We are currently in St. Louis but dh has the opportunity to transfer to the NYC office. We looked at Princeton Waldorf School and loved it so will most likely move to the Hopewell area. Anyone here near there?
Dh's parents are both originally from Philly but moved to the Boston area shortly before dh was born. He still has a lot of family in the Philly area - we love it there. I'm looking forward to a lot of day trips.

I'm new here and just typed into my Google search "nj, cloth diaper" and found this thread! I'm sooo excited! I'm new to CDing and eagerly awaiting my starter order of supplies (should be coming in any day now!). I have been having the hardest time finding stuff around here since I'm one of those people that need to touch and see how things work in person and I've been going crazy researching all this stuff. People think I've lost my mind when I say I'm planning on CDing DD2 (7 weeks old) when I never expressed interest in it with DD1 (6 years) and DS (3 1/2 years old) but I just never knew anybody did it anymore.
Someone said they were in Howell?? I'm right in Jackson!
Someone else is from Ocean Twp? I grew up and graduated HS there!
My parents also live in Bay Head so I'm always at the beach :) Am I too late to meet everyone at the beach? If so, any future meetings? You guys won't believe how incredibly excited I am to know that there are so many of you so close to me!!

that would be great!! I have just a few things.. and they are all over the place - for example, I only have one cover for three fitteds and two AIOs and one aristocrat (two prefolds - so now I know I don't like prefolds - unless I just don't know how to use them). The wool soaker, I haven't even used because I'm afraid to lanolize it (sp??) since I read a warning that I may 'shock' it if the water is too hot or too cold!! so we just keep using the AIOs and the one cover for the three fitteds - we wash everyday.
I would love to see your stash to see what I think I would like, and some advise :)

APRIL!!!!!!!!
Hey Momma, I was poking around and saw this post, 8 months later, hahahaha
I was going to post about my IRL friend that CD but you beat me to it. :hugs:
I've been in NJ most of my life. I grew up in So. Plainfield. When I got married I moved to Budd Lake. I met my first CD Mom. She got me into it by lending me some of her kushies AIO. My stash has grown and changed since then.
Now I'm in Burlington County. In fact, speaking of the discovery museum, I go there too.

Janet - how funny! I haven't been on here in quite a while... getting our house in St. Louis on the market & house hunting in NJ and then moving was a big task so my personal time (ie computer time) was just not happening. Then I finally make it back here just after you posted!
We didn't move to Hopewell, found the perfect place for us in Skillman (Montgomery Twp). We've been through Hillsborough several times!
Any tips on cool things to do w/ 3 year olds around here? My dd is having a tough adjustment with my 7 yo in school all day and she & I not being "on the go" as much as we were in St. Louis. There we had a lot of options pretty close to us so it was easy to drop my older son off at school & then she & I would go to a museum, etc... for a couple of hours and still be home by lunch time. Then I'd have a couple of hours to get stuff done around the house before picking up my ds. Now, it seems nearly everything is at least an hour away.

To any mamas in the Deptford/Westville/Woodbury area has anyone delivered at Underwood Memorial? I will have to deliver my DD there and keep hearing bad things about the hospital itself. But at the same time, people keep saying I'm lucky I'm only going there to have a baby.
My DD was born in Hawaii at an Army Hospital and it is so different than civilian hospitals.
Do you have pictures or advise or anything. I'm not doing the tour for awhile. I'm not due until April. Thanks in advance

I had my son a month ago today(March 25) at home on the bathroom floor because he decided he couldn't wait long enough to make it the 5 minutes to Underwood. HAHA He is doing great now after a week in NICU due to aspiration pneumonia.

What a small world! I'm on Katherine Ave. I can't believe you had your son at home! I'm glad he's ok. That's my fear this time around. I was telling DH last week I was worried about not making it to the hospital since my labor with DS was less than 6 hours and I didn't even realize I was in labor to begin with. I have a further drive to the hospital though, b/c my doc delivers in Voorhees.
My friends and family (and our pedi) think it's weird that we CD, but DS' super-sensitive skin and two cases of MRSA staph infections from sposie-caused diaper rash is enough to get them understand why we switched. Then when I tell them how much easier it is than disposables (I'd much rather wash a load of diapers than have to run to the store for sposies!) they go back to thinking I'm nuts.
Were you able to start CDing your son right away or did you wait? Since DS was one when we started, CDing a newborn will be a whole different ballgame. I'm stocked on newborn fitteds and covers, but I think I will use sposies in the hospital & until the meconium is done.
Lingababe
04-27-2009, 08:02 AM
Yes I was worried about not making it to the hospital as well. I was only in labor with my DD for 2 hours(in the hospital 12 min. before she was born). Are you delivering at Virtua?
Most people I tell that I CD think I'm crazy, ask me why or just say, 'ew'. I think most people think of cloth as only prefolds and pins. I use mostly AIOs, but also use prefolds at night, laundry day and when DH isn't around because he just doesn't get it.. LOL
No I didn't get to start right away because my son was in NICU, I also had a couple of pack of Seventh Gen diapers and I use those on occasion, just to use them up. I only have one fitted diaper, but I'm not sure if I like it or not. Are fitteds more like prefolds without the folding? Are they trimmer? I didn't CD my DD so this is all new to me anyway.
I'm PMing you also. :)

Thanks for the info! I'd only been by it in the evening and it looked operational. I guess since it's not part of the park system they have to charge. That's too bad, since Dorbrook can get SO crowded. We're going on Wed. for the first time this summer, DD is excited!

As always (no matter what group I'm in), no one is near me...lol
I'm in Middlesex County, Morgan to be exact (it's part of Sayrville).
I have an (almost) 18 month old daughter who is CDed, a 3yr and 6 month old son who was not (I just got into CDing about 4 months ago). Actually he's not potty trained yet but he's so large that I don't want to buy a ton of CDs for him to not use them for much longer then not be able to use them on anyone else.
He's 3 but he's into 6/7 size clothes some clothes are 7/8. That means he went past 3t, 4T, 5T, XS, S, & M...*SIGH* He's huge. I know!
I like to wear Lily, I'd love to be able to buy a mai tai, even better would be to be able to make one. They are so expensive to buy.
I'd love to get togther. Hugs and Blessings to You and your families.

=mommy2paige;8143437]We might be moving to the Woodbridge NJ area in the very near future. We're actually heading up in a couple of days to see if we like the area. Can anyone tell me anything about it?[/QUOTE]
Somerset is also close to Woodbridge. There is a good size mall on Rt 1 that has a soft play area for little guys to play in. There are so many towns the the area you can check out when looking in the area, just depends on what you want.

I'm really hoping we'll find an area close to dh's work that we like. His company has offered him a fantastic promotion and the only hard part is that we have to move North, away from family and friends, and away from a house that we really love. With his promotion I'm thinking we'll be able to spend $300k-$350 on a house. We'd love new construction if we can find it - open floor plan, 4 bdrms. Good school district is important to us too. We basically know nothing about Woodbridge right now so there's going to be lots to discover :) Looking forward to meeting some of you Moms who might be somewhat close if we decide to move up that way!

4 bedrooms for 350k? NJ is expensive, but it all depends on which area you're talking about. Woodbridge is doable in that price range...Check out www.gsmls.com for realty listings. Also check out the boards on city-data.com and ask about the school district in that area. There are usually a lot of opinions given it and might help with your concerns. Being close to DH's job and good schools are important to us too, which is why we settled for a small condo in a great town, but with our expanding family it's getting to be a bit of a squeeze
Where does your DH work? I'm sure we can throw out some suggestions for you.
ETA: I used to live in and around the South Plainfeild/Scotch Plains/Edison area...I never liked how congested that area is between Rt 22 and Rt 1 and I'm a bit spoiled since living in the Watchung Mountains for some time. It all depends on how you look at it and what you're used to.
Woodbridge has 2 large malls: Woodbridge Mall and Menlo Park Mall. There's also Pearl Paints, which is a huge art supply store. I've never been into the town itself (only the malls). Metuchen is close by and has a cute little town.

I'm up north too...Morris County. Doesn't seem like there are too many of us northern jersey gals out there. But if you guys are into it - we should try to schedule something for the fall. There's so many great parks up here to meet up at.

i'm starting a new post on the northeast region page looking for mamas who may be interested in getting a group together to purchase raw milk...if we have a group and all take turns picking it up (in PA) no one would have to drive out there as often - plus we could (hopefully) get a group discount on what we need...if you'd be interested, please post on there!
thanks!

I have a friend who might be interested. We also bought kefir grains recently, but I'm 'resting' them at the moment, so I don't get ahead of myself too soon.

YAY for Atlantic County moms! Not to diss the other area mama :giggle: it's just nice to see others in the area. We're in Galloway. New to CDing. I have a 6 year old ds, 3 year old dd, and a 5 week old ds. I home school (or more so "unschool") the bunch and we're all a pretty "green" family. Any mamas out there want to meet up some time, let me know. We've all got the winter blue's right now from being shut in's..lmao.

I am a SAHM so I am pretty flexible in terms of days/times. How about others? Someone want to throw out a meeting place? Chester is central to Hunterdon and Morris...there is a really nice playground there. Or there is Lewis Morris Park or Hacklebarny Park. Other ideas???

We hiked Hacklebarney Park in January. It's a really nice place.
Hopefully I can join you where ever you meet. I'm due in April, so we'll see if I'm up to it closer to the time.
