Hello fellow Alaskans,
I just recently had my second daughter in Nov. and decided to take up cloth diapering. I found this ds website and it has been very helpful in breaking me into the process. We are located in Anchorage and I am glad to see a few other Alaskan Mamas out there. Hope you are all staying warm.
Cheers,

HI mamas! Another Alaskan new to DS. We are in Wasilla. I started CDing my DD about 2 months ago. She is already growing out of the mediums!!! So time to scrape up some more $ for fluffy mail..... Does anyone know if there is a 'real' store to buy CDs in the valley/anchorage area? I would love to actually see and feel it before I buy! Or maybe an Alaska mama CD swapmeet......

She isn't crawling yet. But she has lost 2 pounds in the last 2 weeks from being ill  and still doesn't fit the mediums well. We are going mostly with fitteds, which seem to have a bigger size range, and AI2 style. I saw some pics of an AIO with the soaker just tacked in at one end that I love! I had to make one to try it. But I haven't been able to find any affordably priced. (I have so overspent my budget already!)

I'm thinking it would be awesome to chat with some mamas who don't think I'm insane! :lostit: And check out some other styles of diapers, ect.
Everyone could bring whatever they aren't using, have out grown, don't care for, ect. We could also do some other baby/kid, or natural living, related stuff.

So anyone have suggestions for dates and/or locations (free) for the swapmeet?
We are in Wasilla so I suggest Wonderland park -- either the pavilion by the playground or the grassy area with benches near the fire department.
Any monday, wednesday, friday, most saturdays or suday afternoons would work for us.
If there are several suggestions maybe someone can make a new thread with polls to see which would work out beast.

I live in Anchorage, and am opening a children's store in the University Center, set to have its Grand Opening the second weekend in July. It is called Sugar and Spice, A Children's Ecotique. We are specilaizing in eco-friendly, organic products for babies and children.
I am going to carry a few lines of cloth diapers, as well as have a consignment section for used cloth diapers. I will be taking inventory starting the first week in July if anyone wants to make some extra money.
I am going to be pretty picky about what I take--- I want them to be in GREAT condition. Obviously if they are used, they won't be in perfect condition but they still need to look good. I will have a scale on which I price them, based on their condition.
If anyone wants to put theirs on consignment let me know--- I have 4 ladies who are already interested- so the more, the better selection!
My site www dot sugarandspice dot com (they won't let me put a URL in until I have more posts--- I JUST JOINED!)

Do you know where Shoprite is in Wasilla? It's in a strip mall on the Parks Hwy, along with Mat-Su Family restaurant (which I hate) and an educational supply store. Anyways, Tummies & Tots is in the Frontier Plaza which is just on the 'downtown' side of Shoprite mall. HTH

Just to add:
If you know where the Mocha Moose store is...it's right next to that...in the same strip mall as the new Chinese/Sushi Buffet (I think the name of the buffet is Shine's) I love Tummies & Tots...her prices are great and her consignment deal is too! I would be up for one sometime in August...wednesday's work great for us. Mornings would be better since 3pm is during naptime for us.
And for dipes I mostly use fitteds with wool or fleece, occasionally a PUL cover and AIO's, sometimes I use prefolds.

Mostly pockets and AI2 for us, or fitteds with wool shorties. Prefolds as a back-up for diaper rash, ect.

We are a strictly prefold family here! I have some wonderwraps covers that I use if we're away from the house, but I'm starting to knit some longies for the new baby and I just finished a wool sack for the baby, so I'm transitioning from PUL covers to wool. I would love to give another swap a try! Pretty much any day through the week is good for me and any time of the day is fine.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong...
From Anchorage:
Head straight into Wasilla on the Parks Hwy. Turn right on Main Street and make a left at the 4 way stop. Park will be on the left. There is parking on either end of the park.
Don't ask me what to bring though...I wasn't at the last one so I'm curious to know also:giggle2:

Good directions!
Just bring whatever CD items you don't use to trade or sell. Or carriers, mama things, homeschool, ect. The point is mainly to meet up with other CD mamas to visit, and trade/sell/buy baby things we don't use or didn't work for us. Or if you know anyone considering starting cloth please encourage them to come! Then they can see first hand how easy it is and all the options.

I made these fitteds for someone on Cafemom with a baby in NICU. They were supposed to be NB size for an 8 lb girly......but I think they turned out as preemies!

I am in Fairbanks AK. I had my son at BACH on 6th of July08. My daughter was born in Hawaii in Oct 05 so I don't understand the strange AK/HI grouping mentioned. I like AK better in all ways except the cold winters here in AK. I wouldn't mind giving that up.

When we found out we were moving here (we're military) I was really concerned about the winters because I tend to be cold all the time. But they are not as bad as I thought they would be. I would actually rather do a winter here than a winter in Michigan.
I am bummed though. We were hoping to make it up to Fairbanks this summer, but with the price of diesel it just wasn't an option.

So I'm making a bunch of dipes for my DD, and assorted friends & causes, but I really, really would love to make some of them with snaps!
Does anyone have a snap press? Or know someone that has one fairly locally? I'd prefer to rent or buy rather than hire someone for 'snap service'.
Please let me know!
On a seperate note -- I'm having a Party Lite candle party next friday, if anyone is interested.
