What are they?
Do you have one for pee and another for poo? or do you use the same one for both?
TIA for taking a moment to respond!

I pssss for peeing and grunt for poops, but I'm pretty sure that he recognizes plain "go wee wee" and "go poopy" too.

This forum is so freaking dead! I know that there are a lot more EC'ng mamas out there!
... and we caught our first two pees today! Would have been 3 but I took her pf off before I had the potty ready and by the time I got it, she had gone. :giggle2:

I use the sign and ask if she needs to go potty, then I take her. But I cue her with pssst pssst pssst for both pee and poo.

we just do "pssss" for both. Try to keep it simple, plus I don't feel so silly making that noise when we're out whereas with grunting...:giggle: But this does bring me to my next question that i was actually going to post- what is the sign for potty? We never did it with DS, and I think it really would have helped, so I want to start doing it with DD, but i have NO idea what it is!

we use the sign that actually means "toilet" but it's easy - place your thumb between your index and middle finger while making a fist and shake your hand from side to side...does that make sense?
we also use "wsss" to cue for pee and poo.

We didn't know that there was a sign for toilet (or rather, it wasn't in the "babysigns" book that we had) so we just made up our own. It was one fist on top of the other, like you hold a baseball bat (with absolutely no rationale for why we chose it). It has been transformed into clapping by DS, and while it can be confusing at times (esp for other people), it comes in handy when he's out of sight, like in the car seat (rear facing still) because we can hear him signal that he has to go. We're working on getting him to say "potty" and I know he can, because he always says "I did it!" when he goes (if he can say that, he can say potty).

For us the cue word never seemed to make any difference, when we held her is she had to go she would. When we did though we said peeing in a drawn out sing song voice.

I've wondered if it made a difference as long as there's continuity...
I'd just feel like a moron grunting. (No offense to those who do it. It's just my own weird hang-up.) We're more or less just using regular words like pee pee and potty but we're also brand new at this so I'm definitely not an authority on what works and what doesn't; :giggle2: thus, the reason for this thread!
Thanks to all who've responded! Keep 'em coming!

psss and grunt grunt grunt... but now that she's starting to talk we can ask if she wants a diaper or potty and she'll say "Daihpah" or "Poh!" And if we suspect a BM, we ask if she has poo poo and if so, she'll reply with "Poopoo."

Hi Ladies!!!! My DD is 15mo, and I'm just now learning about ECing, gosh I wish I had know sooners!!!! oooh well, I can always start freash with #2 when ever he'she comes along! BUT Braleynn has decided that she wants to use the big potty all of a sudden, sooooo I guess you can say we are potty learning, but since she is PLing at such a super young age, I'm relying BIG TIME on alot of ECIng knowledge. It's kinda like we are starting ECing late, and PLing early, all at the same time!
Sooo my reply: Braelynn does say "I need tee-tee!" or "I need poo-poo" when she needs to go, but she signs "potty or toilet" when she tells me. I started signing with her from day one, but she just started really signing everything back to me right before she was a year old.

I'm new to this myself, but what came naturally to me is to use "pssssss" for pee and "pffffffff" for poo.

I use psssss for pee and pooooooop for well, poop. :giggle: She's only 4 months old & doesn't know the difference but I guess it'll come in handy one day. I tried grunting too & thought it would be too weird when we're not home. I also say "do you want to sit on the potty?" as I'm taking her dipe off. I think knowing that I'm getting her to the potty helps her hold it a little longer b/c I haven't gotten peed on since I started saying that. I'm going to start signing as soon as she can sit unassisted.

I sign "toilet" and go psssss for both. I've grunted a few times- but if she has to poop she poops and if she doesn't she doesn't, so I don't really need a cue word for that one and I do feel kind of stupid grunting at her hehehe.
Mistake I learned about the hard way- I signed "toilet" and asked DD if she had to go as I was carrying her to the toilet. She proceeded to pee all over me. Hey... I had cued her! Oops.
