View Full Version : Is it bad to regift ...to your own baby?

Our baby is 2 months old. We just had 2 "meet the baby" showers within the past 2 weeks - she got a few little toys and some bath stuff, bibs and other small things - do you think it's a bad idea to use some of that stuff as stocking stuffers for her??? There are no pictures from the shower that show the things I'm thinking of using. I just can't see spending MORE money on the little stuff we don't need... we have tons of bibs, tons of bath stuff, 8 million rubber duckies, 12 infant feeding spoons, etc etc etc...

My hubby and I will be home with our baby girl on Christmas morning - so it'll just be us (nobody that gave us the gifts in the first place). We don't "do" Christmas presents for each other so the only stuff under the tree will be for Laura. Do you think it's a bad idea to just use the stuff we already got? We mainly just want to have pictures of her first Christmas.

I do want to get her a book about the Christmas story though!

Well if it is bad, then I'm a bad person! LMBO. A lot of things for our kids will be regifts b/c that's the only way they'll have presents this year. We've gotten a few packages recently w/little things in them that I just hid away for stocking stuffers. I snatched up a few things from oldests bday party to use as gifts from santa. I even found a riding toy from DS#1 he got last year and was way too young for that is still in the box that he will get this year form santa.

It's not bad at all. And baby will not know.

No, it's not bad. Actually with our DS#2, he was only 3 mos old, so he only got 1 thing for christmas it was a regift from family . HEHE. He has no idea, and at less than 1 year, probably doesn't care.

Great idea Mama! No need to waste money on things you don't need...plus if your LO is like mine then paper and things like paper towel rolls are more exctiing than actual gifts anyway!

I'd do something like this if I could get away with it. But dd#1 is way to observant and would totally know if I tossed a blanket in we already have or something like that. :)

it really doesn't matter, she's two months old, she is not going to know the difference, the only person that is going to know is you. I see no harm in it.

Nick's stocking has tons of things from the baby shower in it.

His presents under the tree are some outfits from the shower, some neat things I got at garage sales , a couple pairs of longies, and an xmas fleece sleepsack...

dh doesn't keep track and I don't see why I should spend money when he has he things he needs... besides he'll get lots of new things from both grandparents house we'll be visiting...

I agree. Go for it!

I think that's a great idea, I never thought of that.

I would just be careful of pictures that others will see. If they see a picture of your LO "opening" gifts that they gave for a shower gift it may come across bad. just my :2cents: - and I know my MIL and family would be offended (but they are always offended :giggle:

I'd go for it :goodvibes: Shes so little I don't think it would matter. I've def. been known to do it! Especially since all mine have bdays right before christmas! More important I think is to have fun.

I think it's fine.

My son is getting a rocking horse passed down from his sister, and I'm giving my daughter one of my old dolls that I've been saving for her for years. They'll get other (new) presents, too.

I agree with pp, I don't think it's a big deal, especially since she is sooo young. With DS last year we only bought him 1 gift, and put a few things in a stocking. We took video and pics of him opening the present and the stocking, but he was only 8 months old so i couldn't really see spending tons of money on christmas stuff for him! This year, if our daughter is here in time, I will probably use some of the stuff I already have bought for her stocking so I don't need to get anything else, or I might not even fill her stocking b/c she'd only be a few weeks old at the most, it's not like she'll know she has a stocking anyways!! =)

I had things left over from DS baby shower.. from over a year ago LOL.. Things like forks/big spoons toddler type stuff... So I am using those in his stocking :)

I am doing that for our youngest. We have the incrediblock that goes with the peek a blocks that we got for our dd 2yrs ago and that is Elijah's "big" present this year. He has no clue and he will just be getting to the point where he can play with it soooo we don't have to spend $$ on something else to clutter the play room and we have a really nice present for the baby. Usually the big present isn't wrapped so that works out perfectly for us.

If you have something that they can unwrap, usually that is all they care about until they are older. 2months she isn't going to know the differance. If you are lucky she will be awake!!:goodvibes: (my first one slept thru his first christmas at 2 mo old!!)

Well I let DS play with one of his toys in the store to help him stay quiet that I plan on giving him.

I plan to regift several items to him and others. I'm just always careful not to regift items MIL has given me. :giggle: She wouldn't take it well.

I think it's totally fine! At that age, this Christmas is more for you than it is for her, cause she's not going to remember anything. It's great to take pictures and have memories to tell her of her first christmas, but it doesn't matter what she opens. I think even when they get a bit older than she is, the most fun part of it is ripping the paper and playing in the boxes and bows.

I think it's fine too!!! DS is going to be just shy of 6 months, so he's getting a few actual toys. But I got a bunch of his toys at Goodwill, and they are pretty much brand new. He is also getting a couple brand new toys from Santa but he already played with them. :) I just wanted to make sure he liked them. He did. I can't wait though, it'll be so fun!! :goodvibes:

I think it is perfectly fine. I just wish I had patience with my children to do this. I can say our Christmas presents for our ds's will be a mixture of new store bought, new handmade and used items from consignment stores/sales, garage sales, craigslist and thrift stores.
I'm doing the same with things for dd on the way. If she comes before Christmas idk if she'll even have anything under the tree as she is due in January. Many of her baby things are used, or made by me. Only a few are store bought new.
Dh and I think we do our kids a service to provide them with quality, fun, safe toys, vs. specifically new from the package toys. By doing this we also have saved $ which is always better for the kids/family.
Another choice you can make is regift to her the toys, and if you have discovered some needs that she has in clothing, or baby items, make those her "presents" too.
hth.

Heck our baby (#3) is coming home from the hospital 1-2 weeks before Christmas and she's getting diapers for Christmas!! (hehe) I think I will have the kids get her or make her something but its more for their benefit. I mean even 1 year olds don't really get the re-gifting thing! Its better for kids and families not to be too reliant on the gift thing anyway.
