So im thinking about taking the plunge!

My DS is 5 months and im considering joining the EC party. This is a real jump as were not even into cloth yet yikes! so i was wondering what would be most helpful in getting started this was my original investment list :

2 /3 BG 3.0s (for bedtime/nap)
?# of fitteds (either kissaluvs or BG)
?# of leggings

i prefer to use the big potty as i will be moving in with my parents the first of the month and i will have my own bathroom and it will be much easier to clean and such

Any tips/ advice is more then welcome but please keep in mind i am a STM so my budget is minimal TYIA

Hi,

I'm new to the EC world too but wanted to at least reply to your thread (even though I probably won't be much help!).

My little one just turned 7 months and we've been trying EC for a few weeks - going very well I must say!

Anyway, it depends on how often you want to do laundry. I'm a prefolds (fitteds at night) and wool gal so my stash is a little different than what you're looking at but for me I find that I go through probably 6-8 prefolds on a "bad" day - like when my older two children need my attention every minute so we have "misses" all day. Then I use one of my fitteds at night. I've got a little over a dozen prefolds and several fitteds so I find that doing laundry every other day works well for me - at night so that things can air dry overnight and be ready in the morning. I've never used babylegs but I'm thinking about getting a few pairs.

Prefolds really are great if you're looking for an economical way to go. I just love them. I was so intimidated at first but they're super simple once you just give them a try. Good luck to you! :goodvibes:

I second the prefold! They are very economical and can be used to mop up messes off the floor as well!

Wool is super economical too since you can use things that have been made from recycled sweaters. You do have to learn how to wash and lanolize but really its easy.

I would suggest that you buy prefolds and recycled wool covers and save your money to spend on training pants when your lo gets the hang of it. When you mostly have only pee misses usually training pants are a lot easier because you can pull them up and down instead of dealing with snaps or velcro.

When you are using prefolds with wraps you don't need to secure the prefold, the wrap holds it in place, when you are using a pull-on type wool cover you need to secure the prefold with a snappi (small clippy thing) if you are expecting a poop and don't want it to leak out. Once you are sure the poops make it into the potty you don't have to worry about that and can ditch the snappi.

Wool with a prefold is much better at night than anything I've used. You can even use longies with a prefold and then you don't even need to use pj pants.

I would suggest buying a baby bjorn little potty ($10) from Toys R Us because as your lo gets older he may not want to be trucked off to the bathroom in the middle of play and would rather have a miss instead....its much easier to have him used to sitting on the bblp and have it around the area where he plays.

You can make baby leg warmers really easily from women's knee socks so you don't need to buy the expensive ones. We don't actually use them at all right now. I just use trainers over loose fitting stretchy pants.

You just have to find out what works for you. Don't buy too much of anything before you figure out what works.

Take a look at my signature for EC things that I make. If you are interested I can make you some, pm me:)

Good luck, you'll love it!

Sorry for the hijacking...I picked up the bbjorn potty, but it seems so small for my lo....I am thinking about getting the one with the higher back..any comments or feedback? Thanks!!

My 2 1/2 year old loves the bblp, its kind of like squatting for him which is the best way (most comfortable) to poop.

You should do whatever works for you:)

I decided to go with the big one, because she can sit comfortably on it, with room to still grow. She looks so darn cute lounging back on the potty waiting for the pee to come. I also thought it would last her longer, seeing as she is only six months old. (up here, they are double the price!) If I had started before she could sit on her own, I may have wanted the smaller one, as it looks like it may be easier to hold them over it.
