We use AR formula on her- do you think that could be why she's always having bowel problems b/c that stuff is thicker? She's got a doc appointment on the 25th, but just thought some other mamas might be able to clue me in before then. thanks!

Are you giving her solids? My DS started solids about 2 weeks ago and his pooping changed so much we have gone back to BF only. My guy goes every morning like clock-work. But got constp. and stopped gong most of the time. When he does go he seems to struggle.

I was just wondering if that could be what is causing it?

DD had major issues with constipation. Well, both of them actually. We give ydd 1 -1 1/2 tsp. milk of magnesia to help her. Yes, we have tried everything under the sun, and nothing works. My older dd takes miralax as needed, but when she was smaller she took it everyday.

I don't know how you feel about chiropractic, but we have a family friend who is a chiropractor and he checked my son b/c he was having reflux problems. He then asked me if he was having issues with constipation b/c of where his T-spine was out at, and we had been having issues with constipation for a few months. After one adjustment (very gentle, didn't bother my son at all), we have had no issues with constipation or reflux. I also recommend Good Start Natural Cultures formula, I use it to supplement my BFing, it has worked much better for us than the previous kind we were using (Similac).

I give DD 1oz of prune juice almost every day b/c she is so frequently sonstipated. her first ped said the sugar would loosen her up. But DS never had this issue, so I'm wondering what the real problem is, and not just how to fix it, KWIM? She is on zantac for acid reflux, but has been having issues w/ constipation ever since I had to stop BF her @ 2wks due to her being hospitalized (fever)

I used to give dd some apple juice to help her if her stools got too hard when she was younger, just don't give too much or it can cause diarrhea

ok dont flame me this is a remady from my aunt that i tried and it worked so well. I felt bad giving it to him but it really worked and no adverse reactions. She said she gave it to her son everyday cause he was so constapated and he went about 10 to 20 minutes like clockwork though i dont recommend it.

i call it the baby latte

2 ounces of formula and 2 ounces of coffee and sugar to taste. (I used about 2 teaspoons.)

I worked really well.

also i read the oatmeal baby food in the bottle works cause of the fiber though once again not an everyday thing if baby is too young for solids

We also see the Chiro and it helped the one time we had problems early around 3 mo. DS loves it...doesn't hurt him at all. They lay baby on mom's front or back to do adjustment.

Hm, true constipation is the rabbit like hard pellets -- is she truly constipated, or just having a hard time going? Takes little ones quite awhile to learn to really work all the systems at the same time to push that poop out. :giggle:

I read in the baby care book we got at the hospital about using sugar in the bottle. We did it for DS a few times worked great! I only used an 1/8-1/4 tsp sugar in the bottle he went 3-4 hrs later. Like was said I wouldn't do it al the time, and I don't think you need the coffee, IMO. HTH :goodvibes:
