View Full Version : Hi other BC Mamas!

I live in the sunny/snowy Shuswap. I am currently on mat leave but am looking at staying home full time from now on. I have recently become completely addicted to cloth diapering and am hoping to start making and selling dipes and soakers on the near future. There is a severe lack of cd resources in this area, so I hope I can fill that void and make cd'ing easier for other Moms around here!

I would have loved a real life CD store when I was starting out. So much easier to see how everything works and make educated purchases and comparisons when you have the diapers in your hands!

Hi; I'm Tiffany. I live near the coast in Northern B.C. in a lovely town we call Terrace, where it rains and snows at the same time and we rarely see the sun. It's a very pro-CDing community here and I love it. I CD my DD full time and my son is PLing in sposies. Sad I know. I have 2 kids and they are 2yrs and 9mos. I'm a WAHM with my very own HC. Only recently started of course. I make and sell cloth diapers. I started out buying a lot of our dipes but now our stash consists mostly of the ones I make. We have a huge stash and counting, as I always get new fabrics.

Nowhere in Salmon Arm yet. I hope that will change in the near future. I would love to start a diaper store!
There is one online kids' store www.babyplanetboutique.com that has baby kangas, bummis diaper kits, and jamtots stuffers. The owner, Danielle lives in Salmon Arm and is great to work with. She has special ordered items for me in the past. I would definitely recommend her.
I'm not crazy about kushies either. They're okay in a pinch but not my favourite.

There's only one store that sells CDs here, but they're either Kushies or Bummies starter kits only. I never had a problem with the Kushies, and I'm thinking about trying Bummies when #2 comes around.

I'm in Surrey, am CDing my DD who is almost 9 months old. I've been lurking on diaperswappers for a while, finally got an account and I think this is my first post! I have some Bummis covers and prefolds that I find very functional if not fashoinable and a couple of Baby Soft Wraps that we like a lot and some diapers that I have made myself (pockets that I stuff with prefolds).

I'm from the Island too. I live in Shawnigan Lake, but work in Victoria (HI JENN!!!). I have a 3 1/2 year old (pretty near) girl who is finally keeping herself dry, as long as we bribe her with min M&M's and a 1 1/2 year old girl who is currently in BG2.0 AIO pockets and the occassional Swaddlebee, MotherEase or WonderWorks AIO.

For the lower-Island girls, there's a killer consignment store in Duncan at Beverly Corners - Kinderbeez. She has great stuff (and CDs because I just consigned my bunch there!) for good prices.

Good to see so many BC girls here!

I have at least part time CD's all my kids and have grown more fond of it with each one. This time I can honestly say I am completely addicted! We are also waiting on immigration! I'm sponsoring my husband who is originally from California but lives in Seattle. We did the out of country sponsorship since it was quicker than if he moved up and applied from within Canada. It's been difficult since I had our daughter back in December but he comes up almost every weekend. Definitely didn't plan it this way but she had other ideas. We found out I was pregnant 1.5 months after booking our wedding date! Anyway, we sent our application off at the beginning of October, I was approved as a sponsor towards the end of November, his application was received in Buffalo at the beginning of December, and we just heard two weeks ago that he was approved (with no interview required) and that it just needs to be finalized! Can't wait for us to be living under one roof! How is your application coming along?

Hi My name is Tracie and I am in Victoria, BC. I don't have any children yet but my DH and I are trying for our first.:goodvibes: Both of us were cloth diapered as babies and 2 babies I looked after when I was a teen wore cloth diapers. That was 15 years ago, so I am going to hope that things have changed a bit. One mom made all of her dipes, they were fitteds with rubber pants.

Hi - my name is Kelly and I am a WAHM in Kelowna. I have been cd'ing our son (now 18 months) since he was born.
I operate Kelowna's only cloth diaper service and I retail a number of natural baby products as well as products for mom and the whole family. I am thrilled to be helping families get started in and stick with cd'ing as I found there weren't a lot of resources available in the valley when I was getting started.
I am loving my new career as mom and "diaper fairy". Tidy Tushees is the name of our business and we ship throughout Canada.
I don't check in here very often - but I hope to do so more regularly.
Happy Diapering everyone!

Hey everyone!

My name is Mimi and I'm from the Central Okanagan. Glad to see a couple familiar names here already!
I am a SAHM of two, a 5-months-old girl and a boy going on 3 soon. I just started cd'ing last fall when I suddenly had two in diapers and couldn't believe the amount of garbage we suddenly created. Terrible!

I really liked the idea of AIOs and pockets but then realized that I much prefer natural fibers and have found a love for fitteds, bamboo and wool!

Yes, I really wish there was more out here in the Okanagan, especially in the WAHM sector, as it just makes so much more sense to support other mamas at home, preferably locally without paying crazy shipping charges.

Anyone into a local diaper swap party?

Guess I should officially say Hi here! I am in Surrey and we think it's cold here right now, but I suppose it's really not that bad after all . I am just about done my mat leave , going back to work April 1st and my DD will be one year old on April 2nd. I have been CDing since she was born, using diaper service(s) but decided to go it on my own in January and I love it. I am using pockets, mostly one-sized, but I do have a couple fitteds too. I am totally addicted now - DH is starting to get annoyed at my diaper purchases (little does he know I am already thinking about a newborn stash for the next babe lol) My poor cc will never be the same! Anyway great to see so many locals! This site is kind of addictive, too, I'm finding. Great resources and advice.

First, Hi Julie, best of luck going back to work. I love the pic of your daughter, everytime I met you, she was sleeping. She is a doll.

Second, I am going to double post this info (just in case you missed it on the Vancouver board).

I want to let you all know about the Yaletown Baby and Toddler Fair (www.babyandtoddlerfair.com). It is Saturday, April 4, 10am-4pm at the Roundhouse Community Centre (Pacific @ Davie).

There will be exhibitors, seminars, samples and prizes. If you preregister, you will get a gift valued at $25.

For those of us further away towards the valley, there will be a Baby and Toddler Fair at the brand new Langley Event Centre (200th and 80th). It is on May the 2nd, 10-4.

Come see me there, mention Diaper Swappers, and I will give you another 5% off my prices (already discounted for the fair). If you don't need anything right now, I will still have pens, key chains, wipes cubes, wipes and balloons to give away.
Thanks for choosing cloth,
Catherine @ Bouncing Babies

I'm working on sat, but if I get off early enough I'll try to come "to town" and
check out the fair.

Oh, I just realized though I have the 2nd off since my DH is off to Europe - myabe I'll make a day of it. I'm sort of between vancouver and Langley (Delta) although with all of the construction in Van right now it takes a bit longer.

I'll drop in and say hi. Haven't had a chance to read the entire thread yet. I am new to DS but not new to CD'ing. I CD'd my ds who is now 3 and has been PL'd since about 2.5 from about 4 months when I discovered the new and exciting world of cloth. I am now CD'ing my dd who is 7 wks old and have been since her birth. I just made my first purchase from the FSOT.
I am in Prince George and we still have a ton of snow ugh!!

I see this thread is rather old but I just read through the whole thing to see all you BC mamas & your posts!! Some of you have had more babies since page 1 was first posted !!! :)

I'm Becky and I'm a CDing mama in Osoyoos - the southern sunny tip of the Okanagan. Its right on the border and I love the fact that I can order stuff from the US and pick it up in WA. However, I prefer buying my diaps from Canadian sites & stores.

Our little guy just turned 10 months and I have been CDing him since about 6 months - I am so in love with his fluffy butt! I wish I had discovered cloth earlier. We mostly do pockets - I love my BG 3.0s, Baby Kangas, Monkey Doodlez, FB and Drybees (fleece overnight diap is THE BEST) but I am very curious to venture into the world of fitteds.

We are JUST starting to think about TTC #2 (not preventing now anyways) and I def want to try fitteds this next go round but I do love my pockets.

Anyways, just wanted to say HEY and see if I can kick this thread up a few notches.

Becky

Can I be an honorary member? I grew up in Northern BC, Topley to be exact! It's very small :giggle:

Wow mama, I have an old friend who grew up in Topley! Most people don't know where that place is lol.

I'm Breanne and I'm in Penticton :) I have an *almost* 4 year old son named Caden. I have yet to meet any other mamas in my area who CD. I once saw a mom in Walmart who had a son in longies...I was a little excited but DH told me I wasn't allowed to run over to her:giggle:

Hi everyone! I am in Pitt Meadows, BC. We love our BGs and part of my business is about fixing up people's cloth diapes. I love meeting local cloth diapering families!

I'm in Mission and myself and 4 other mamas who met at Mother Goose get together for play dates now. We realized the first time we got tether that all 5 of our LO's are in cloth. I've met tons of babies out here in cloth.....kinda a hippie town though. hahaha

lol....I'm in Chilliwack, and I've driven out to Mission to buy wetbags at your local baby boutique..it sells BG's and Bummi's I think it is. I really wish more stores would get with the program!
