I don't know if anyone checks this, but thought I'd try. Does anyone know what or if there will be rules for the swimming pools this summer? With the huge crypto outbreak last year, I would think they might do some different things. My sis said that she saw at one of the pools (can't remember which) children had to wear swim diapers and some type of swim pant. What if I use a FB as a swim diaper? I don't anticipate my 6 month old being in the water a whole lot but my 5 year old likes it and I would like to keep him safe. Thanks!

Hi! I am in N. Ogden too Andrea! Nice to know there are cd'ers close to me. i saw on the news that they were considering requireing kids to wear a swim diaper w/ 'plastic pants' over top. Last year we just used a fb w/ dd and it worked well, but I don't think they've made any official rules yet.

Your 6 month old will need to wear a swim diaper and another snug cover but the 5 year old will be fine. I believe that most pools only require swim diapers on children who are not potty trained(or recently trained).

My pool doesn't care one way or the other! Good and bad I guess!

Thanks guys! I didn't know if I would have to buy disposable swim diapers in addition to using a FB. I would think the FB would do a better job at containing the mess than a disposable.

Hi Amy! I don't come across to many that cloth around here. I love it and am so glad I made the plunge. :giggle:

Balani

I'm in Layton.

From what I've seen, the pools require all kids under 3 years to wear a swim diaper, whether they are potty trained or not. And of course they still have to if they are over 3 and not trained. I've heard of lots of people using a pocket diaper without an insert or a cover for a swim diaper. I bought some cloth swim diapers online.

I am in Utah! I am in Riverton. As for which thread we should be on, I've seen Utah categorized as Northwest, Mountain West, Southwest, and even Midwestern ( I took offense to that last one, LOL).

You should see the looks on people's faces when I say that not only do I plan to cloth diaper my baby, but that I actually SELL them and have been for 2 1/2 years. LOL They always suggest that I am in the wrong business and that no one uses CD anymore, or they say "Eeew, I would never cloth diaper!" I am always tempted to ask what they do for a living, then say something like, "Eeew! I would never do that. Why don't you do something useful with your life?" LOL

It also amazes me how little babywearing I see here. I even offered to teach a class on sling sewing for church and they have not taken me up on it. There are 15 pregnant women that I know of in my church, most already have at least one kid, and not one sling r MT in sight!

deska23

I know where you are coming from! I dont understand about not babywearing! I have loved my moby for the last baby! It has been a life saver now that I have three kids. I also do not understand the older generation thinking that we are nuts for cloth diapering our children! I mean that is all my grandmother did and still it is gross? :-)

I'm in Beaver so far from everyone else! I've only met one mom here that exclusively breastfed and extended BFs. Most other parents around here formula feeds so cloth diapering and slinging is definitely not the norm! LOL

I Love to BF (Still bfing my almost 3 year old (Well dry nursing as I lost my milk 4 months into my pregnancy))
Baby wearing, Co sleeping, AP, and now attempting to CD my 6th child. I was kind of looked at as an odd ball in my neighborhood because I also Home birth and prefer Natural healing. I know of only two other Mamas that Home birth in my neighborhood. Thankfully the Natural healing bug is catching on and more are going that route! I don't know anyone here that CD.. Anybody have prefolds not in use?

My neighbor (in Provo) is collecting prefolds and wipes for an orphanage in Haiti. She'll be taking the donation down in January. Gently used or new will be great. You can also donate cash that we'll pool together for a bulk purchase of new diaps from the diaper store in Draper ($16.80/dozen if we buy 7 or more dozen).

I am in Spanish Fork Too!!! Although I can't claim to be a cd'ing mama yet. I am still tippy toeing with the idea. I only have 5 diapers, so not enough for even one full day. I am looking seriously at investing in coolababy diapers, I have seen a lot of good reviews about them and they seem to be the cheapest way to get started.

I would love to meet other people irl that are cd'ing so I can learn first hand how to actually make this happen.

Anyone up for a get-together? Several of you have mentioned wanting to see a bunch of cloth diapers in person. I'd be happy to host a get-together for anyone who wants to talk to other CD moms and see a bunch of types of cloth diapers all in one place. I am in the South Valley area (Riverton, off of 12600 South and Bangerter) so I am centrally located for Salt Lake County and Utah County moms. My place is pretty bare bones, but it is big enough to hold a group of us.

Hey I checked out this thread again to see if I could come across anyone with a snap press - one of my HH trainers needs a repair :(

Anywho...if you guys are getting together I would love to come if I can. I have 2 littles. My 2 year old is daytime trained but my 9 month old is in prefolds and covers. I have a few other cd'ing friends who may want to come as well. If we're doing a CD show I have some FBs I could bring.

If you guys pick a date/time please PM me. I check my PMs here daily but I don't always check threads. Thanks!

I'll look for a good date and time then.

I sell Fuzzi Bunz, Happy Heiny's, Kissaluvs, Thirsties, Wahmies, Drybees, BumGenius, Bummis, Snappis, various prefolds, and my own brands (Little for Now, Sheepish Grins, Comfy Cloth Pads) so I can do quite the show and tell!

I also have samples of some brands I don't sell (Knickernappies, Rocky Mountain Diapers, Mother's Touch, a few others) so you can see those too.

I do have 2 snap presses as well, so, if you have a simple repair you are welcome to use it.

I'm in Taylor (not Taylorsville) which is in West Weber County. :) Everyone mixes the two cities up. It's really funny when we have people call us because they can't find our address anywhere and it's because they are 45 min. away in Taylorsville.:giggle: Probably because we don't even have our own gas station, we're to small. Nobody that hasn't been here has ever heard of it.

I too would love to see some more diapers in person. I am the only person I know who is trying this. But I've only been going for two weeks. I have just enough diapers to get through one day and then I wash at night. I would really like to be able to talk to people in person about all of this.

We will be meeting at my house unless there is a blizzard or something. PM for an address so I can keep count of who is coming. Kids are welcome, as are spouses. I am in Riverton, off of Bangerter and 12600 South. Super easy to get here from I-15 but I am about 4 miles west of I-15. We are 45 miles from my sister's place in Ogden and MapQuest says 35 miles to BYU, if that helps anyone with planning.

Yes, I did just get a shipment from Bummis so I have plenty of liners. I think I have about a dozen of the larges and 9 smalls. Also got the Bamboozles. Those things are so soft I want to embroider a face on one and tell my kid it is a stuffed animal!

Just a reminder that we are getting together on Saturday at 2 PM at my house in Riverton. Let me know if you need directions. It is looking like a small group right now, so there'll be plenty of diaper hugging to go around. What! Like you don't hug some of those squishy, fluff diapers? My new huggable is the box of Drybees Gone Natural bamboo diapers I got last week. This diaper is so soft I want to put eyes on it and tell Eva it is a stuffed animal. Lisa (Drybees owner) is even using Eva's picture in her graphics. Gotta exploit her cuteness while I can. LOL! You can see a pic of her in the new dipe on my site, but I don't have the new Drybees graphic up yet.

I could do the 14th. Does that afternoon work for everyone?

I have new stuff for show and tell, I just got in Tiny Tush one size, TT covers, Happy Heiny's OS with snaps (including cool prints), and Rocky Mountain Diapers one size.

I do have one favor to ask, though. Can we limit the discussions of where else you can buy diapers? I don't expect anyone who comes to buy from me, and clearly there is plenty of useful discussion about great diaper finds here on DS. But, after 3 years of putting every cent I have and all of my time into building this business, it is not a lot of fun for me to sit and listen to all of the other places one can buy diapers.

What about those of us who also sell diapers though? I do. I don't mind if other people talk about buying other diapers but it would be a little weird to only talk about one person's diapers and not be able to talk about anyone else's, even though I know it's sometimes awkward listening to people talk about it!

I have no problem with you bringing diapers for show and tell, but I am not comfortable with anyone else conducting business in my house. Fair enough?

My mother's doctor has told her that due to her extremely fragile lungs, catching a cold that might turn into pnuemonia could kill her. So, it seems unwise to have groups of people meet at my house, just in case. I will still happily meet with people one-on-one since my part of the house is separate, but I am going to have to cancel the diaper party idea.

I am in Bountiful and new to cloth diapers and to this website. I went a little crazy when I first started cloth diapers a few weeks ago and now I have too many that don't fit well. I would like to sell them so I can afford to get some more that fit better. How do you sell diapers on this site?

I'm in Clinton. Pretty new to CDing, but, from what I've seen they sell fast on KSL, then you wouldn't have to worry about shipping:) What do you have?

Hey Mamas- I'm in Salt Lake- close to Sugarhouse. Haha, it's kinda nice to hear what some mamas here are saying, makes me feel A LOT better. I felt like the odd one out fighting for a natural Hyno-birth and no seperation to nursery at St. Mark's (very detailed birth/postpartum plan+ a very fiesty me, midwife, doula, and DH getting folks to let nature do its thing and leave me in peace= hilarity ensuing) :sissyfight:, insisting on BFing past a year, babywearing everywhere (as does DH) in Mexican rebozos, explaining to folks that I co-sleep (and it's not some dirty secret), running a Vegan/Veg daycare, and now CDing. I mean, hey, I don't mind how other folks live if they aren't hurting anyone, but sheeesh, I get some interesting unsolicited commentary from folks here (hehe I 'spose its what I get for a bumper sticker that says "Coexist" ;) So thanks mamas..I feel better knowing you are here too. :) And even if CDing is all we share in common- its all good, it's nice to know you are here! :goodvibes:

I'm in Provo. Baby #4 due in February and haven't CDed since #1, 8 years ago, and used a diaper service. Things are much different now. I'd really like to see some CDing in action or at least see some products in person. I maybe have to make a trip to Quilted Bear and see what they have there. Anyone else know of places I can see different styles? I'm heavily leaning toward Thirsties Duo Wraps with prefolds.

I am in Riverton, near Draper/South Jordan area. I carry the Duo Wraps and both Indian and Chinese prefolds. My customers love the Duo Wraps. I have sold tons of these and have only heard good things so far.

I also have Gro Baby, Happy Heiny's, Wahmies, Drybees, Rumparooz, Kissaluvs, Tiny Tush, Imse Vimse, as well as my own brand. I am happy to sit down with you and show you what is available now. I also have Moby Wraps, several brands of detergent, and other items.

You can email me or call me 801-231-5024.

Hi, I'm in Orem and I'm fairly new to CD. I haven't cloth diapered for a good 3 or so months (since I got pregnant with baby #2 and got really sick)... I'm trying to get back into it, but it seems like #1 has grown out of all the CD I made... need to build up my stash again...

Hey all--I'm new and pregnant with #2..and due in 9 weeks. My husband is NOT a fan of CD'ing so we're doing a combo of disposables for when HE'S in charge (while I'm at work) and CD's for me--I'm so totally lost as to what kind to get...I feel a little overwhelmed...yowsers all the kinds! EEEEEK!!!!

I am always happy to show different brands and styles if you want to come by for an appointment.

You are more likely to convert your husband over time if you have a really easy to use diaper. Thirsties Duo Diapers or any of the one size pocket diapers are easy to use and offer good value. Since you are only using cloth part time, you can start with a smaller stash. A Try Me package could be good for you too, such as the one I have with 3 different brands of one size diapers so you can try what them and see what you like.

I am in St. George - currently expecting baby #5 - who is due around the beginning of March.
I have cloth diapered since my second child was 5 mos old -that was 8 years ago! It has been almost 5 years though since I have had a new LO.
I run a natural parenting support group that meets weekly at a local park. Many moms cloth diaper and it is always a great time to chat and take a look at different diapering options. Feel free to PM me if you want details.

So what's the difference with pocket vs all in ones?? Do you have to have a cover for the pocket (cause I KNOW that won't go over well)

littlefornow
02-12-2010, 10:21 AM
An all in one has all the pieces sewn together. So, it is the most like a disposable. There are no pieces to find in the wash. No pocket to stuff. Very convenient. However, some brands of all in ones are hard to clean and my little girl is a heavy wetter so I have to add a doubler to almost all of them. BumGenius organics and Dream Eze are both easy to clean and pretty absorbent.

A pocket diaper has an opening, usually in the back, where you can add absorbent inserts. Most come with 1-2 inserts. The nice thing about pockets is that you can add absorbency as needed. True pocket diapers do not need a cover. Some people make pocket fitted diapers. Those are made of absorbent materials and do need a cover. Most one size diapers are pocket diapers. So, BumGenius, Tiny Tush, Wahmies, and Happy Heinys are popular brands of pocket one size diapers.

One size diapers are meant to fit from about 8 or 10 pounds to 35 pounds. BumGenius, Happy Heiny's, Tiny Tush and Wahmies are popular one size pocket diapers. We have had the best fit from the Tiny Tush over the longest period. Pregnancy and Mothering magazines have a 10% off coupon for 24 BumGenius this month.
