I am thinking of moving my 20 month old to a twin bed .. I was thinking of just putting the mattress on the floor .. Do i need a bed rail ? what if I put it on the box spring ? What other ways do you move your kids up to a bigger bed ?

If you are putting the mattress on the floor, I do not think that there is a need for a bed rail. With the box spring and mattress it is more of your call. It wouldn't be a far drop, but if you think that your kidlet will be really upset by the fall, go with the bed rail.

my oldest was in a toddler bed attached to my bed then moved him into a big bed not long ago. He was too restless to keep beside me any longer. ;)

I wouldn't use one if it was on the floor. I would if it was on a mattress or frame though.

I use toddler beds after they move out of cribs:thumbsup:

We move to a toddler bed at 2yrs old and then closer to 3 we moved our daughter to a twin bed. She is now 4yrs and starts out in her bed and wakes up durring the night and ends up in our bed.

A big part of it is how wiggly your child is. My son didn't really move in his sleep. He started sleeping in a toddler bed at a year and a regular twin bed (bottom bunk of a bunk bed) when he was a little over 2 and he was fine. My oldest, however, tends to move a lot. She was in a toddler bed until 3 and then moved to a twin. We didn't put rails on it. My son is 4 and he sleeps in a twin bed with no boxspring. We just put a piece of plywood down and the mattress on top of that. If he does by chance fall out of bed, it's maybe a 2 foot drop, but I don't think it's even that high.

Nope, we dont use one with our king size bed. The companies dont even say that its bad for the bed. So rock on, the kids dont have that far to fall and they can get up on the bed.

We are about to put a twin mattress on the floor to convert to crib to bed so my youngest can get the crib when she is ready. I am not going to buy rails until it is up off the ground and she could get hurt by falling.

We use a toddler bed, but I don't think you need a rail if you're just doing a mattress on the floor. I don't use the rails on the toddler bed either even though it came with them.
