Mine is 20 months old and still not potty trained, he is familar and will sit but does nothing. What is the difference between potty training and EC? How old the LO is?

To me, Potty training has a goal of your child toileting independently, every time.
EC has a goal of catching the next pee, and being more in tune with your baby.
But I am no expert. :)

Conventional potty training how I understand it (although I have never done it) is about training your child to start using a toilet or potty for their elimination, usually after they have been diaper trained for many months and have lost some awareness of their elimination. It is goal focused.
EC, although it is sometimes called infant potty training, is not really a form of training. It is a process best started from birth or soon after, although it can be successfully started later on with modified methods. It involves observing one's baby's signs and signals, providing cue sounds and elimination-place associations, and can be done with or without any diaper use. Infants can communicate the need to eliminate well before they can take themselves independently to the toilet, and EC is the practice of responding to that need whenever possible and assisting the infant to eliminate in an appropriate receptacle until such time that they can go independently. With EC the infant never loses the awareness of their elimination that they have from birth and practices using their muscles early on so they develop continence sooner than non-EC'd babies. EC can be practiced to varying degrees -- part-time, occasional or full-time -- they key is the communication between you and your baby.
Hope this helps!

Also, in potty training, you have to teach your kiddo to "hold it" until you get them to a potty. With EC, you are encouraging them to relax and let it go on a potty. Different skills really.

These views are similar to what I've read too. Basically, there is no guarantee that your little one will be potty trained/learned earlier with the use of EC, it's just a great way to be even more in tune with your baby. Like using baby sign language - no guarantee that they will talk sooner, but it sure beats not having a clue as to what's running through their mind before words start spouting out! :goodvibes:
