Hi, I am totally new to the board but always looking to meet local Moms.
My name is Katie and I live in Washougal. I actually grew up in N. Vancouver but moved to Portland when I was 17. My family (my DH, 23 month old son, and new bean (edd. 6-7-8)) moved back to the Washington side about a year and a half ago.
I am an avid seamstress, gardener, reader, yoga student and new to making cloth diapers. My new bean will be exclusively cloth!!
Humm...I seem to have written a personal add.
Tell me and others about yourself!

Looks like you and I are about in the same boat for for kiddos! I also have a boy and am going to have a girl! I started my stash for my new one about 6 weeks ago. It has been a slow process but I just finished 4 newborn fitteds this morning! They are so tiny and fluffy! They will probably fit for a whole 2 weeks;) Oh, well! I have several (about 10) others in process, all in a small size. I have just been having a hard time deciding on patterns/ types/ layers...etc. Diapers sure are fun to make though!
I have a zillion other projects going on too! Eee Gad! I do not know when I will get them all done. I need to make the new one a bed set. Switch out the nursery to the girly stuff and get my little man moved in to his big boy room! Good think his new furniture is coming in the next couple of weeks. I am not sure I am looking forward to the bigboy bed transition.
Thanks for the reply and Welcome. Now where are the rest of the Couve' mommies hidding.

A snap press! I am green! I want one badly and the coop on yahooo that I have been looking to purchase from is closed to new members! BooHoo! I have some half snapped diapers right now too:headscratch: . The mama that snapped them for me is in Vancouver but is not responding to my emails any more. So sad. I was just looking at sending them out to be finished. I have some supplies on the way too! some new knit and velour and unfortunetly aplix. My husband does like hook and loop diapers better. He has a hard time getting his hands in the little diapers to snap them.
I have some PUL and FOE around waiting for me to make covers. I am not too sure I am looking forward to working with either. I also need to whip up a wet bag.
What pattern are you using? I have a few. Also my problem:giggle:
Oh, my boy has decided to wake up...better go.

also, serger.. you are SO LUCKY!
I wish to high hell I had a serger
Katie - the PUL is a PiTA to work with, but its fun, and it looks good when finished. (i have only made one and its still useable :) )
I am using one pattern, I do side snaps. I made my own patterns.
But in general you can use your fitted pattern as a cover pattern and just take it in ever so slightly :D
hth.
also, if anyone ever wants to have a sewing circle

Heck yeah I am all for a sewing circle! I have a serger too! And baby I know how to use it! Lets set it up! How well does your son do with you sewing and him being second? Mine is okay for a bit depending on if he is in a new place and how many new toys he is presented with. If we do it on a weekend though my husband can watch my "little bit".

I am a horrible Catholic! I did not even consider that was Easter Sunday. Not like I am going to church  I still have not even baptised Liam(double   ). and I have a priest in the family. I do have the white linen to make his outfit though  . Maybe i'll cut it out today. Mondays are fine too. Maybe I will have to check out your shop. Liam does love an outting. Do you know if there is a fabric store other than Joann's in Vancouver? Maybe a cool quilt shop or something? I need to pick up more material for my little Ms's crib set.

Lucky bum! Geez I got to stay at home with a teething 2 year old! However, my snap press came today! Whoo Hoo! I have BIG diaper making plans tomorrow. I finished 4 diapers today and a cover and I have another 6 fitteds snapped and ready to sew. I need to make a few more covers but I might need a day to recoup from my first FOE expirence. The cover I made had 6 90 degree corners...maybe not a good choice for a first. I am going to make a Fatty Cakes cover next. I have a feeling it will be a lot more forgiving.

Okay girls! I've cut out my very first diaper and I'm giving it a whirl. If nothing else, it will give you guys a good laugh when I show you! :giggle2: I serged the internal soaker (4 layers of flannel from a recycled receiving blanket). I actually did great around the curves for my first shot! I have to say I'm rather impressed, considering how nervous I was. Now if I could just get the thread tension right so it doesn't look like crap. Katie, what settings would you use for flannel? I played and played and played and PLAYED and just couldn't get it right. And differential feed? Stitch length? I'm lost. :lostit:

Well, here's another one! I see you guys haven't posted on here in AGES! I hope you're all still around! I live in North Orchards area, near Brush Prairie. I have a 3 year old girl (4 in March) who I didn't cd, and I'm due to have a baby boy March 1st and am SO excited to cd him. I've made a few diapers and they look like crap! So I think I'm going to not bother and I'm searching for really great deals. I LOVE Pipsqueak Boutique and am a regular there and I'm planning to go to Boomba Toomba soon, maybe today unless they are closed Mondays, I'll have to look it up. I've found a few things used so far but will probably have to order some prefolds as I want them super small for in the beginning. We'll have to check out Boomba Toomba and see what they have though!

I have been on DS just about 2 months but just ventured into this area. I am dying to go to Boomba Toomba (ever since the bank commercials!) but am afraid! :) I sew too (well, I used to when I had time) but am freaked about by diapers - just don't know what sort of fabric to buy and where to get it! I would love to make some trainers for my 3 year old too. Maybe some day...

I went to Boomba Toomba, and it's so cute! I had just ordered a bunch of stuff online so didn't really have money so I didn't buy anything, but I'm going to be watching for used prefolds. She said she had just sold them out. She did have quite a few other diapers though, the most used stock I've seen. If I'd had money I probably would have gone crazy there! She also had new diapers. Lots of super cute WAHM stuff!

Maybe some day...

mom2phae- I wondered if that was you!
It was nice to meet you!
and Mom to J&J why are you afraid to come to the shop? :)
I am nice I promise. lol
to sew diapers you will need PUL (waterproof material) which you can really only find online. and absorbant materials. I use flannels and hemp. but its really a preference thing.
check out the For Sale section: Craft/hobby supplies you can get some stuff there!

I am afraid I will spend too much money but I think I may come tomorrow. My older son will be in school tomorrow so I will be fairly free! I didn't know you had used too - very dangerous for me.

unless you like Green Acre Designs, cos I have an order of them. :) hahaha

exquisitebones,
Do you ever get in cute fitteds that look like mutts or goodmama's? Also you should let me know if you get in infant prefolds. Used ones, I mean, so they are cheaper. Only if you think of it of course. I'd stop by once a week or so but your clear on the other side of town! I figure every couple weeks I can stop in maybe: )

I do get cute fitteds every now and then. I will try to remeber to let you know the next time I get a ton of prefolds. I literally had 5 dozen last week. so who knows :)
I dont generally take in GoodMamas, they are too much of a internet "niche" Item.
the general public will never pay what they cost, so I dont bring them in.

Yeah, I'm figuring out that goodmama's are WAY too expensive. I just thought it would be nice to see them in person cause they sure are cute! I'll stop by again one of these days, but yeah, if you remember to let me know when you get in used prefolds I'll be on my way! I just got an order of preemie prefolds for when he's first born and to stuff diapers with later. But I'm waiting a little while to order infant, hoping you'll get some in used!

I was in Boomba Toomba the other day - super cute! I got a few items of clothes (on sale too!) for my friend who is having a girl. Fun to shop for girl clothes sometimes as I have two boys. Also got a diaper - you said I wouldn't have to worry about spending too much on diapers. You were right - the one I found was a great price. :) Oh, and your daughter is adorable and I am so jealous you get to have her at work.

Hi sunnah, welcome. I am new too. I have a 4 yr old and 6 month old. Today I went back to work after having my baby...was gone for 11 hrs and am exhausted. We all finally eat dinner at 830...cornflakes. I don't know how I can do it all. When I got home the baby tried to nurse, but no milk flowed. I only pumped twice during the work day. Finally she went to sleep at 1000. My mom and her daddy shared babysitting. I think they only fed her about 8 oz of milk (she doesn't like the bottle) and she only had 3 wet diapers. It seems as if everyone had a hard day.
Sorry, I needed to vent.

I had my baby! Jaevin Rhys was born Feb 27 at 8:55 am, weighed 6 lbs, 12 oz and was 18" long. He's nice and healthy! Had our baby check today and he's almost at birth weight already. This time was SO much easier then the first!

It would be fun, but I'm shy... Not very good about the social thing. I hardly ever see my real life friends. I met Shayla and Dani when I went in their stores. I used to see Dani all the time actually. I've been meaning to go to Boomba Toomba again. I have some diapers to sell and need some more in mediums or OS. I pretty much sell and buy on here, but it's nice to buy in person sometimes as well.

Mom2phae, congrats on your birth! Hope things are well with you and your new little one.

I was thinking of hosting a "diaper circle"/play date at my house. I live near the ceders golf course in the duplexes. I don't have a yard but there is a grassy common area. I know people don't check this thread often but let me know if you are interested and also prefered date or day of the week. Possibly one day in july. Tell all your friends

It definitely is difficult juggling kids, work, and DH!! Feels like we hardly have any time!! I like the age difference of our kids, don't you feel like your oldest is pretty independent?
Yep, it's a ladybug hat, Carter's. It's so cute, I love girl clothes!!

She is, and she isn't. She wants me to do stuff with her constantly, but she wants to buckle her own seat belt and stuff like that on her own. But I think the age difference is pretty good. I felt bad for her as an only child. She really needed someone else. And now that her brother is older she's constantly all over him. Mostly bugging him, but she loves to play peek a boo and stuff. Some days he can't stand her and screams the second she gets in his face (it's a funny scream, like "get out of my freaking face!") But other days he seems to adore her and smiles and giggles everytime he sees her. It's pretty fun though. Other then going in public it's not too bad. I'm still having a hard time juggling the baby while trying to deal with her fits in public. Yeah, I'm the one you saw in Target the other day trying to push an overflowing cart, hold a squirmy baby, and pull a 4 yr old along while she screamed at the top of her lungs.

Hi! I'm new here. My name is Emilee, and I live in Vancouver, Washington. I have three children. A 10 year old step daughter, a 3 year old daughter and a one year old son. I cloth diapered with my 3 year old, but did not start with my one year old until a few weeks ago, due to some misconceptions about bleach and diapers. (I thought you had to soak the diapers in bleach, landlady doesnt allow bleach because of septic system, recently found out you do NOT have to soak soiled dipes in bleach).
Anyway, hi! Looking for like minded mamas, and to make more friends.

Oh yes, I wish I had a teenager to help out (though dealing with a teenager just may not be worth it).
In that horrible heat wave I couldn't even stay home, we don't have AC and live upstairs. Luckily we're moving into a house with central air so next year should be better. And thank goodness for the mall, libraries and schools with summer programs!
