I'm fairly new to the DS forum in general and I just found the Canadian section tonight! I live in Ontario, between Toronto and Ottawa. I have one son who's 8 months old now and we have been CD'ing since he was 1 month old.
What type of laundry powder is everyone using? I find most of the lists posted on the web a bit confusing because they are mostly US brands and not all are sold here. I'm currently using Allen's that I ordered from a website in BC. Does anyone know of good Canadian sites that sell different options for laundry? The site that I purchased my Allen's from is temporarily closed. Any tips on buying from within Canada are appreciated!

:welcome: mama!
This Local forum is new at DS so there's a lot of Canada Diaper Chit-Chat on the Canada FSOT board too! There was a pretty long thread about which detergents Canadian mamas have been using there, here's the link....

I like Nellie's Laundry Soda and found a lady nearby who sells it from her home which isn't much help, I suppose. I know that some places in Ontario carry Country Save, but no where near me :(

I use Nature Clean liquid detergent... you can buy it at Strictly Bulk, and Loblaws here in Toronto. Not sure where you'd find it in your neck of the woods, though!

I also buy nature clean from the grocery store (Oakville). I've seen it at most Dominion and Longo's stores.

www.morethanclothdiapers.com has Soap nuts too, That's turned out to be perfect for us, I went through a long and hard trial trying to find a good laundry detegent for our water and once I tried soap nuts, I haven't looked back.

I just started using Down East detergent, which was recommended to me by a local woman who owns a cloth diapering store. I've looked all over the place for other detergents that are "approved", but it's hard here in small-town Nova Scotia.

So I tried nature clean today and there were a lot of suds after the wash! I didn't even put half the cup but it was way too much. Anyone have suggestions on a good amount to use.

We tried Charlie's but my daughter had a bad reaction to it so we sold the rest of the bag on Kijiji.
We're using Sunlight Sensitive. I believe it has optical brighteners but none of the other no-no's so would get 4 out of 5 stars on most detergent ranking sites and is easy to find.
ETA: My husband and I are also from small town between Toronto and Ottawa (Picton) but are currently in Burlington.

I make my own :) Everything can be found at Walmart except the simple green which I found at Canadian tire. It's from Diaper Sewing Divas:
Diva Detergent
1 55 oz. box Arm & Hammer Washing Soda
1/2 cup Mule Team Borax
2 Cups Oxygen Cleaner (anything but Oxiclean brand)
1/2 cup Simple Green
1/2 cup Water Softening Powder (Calgon)
ETA: I use 1 scoop (the one that comes with the Oxygen cleaner) for diapers and 2 for regular laundry

Any allergic reaction from the Diva soap?
DD has rather sensitive skin...

No I haven't had any problems other than if I don't use fabric softener with our regular cloths, things get extra "crunchy"
I did have problems with plain ol' Tide and rashes though :(

sorry for the quick hijack..
3LittleC's - how many loads do you get from this much detergent? Is it all powder form? Does it dissolve well? What kind of water do you have?

Not sure what kind of water we have, however I've heard it works well differant types...
Everything in the recipe is powder except the simple green which is liquid. If you mix it really well though the whole thing stays just powder. It does get warm when you mix it - so you have to wear gloves.
I made it about a month ago, doubled the batch and have hardly made a dent. I do about 7 loads/week plus 3 diaper loads.
I do find that when I wash in cold, it doesn't disolve well so I usually disolve the 2 scoopfuls in a little cup of hot water and then add that to the washer.
ETA: It does clean my clothes REALLY well and I'm going to continue making it and not go back to commercial soap.
