How old was your LO before you left the house and went out to run errands, went to family/ friends homes, and went out in public??

I can't remember with DD how old she was when i started going out to do things and over to ppls houses.. but i do think it was at least 2 months or so..

Anyways long story short. my mother thinks i'm going to parade my LO to a graduation party when he's about a week or so old. I was wondering how long everyone waits to go out and about..

I think it was at least 4 weeks, but I had a c-section so that was mostly why. But also, it was flu season so I kept a low profile even after I healed.

I would go if you WANT to and just wear you LO. I went to a birthday party with TONS of kids and in my eyes germs, with my 3 week old, and just put her in my wrap and everyone kept hands off! lol but thats me :)

I've always taken my newborns out within a day or two of being home.

I had two flu season babies and kept them pretty close to home for the first few weeks. My oldest I had just started taking him out more at 4-5 weeks when I broke my leg and ended up stuck at home for 4 months, unable to walk. DS2 I remember taking to the mall (tucked in the sling) at 2 weeks so DS1 could play at the playground.

once to walmart at 5 days, Easter was 7 days; so big church and family thing that day. Pretty much out and about after that. But its totally up to you and how you feel; I would think if you said you weren't up to it people would understand.

DS#1 was 2+ months other than a funeral we had to go to.

DS#2 was 3 days. We went out to a kayaking contest and then hiking, then... well wherever we wanted.

at 2 days old we took him to Target to just get some things and get out of the house (get practice going out LOL). I think I was taking neighborhood walks w/in a few days and then we went to church and stuff at about 3 weeks or so?

They were both relatively "new" when we started going out. We stayed home a little longer with Logan because he was a preemie. He was probably 2 weeks old when we started running normal errands with him. We pretty much took Evan out right after he was born. We left the hospital 24 hours after he was born and went to the grandparent's house right away and were making our regular trip to Target within days.

haven't read all of the posts, but we were out right away.

Why?

Well, we had to take the baby to the pedi on day 3 of being home...the most germ infested place you can possibly go. If you can do that, you can go anywhere.

He was three days old and we went to a birthday dinner at a restaurant. The wonders of a wrap... no one can touch their faces, or their little hands with their grubby fingers! But if you're not up to it or don't want to go, don't let anyone bully you into it!

It was 3 days for us, we had to go bail his daddy out of jail. LOL its not as bad as it sounds though, I forgot to renew the sticker on my license plate and he got pulled over while driving his mom home. Ends up his driver's license was suspended for some ticket and they took him in.

We always get babies one week photos done at Walmart. so usually wait until one week to go out, however I went out on day 6 for an evening with some girls with this baby. I just don't let people touch her (unless its someone I know and give permission)

i took my son to a baby shower at church that was canceled b/c i went in to labor--age 4 weeks. i felt i had to go...then i didnt go back to church until he was 6 months old...everyone there prayed for him and of course wanted to hold him and love on him. by six months they could kiss him all they wanted too.

i did errands/shopping with him after 6 weeks, but always wore him.

with my daughter it was the same, maybe she was out a little earlier, because by then i had her bro to deal with. now it is six months and we will start going back to church.

this may seem extreme, but my kids are incredibly cute and hard to resist.
plus, i love this nesting period.

With DS, I went to my principal's retirement reception with him when he was about a week old. He stayed wrapped in his blanket, hat on, socks on his hands. I think a couple of people held him, but they only touched the blanket.

With DD, we went out to Red Lobster the day she came home (3 days old). She came home on DS's birthday, so we went out to celebrate!

Life doesn't stop when you have a newborn! :lostit:

We were out & about shopping within days of her birth. She was 6d old when IKEA opened and we went. She was 10d when we went to an awards dinner.

If I had to stay home w/a squalling infant, I would hav ebeen depressed for sure!

Both of my girls were jaundiced, so they had doctor's appointments and blood draws the day after we came home. I did keep a low profile other than doctor's appointments with DD#1 as she was 5 weeks early. With DD#2 we just jumped back into life.

If you are up to going put your LO in a sling like a pp stated so no one will be touching them. I did this with my last couple kids ~ works great!

As for how long we waited before visiting ~ my oldest was only a couple weeks (went shopping), 2nd was born between holidays so he was about 3 wks at Christmas.

My 2 girls it was only 1-2 wks before we were out (summer babies) and my 7 mos old.......he was born on 6-23 and on July 4th we were at my SIL's house.

Since my last 2 babes were homebirths they were out sooner then I stated too since we had to go see our Dr between 10-14 days for their check-ups also.

it really all depends on your comfort level too.

Yes even my preemies went everywhere with us. I was just more careful that people kept their distance and didn’t touch them.

4 days old to get some supplies at BabiesR Us.
At 5 days old we went back to the hospital to see the LC.
6 days - mall to but Mommy some nursing shirts.
7 days old to see the Easter Bunny.
8 days old - Easter w/my family.

Wow, no wonder I was so tired!

With my first daughter I was out and about within a day or two. With my second I had to go out grocery shopping as she was an early surprise and there was NOTHING in the house. I learned my lesson though because she was in the picu at 5 weeks old due to rsv. With dd#3, she's a month old and we've yet to really do much. I do only what I HAVE to. No extraneous shopping or leaving the house. Of course being single I have grocery shopping, errands, etc but I have her in the sling the entire time, I only get what I need and get out and there's no getting out just to be "out." I'm VERY careful about purell and handwashing and people coming close to her.

The day after he came home from the hospital we went to the pediatricians. And then a few days later to the midwives' to get my staples out.

The first shopping trip was probably at a little more then a week old. I highly recommend a sling if you're worried about people touching the baby.

He's 6 weeks old and I still haven't taken him out by myself...

This was me exactly. We went to a big convention (the green festival) at 1 1/2 weeks old. DS was sleeping in his sling most of the time.

Within days.
#1 was the day after we came home from the hosp.
#2 was the same, but I had to go back to school to present my medical research Paper....

I'm a busy body and have to get out.
I don't let people touch my kids, so that's not a problem.
