Hi there, I am stumped for a gift for my MIL:banghead: . It is from both of us (DH and myself) but he is no help in finding something. I am making a ton of gifts this year and do not think I have time to make her anything (scarf or hat, etc). I am thinking I am going to have to buy her something, wanting to spend about $40. Does anyone have an suggestions, aside from the obvious sweater/glove route- they live in Jacksonville, FL. Thanks ladies, need all the help I can get with this!:goodvibes:

My MIL died before we were married, but I am giving my mom photographs of the grandkids in a cool personalized mat by Divapoppins in WAH Wares.

What about a gift card to her favorite store or restaurant? Has she mentioned anything that she would like/need/etc? Sometimes buying them something that they may want/need, but wouldn't buy themselves is a great idea.
We are getting MIL some really nice expensive 'wintery towel set' with matching soap dispenser. A gift card to buy whatever she wants, and some stocking stuffers. {She lives in the north though, so they do get snow}.
Last year we got her a Christmas vest {what she had been asking for}, some scrapbook pages/stickers/album/etc since she does that and a gift card to a nice restaurant.
We are also thinking of getting tshirts that have something about grandma/grandpa and have our kids pictures on them and/or handprints/footprints. {She loves things like that}:giggle:
My MIL is really laid back though and truly loves anything we give as long as it is something that we know she likes. {meaning that we took the time to think about her instead of just grabbing something random}. She is very talented at 'making things' but I am 'craft challenged' so I have to buy.
My first MIL was pretty picky and I HATED trying to buy anything for her. I finally got sick of being so nervous and bought her lingerie type gown. FIL appreciated it!:giggle: {it was classy don't worry}:giggle:
Good Luck! Let us know what you decide!:goodvibes:

we're making fleece knotty blankets (easy and fast) for my mil, an herbal pillow and ouch pouch set for my mom, 2 door snakes (for drafts) for her girlfriend, and a bathmat (http://scentofwater.wordpress.com/tutorials/simple-applique-bath-mat/) for BIL and customizing an apron for my moms girlfriend.
I'm so tired of books, cds, gift certificates, sweaters, slippers, bath salts that make your skin itch KWIM?
We're making cute recipe cards and including a finished product and the dry goods for making their own for several people as well

My inlaws are so picky! It doesn't seem to matter what anyone gives them--they open everything up and say "We don't like it. Can you exchange it?" It's really tempting not to get them anything.
This year I'm giving them a box of chocolates and calling it good.

A photo album with pictures of your family, or framed pic.
A grandmother's necklace or bracelet with either the grandchildren's birthstones or names engraved on boy/girl charms.
A calendar with family pictures or your children's art for each month.

Mamas, thanks for all your helpful ideas! I have been reading them and brainstorming, and then it hit me- what she would really love. I am going to have a personalized calender made for her, with pictures of the little man. She LOVES him and I think that this would be right up her alley! I also have a metal flower arrangement I picked up at a local fair this last summer and I think she will like that too. Thanks again for all the help!

I'm right there with you! We usually get her a Macy's swarkovski crystal snowflake every year, but this year I wanted something a little more personal. I was thinking of making her a personalized calender.

We got this for my mom's bday and uploaded pics to it:)
It is a wallet digital photo album. It's the size of a credit card and only 29.99 at Bed bathand Beyond:) I liked it because it is not bulky and she can show off the kids and look cool:giggle:

My MIL is tough to shop for too, esp. because she is 10 hours away so we don't really know what she has. We had planned on getting her a digital photo frame, but then found out she already had one! But a couple days ago I had what I hope is a good idea. I'm going to use our digital camera to make short little movies of the kids for the next couple weeks and then edit it together all pretty and burn it to DVD. She really misses the kids, so I think she'll like it.

we do 3 different calendars each year. MIL loves the one that DH does for his family (I do one for my mom's side and 1 for my dad's side). We put about 12-15 pics on each month as a nice collage and everyone's birthday, anniversary, etc is on there. One year I put an address/phone list on the back page too so you have family memeber's info handy!
we also got MIL coffee from Kona. We toured this particular farm with her in Jan and she loved it so hopefully it will bring back memories as she savors her coffee every day! (we ordered some extra for her b-day while it was free shipping :goodvibes: )

How about photo mugs with your child(ren) on them? I gave this to my parents last year and they loved them so much that I'm doing them again this year. Wal-mart, Walgreens, Snapfish, etc all offer this.

I have done that for my grandmother for the past 2 years. She loves it and it doesn't clutter up her little room. The only problem is getting pictures from the rest of the family!

I know you already found something, but I'm throwing another idea out there. Lands End is selling tote bags that you can have your child's drawings transfered onto! They are sooo cute: Art totes (http://www.landsend.com/cd/landing/0,,newCoidInd=y:storeNum=1:navColor=1:tabs1Sel=n:t abs2Sel=n:tabs2StructNum=70699:midNavDisp=n,00.htm l?CGI2K_SID) And under $40!

My SO's mom is really into art and drawing, and one year we bought her a basket and filled it with art supplies, real ones, not kid ones. She loved it. This year she wants a collage frame, you know, the ones that hold a bunch of pics, to put our son's pics in. I think I'm going to put some in it though too, not just give it empty. Would your MIL like that? A collage frame with pics of your kids and family?
