I'm partially co-sleeping with my four weeker and I would really love it if we could use a side-car. However, our bed is really tall - like the same height as our changing table. It's up to my hip and I'm 5' 10". So, the Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper would need eight sets of extensions to get it to the right height. I borrowed one from a friend, and I just can't spend that much on extensions.
I think we could get our crib set up so it would work just fine. However, it just seems like it would take up so much room and would be a hassle for me to get in and out of bed. What's your experience with this?

We we side-car a crib to our bed. Our mattress is a pillow top and very high, so we took the frame/supports out of the middle and have the box spring on the floor now. It is a perfect match for the level of the crib.

It does take up a lot of room and it can be a PITA to get out of bed but it's so worth it and I'm used to it now. Usually my dh is up before we are though so I can just get out on his side.

We sidecarred the crib around DD's first b-day just for the extra room (I ended up sleeping more in it than DD ever did  ) and now we have the toddler bed sidecarred (again, just for extra room...and I still use it more than she does LOL). At first I thought the same thing about getting in and out of bed and stuff, but you totally just get used to it and don't think much about it after a while!

Like a pp, we have our mattress on the floor. We have a 16" pillowtop so with the boxspring on the floor, it's a perfect height next to the side carred crib.

my bed has a wood frame around it. I made the crib into a toddler bed and made a metal clamp that secured the 2 together.
My solution doesn't sound like it would work for you though...
