So I'm thinking of starting to ec when the weather is a little warmer. DD is six months now, so is it going to be harder than if I started her from birth? I do try and change her every time she's wet, and I'm starting to try and watch her cues in the carrier and after nap time so I can recognize when she has to pee. We do fitteds and wool only right now, but I'm thinking of going coverless once she's more mobile and maybe diaper free in summer at home. I have a major question about poop though. She's ebf and usually only poops once every two weeks, and that's been her normal schedule since about 3 months old. I am starting to narrow down when I think she will go to "poop day" but even then sometimes I'm wrong and she goes one or two more days than I thought. And forget about the time. She's not consistent with morning, evening, or whatever, and given the fact that she doesn't poop very often it's going to be really hard to try and learn her cues. Any advice? :goodvibes:

eta: Should I just wait until she starts solids and she's more regular with bowel movements? I was going to delay solids for her though, so I was wanting to do ec before we started solids.

You can start anytime! Coverless and or naked time is the best way to tune into her cues. Good Luck!! :)

Yeah, just go for it. Try catching the after nap/morning pees first, there the easiest. The poops will come when she's ready.

Cool! Thanks for the encouragement mamas. I keep seeing these posts about how poop comes first and the "oops" are usually pees, but I was thinking in our situation it would probably be the other way around.

Instead of waiting for it to warm up, maybe Dress her in dresses and babylegs to keep her warm and make it easier to just zip off the diaper when it is time. My Lo is just over six months and I've just started. I find the pees after waking up are nice and easy to catch, but it is hit and miss for me during the day. I do much better when it is just her and I home then if we have company or even just Daddy here. If we catch a pee on the potty, I give her lots of praise, if she does nothing, it is no big deal. Diaper changes go on same as always. Now though, she gets to wear her cute diapers for so much longer when I am on the ball!
One cool thing I've noticed is I am positive she already recognizes my sign for potty. Not sure I am doing it right according to ASL, but it works for us. If I make the sign and ask if she wants to go potty and she acknowledges me with a happy face, she will pee almost as soon as I sit her down. If she ignores me, she won't go and tries to stand up off the potty.
We still haven't caught a poo, she also only goes every once in a while, about every 3rd day or so. I can't imagine going weeks without a poo, oh wouldn't that be nice!

Oh believe me, it's not that nice. Poo that has been waiting that long is super stinky and like peanut butter, and there's a LOT of it. :yuck:
