I just started trying to give DS solids. He's just about to turn 7 months. I've tried rice cereal and that was just NOT happening! I'm trying bananas now and he loves them and wants more but he can't seem to open his mouth. He does this weird thing with his tongue and pushes all the food off of the spoon. He's never eaten from a spoon before so he just doesn't know, but I've teased him with a spoon before and he's opened his mouth. How can I encourage him to open. :headscratch:

My ds would do the same thing at first and would get mad if I quit trying to give him some food. (I took him thrusting his tounge out to mean that he wasn't ready or full) Then one day he ate completely normal! :headscratch: Now he just wants to eat, eat, eat!

a whole jar is a lot for a 7mo. Solids are for fun and tasting and the social experience for the first year. Babies don't digest them well at this age. So go slow and try not to replace breastmilk/formula with them :goodvibes:

I don't think it's a lot AT ALL. A jar of first foods is really small and he digested it very well. He's still nursing every 2 hours so no need to worry about it being replaced.

I was curious about one jar being too much because my 7 m/o is eating 2 jars of the Earths Best 2.5oz jars and hasn't cut back on his formula at all (about 30-35oz a day). If one jar is too much than I'm really over feeding, but after one jar he still has his legs kicking and mouth hanging open wanting more. :headscratch: I did this baby thing 10 years ago, you'd think I'd remember something! Glad to hear your little one got it!
Oh, my ds couldn't do the cereal thing either????? Doing great with veggies/fruit though.

It's like everyone says, EVERY BABY IS DIFFERENT! 1 jar may be too much for one child, may be perfect for another, and may be too little for another. YOU as a mom know your child and how much your child can handle. Mine hasn't cut back on nursing either. He's been EBF for 7 months and he's still nursing around the clock!

Takes a while. Start slow and know that it's just about taste and experimenting till he's at least a year old.
Try avacados and sweet potatoes =)
