this is the third time we have started feeding her solids....at first she didn't tolerate any of the solids..(it gave her cramps and gas)..so we stopped for a while....the second time around, she tolerated fruit and veggies but not the cereal.....we slowed down again and everything was fine (besides the very large quantity of formula she had to have everyday)
this time, she seems to be tolerating everything we have given her but everytime we start solids, she stops sleeping throught the night and needs night time feedings again.

whats the problem?
she is 6 months by the way. she is clearly ready for solids. she tries to grab all we eat and has way too much formula if she doesn't eat solids.

any suggestions? did this happen to anyone? tell me she is going to sleep soon

Boy, I'd be concerned about potential intolerances if she's suddenly waking in the night and you're positive it isn't a coincidence. My daughter has many allergies/intolerances and poor sleep is usually the first indicator of a fail for us, followed by general misery and mucousy poop.

I am coming at things from an angle with much experience of that type, however, so maybe that's why I'm concerned.

Thats awful! I assume you've talked to your pediatrician?
Sounds like some kind of indigestion. Even w/ just rice cereal?!
We started my son on rice cereal at 6 months b/c is was no longer sleeping through the night then slowly introduced other foods.

yep...even rice cereal...I even tried changing brands, going organic....She isn't cranky and everything seems normal this time except she starts to wake up and have night feedings again everytime I introduce solids...

this is my fourth child and this never happened before.

this time, veggies and fruit are tolerated....I'm scared to try cereal but I guess she will need the extra iron at some point

by the way...sorry for my poor english...french speaking mama from quebec here!!

thank you for your question! my son is 6 months also, and has been on solids for weeks....but the last two times he's had to poop he was so constipated that he cried the whole time he was pooping, and there was blood on it...it was AWFUL! After the first time Doc thought it could be from the iron in the rice cereal so i cut that out, but it still happened the second time, So I'm just not going to give solids for awhile i guess & then start to introduce them again slowly. Maybe just give once, then wait for a poop before giving again? Any other suggestions? It makes me feel better knowing that someone else's baby is having a hard time too, not just us!

Just wanted to chime in and say that skipping the baby cereals is OK too. If your babe is eating other solids OK, then skip the baby cereal. Your baby can get iron from their formula or breastmilk. :goodvibes:
