Thought I would start a new thread for us DC, Northern VA, Suburban Maryland moms.
I live in Alexandria and work in DC, and have been CDing for 2+ years now. We started when DS was four weeks old, and he's now 27 months. I WOH (well, duh, I just said that) and have to use disposable at "school" but he's in cloth mornings, evenings, overnight, and weekends. Now that he's a big kid, and we don't have to change him every other minute, I only do about one load of laundry/week.
We had a diaper service for the first four months, http://www.moderndiaperservice.com/. It was great, but once DH and I went back to work, and we started daycare full time, it was better for us to do our own laundry. For the next kid, we'll do cloth from the beginning using the stash we have built up, but the service was a nice way to ease into it.
We use bumGenius 1.0's for daytime, stuffed with one cottonbabies onesize and one Little Lambs hemp (terrible diapers, but I love the hemp inserts.) At night, we use PT Fuzzi Bunz with one cottonbabies onesize and THREE joey bunz hemp inserts. Kid has quite the bubble butt. And we use flushable liners. We wash, line dry, and reuse the ones that were peed on, and flush the others. It got DH on board, so that's all that counts, right?
That's our life in cloth.

Hey, gals, just wanted to let you know there's a Yahoogroup for DC area CD families. We share tips, questions, FSOT requests, and sometimes get together in person. If you want to join, search for DCCDers at yahoogroups (not allowed to post links yet!).
Thanks!

Wow - never thought about washing and reusing flushables - I would have thought they'd disintegrate. Thanks for the tip! We don't use them much but maybe we will now! :)

I'm in Silver Spring MD. Only use 1 diaper a day since Owen decided to potty train himself the day after X-mas and hasn't had a nap accident for a while now. I'm really starting to get cloth withdrawal at this point!!
We're pregnant with another little boy due mid May so I will get to start CDing full time again soon.
Also part of the DCCDers yahoo group (thanks Jen!) and highly recommend it to anyone in the area!!

Anyone interested in a meetup in the next few weeks?
I would even volunteer my house (Arlington) if it was central for folks.
Or we could do Tyson's perhaps... thoughts?

Hi all!
I'm in Alexandria and have been CDing DD Olivia for 6 1/2 mths. I would be interested if someone organizes a meetup. I still can't snappi our new GM brown edge PFs and I just know someone more experienced would be able to help! I use Gdiapers with PFs (and their inserts for nighttime), a few different fitted from FSOT and I am about to try wool covers for overnight for the 2nd time (wicking was my experience the 1st go around).
Cheers!

Hello! My baby boy is due April 30 (eek, it's getting close!), and I just got all my diapers in the mail today! I'm so excited to get started! I'll check out the DCCD group, and I'd like to get together sometime too... I live in DC, so anywhere inside the beltway works for me.

We're in Reston. I've been CDing for almost a year now (wow), but I need a serious prefold tutorial. I got some GMD brown edge pfs, and I've been too intimidated to use them. We briefly attempted pfs a few months ago, but I think they were too long-- I never knew what to do with the extra length!
ETA: Ack! This is actually poptart! I'm on my sister's computer

I'd love to meet up. I'm in DC and have only been CDing for a few months. I'm slowly building up my stash and trying to figure out what my favs are. I could use a PF tutorial, too. I just ventured into the world of the snappi, which I love, but like PP said, I can't figure out what to do with the extra length of two of my prefolds. They do get used a lot to keep my sheets breast milk free, since we co-sleep, so they're not being neglected.
I'm also on DCCDers (go Jen!) and it's a great group of very helpful CDing parents. I've learned tons being on there.

Checking in. It's been awhile and I've sworn off DSers because I get tempted too easily. However, we have #2 on the way this fall and I've been adding some newborn and preemie prefolds to the stash, as well as small covers and FBs. And I just bought 25 Joey Bunz to go with the 20 JBs we already have. Seriously, what was I thinking? But DS is 2.5yrs and not close to PTing, so I think he's going to be in diapers for awhile (and overnights for a bit longer than that.) I also just spent $165 at Snap-EZ on trainers and larger diapers. I must be stopped!!

It's so nice to see all the local mamas who are CDing.
I have nothing new to say/report. Have not purchased anything since my last post. Considering Kissaluv contours for #2, but restraining myself at the moment. Half my stash is out for repairs. I'm really afraid of what it will look like when I have the entire (BGOS and PT FBs, oh and some Snap-EZ) in front of me. I will probably get in trouble and have to sell it off.

I have news, we are going to be here until at least mid-October now instead of mid-August, they already offered dh an extension. And they are saying they might keep extending him as long as his home station will allow...:bliss:
And tomorrow we are moving to another apartment that is right behind the Fashion Center Mall. I am going to pick up the keys & check it out as soon as baby wakes up from her nap.:yay:
