find the time anymore to pump when we are nursing so much still and the second I get out the pump he wants to climb up on my lap and chew on the tubes...

Breastmilk at first, later juice, applesauce, any pureed fruit....
She likes flavor!

We didn't start with cereal, and DD didn't get it very often, but when she did have cereal, we mixed with breastmilk. We did homemade baby food and if it was too thick, I mixed it with breastmilk as well :goodvibes:

Breastmilk or organic juice.

We didn't do cereal for very long, but when we did we added formula. My DD was breastfed and formula fed, and by the time she was ready for cereal, there was no way I was touching a pump ever again (I exclusively pumped for almost 3 months :yuck: )

E is FF, so we put formula in w/ her cereal.

The first time or two, I used bm, but I am like others, don't like/ can't pump well. So I chose to use jarred fruit or applesauce. That got to be a pain also, because in the beginning ds ate very little solids so I felt it was wasteful to open a jar and not use it all. So we now use just water. Or fresh fruit if we are having it.
My ds is NOT a picky eater at all, though. So it was pretty easy to make the switches. He just loves to eat.

I mixed it with breast milk and homemade babyfood. We started DS out of homemade baby food, not cereal.
