No really. DD1 and I were going through her outgrown clothes tonight and there are numerous pairs of underwear & I don't know what to do with them! I do NOT want to disrespect the charities that accept donations if this is a no-no, but they're still wearable and in reasonably good condition (faded) but she outgrew them. What do I do with these?

I think they would be a tad too big, she is still in 2T panties :lostit:

I was wondering this too...DH switched from tightie whites to boxers and now all the whities are chilling unused in a drawer. (Some are brand new! but open) and nobody in my fam fits or will wear them!
Off to CHKD thrift store....

If you donate to the chain thrift stores like Goodwill, they sell the clothes that they can't sell in bulk to shop rag companies, so they get recycled. I always have 2 bags in my closet, 1 for donate & 1 for donate for shop rags. That way they don't even have to go through it (especially if my old underwear or bras are in there!:giggle: ).

try freecycle.
Also, I know Deseret Industries takes the stuff it doesn't resell and gives it to people in third world countries. (but they aren't as common as goodwill it seems)

I've seen underwear for sale in thrift shops so I'm assuming someone donated them somewhere along the way.

My inlaws own a thriftstore and they get underwear in, and sell it. Most of my boys' underwear has come from there. I personally dont like to use it unless it looks new, no stains etc. I have even worn some from there. Hey, I figure I buy used cloth diapers and stick it on DD's tushie, I can wear used underwear occasionally :lostit:

Deseret Industries or DI is owned by the LDS church (aka Mormons) and is only in the states that have high LDS populations and are close to the church headquaters...so Idaho and Utah. I haven't seen them anywhere else that I can remember? And yes, anything they can they donate to third world countries. :)

DH worked at Savers for 2 yrs and I asked him.. he said that they could not sell underwear in the store unless it is obviously brand new, however all clothing and shoes that were unsellable were cubed up and sent off to Africa

Heck,I just asked for usable underwear for the boys in the frb swap LOL!
I figure they all wore used cloth diapers, what is wrong with used cleaned underwear that doesn't have stains and has life in it if someone else outgrew them? My oldest Son wears the hand me downs from his cousins when we get them without any problem!! So I figure donating them isn't much different. Now that you said something I wonder if the mama I gave all the boys outgrown clothes to thought it was weird to get a bunch of used boys
2t/3t undies. Oh well, if she doesn't want them she can dispose of them.

Our thrift store sells them. I was pretty surprised to see that!
We used to give it to a women's shelter when we lived in CA. Its something they have a NEED for. Most women leave (with their children) with just the clothes on their back, and need those types of essentials.

My understanding is that charities will take them, but if they are operating a thrift store, they have a hard time selling them, especially used adult underwear. A charity that just plain gives clothes to people in need could probably use them though.
