Write your name on them? Dye them?

I bought chico bags. None of the stores around here sell them, so I have never had an issue.

I use mine all the time w/o an issue. I did go through & mark a line through the barcode just to be on the safe side. Mine are recycled plastic & have a barcode on bottom. But even before I did that no one ever questioned me.

I just keep them in the cart & pull them out & hand them to the cashier when I check out. I don't set them on the belt w/the groceries.

My local Kroger knows me. So they don't question me, or even bat an eye at me. Most of the checkers at the self checkout know to clear the scale for me because of my bags. :giggle:

We have them and love them. the more you use them the more wear they get and that will tell them alone that you aren't ganking them.

I just bought my first cloth grocery bags, and the cashier wrote her initials on the bottom of each one. I asked her why, and she said it's so I don't get charged again (although that'd be hard to do once the tag is taken off).

I love mine. I put off getting them for a long time because we really do reuse our plastic bags for sooooo many things, but we've got a good stash built up now, so I can use my cloth ones till I need more waste basket bags. :giggle:

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE using these! I know there are better ones out there but my .99 cent bags from Kroger are worth the price by far.... Okay not too stylish but they are great. I have started using them at other stores too. Plus they keep my groceries contained rather than the cans rolling all over my van!! Another plus is I can easily carry them into the house in less trips than it took when I was using plastic because they hold more and don't dig into my hands.

On another note...I have never been charged for them a second time either! I wouldn't worry about it too much!! Like someone else said just don't put them on the checkout counter!

Kroger's sells them for $.99/each new, if you ever need anymore PM me and I can get them for you for that + shipping and save you some $$$$

To the OP- I have my last name written on the side of mine in sharpie. And I love that I get $0.05 off my bill per bag that I bring in. After 20 uses they are paid for, mine have already completely paid for themselves plus some :D

I bought some at my local grocery store for $1 each, I LOVE them, I can fit SO much in them. I took them into WM when I went in and the cashier went on and on about how she had never seen anyone actually use them :headscratch:

You can say that again! Mine are so busted up, but they keep on truckin'!

And in one store, they scan the barcode on the inside so I get 3 cents back.

Look out Neiman Marcus, here I come!

I bought mine at our local Whole Foods for $1 each and no one has ever questioned me when I've brought them back into the store. I never even considered that they would, but I'm kind of dumb like that! FYI I looked at them at a couple of different store and I really think the Whole Foods bags are the biggest and sturdiest ... ....

We use organic cotton string bags. I love them. They are sturdy and lightweight and compact.

Walmart's got them for $1. That's where I got mine.

I've never had an issue at a grocery store, but once I took one of my bags to a thrift store and the cashier kept looking all over it for a price tag so she could charge me. It took a lot of explaining--she didn't get it at all.

Now I write my name on the back of the tag inside.

When they're brand new in the store they're usually pretty stiff and perfect looking. After one use, they'll look a little softer and it's easy to tell that they're not right off the rack.
And, for $0.99, who's going to try to steal that and be dumb enough to ask the cashier to use it to bag? I guess (in the stores) they realize that if someone is shoplifting, it's most likely not the crunchy mama with kids in tow trying to use a cloth grocery bag! kwim? :giggle:

I went to Pier 1 today and found some very stylish reusable shopping bags for $1.99 each. I got a green one with black screen printed branches on it and a tan one with black screen printed zebra stripes. I should have bought more than 2!!! They're about the same size as the plastic sacks from Walmart and perfect for quick grocery shopping trips. I can't wait to use them! Oh, and because they actually read "Pier 1" on them, it'll be obvious to the Walmart and Dillon's cashiers that I'm not buying them from their stores!

i wrote our last name on the inside of ours with a sharpie. also, if they're cloth, run them through the washing machine. it helps it to look broken in!

I've gotten my large stash from Trader Joe's-I decorated mine "insulated" one, but they don't often ask, they can usually tell if it feels "new" or not. I've also made one out of hemp linen and it was so easy, I may make some more...the hardest part is to convience my hubby to bring them back IN the car after we've used them to bring the stuff in the house-I usually put the on the door handle to remember.
