DS is 3.5 months and hates his britax companion infant carseat! Its a horrible struggle getting him in and then he screams until we take him out. Is it ok to put him in a convertible carseat now? He is 14# and 25 in long. I want a Britax Boulevard but can't get one right now :broke: and I already have an Eddie Bauer convertible 22740-HPN. I wish I had bought one during the sale, but I thought I had more time with the companion :banghead: Will he be safe in a convertible?

He should be fine. Just check to see where his shoulders are compared to bottom harness slots. They need to be at or below his shoulders. My dd fit in a Marathon at 2 months and she was smaller than your ds. HTH!

Should I worry about his neck at all or is it going to be fine since he fits in the seat?

Convertible seats are designed to fit newborns on up rear-facing. As long as your child is over the weight minimum, and tall enough that the shoulder straps are in a safe position, then it'll be fine. Make sure the seat is in it's fully reclined position, and it's just fine. Some studies show that babies are safer in convertible seats than in infant bucket seats.
And we put our son in a convertible from birth on up

we put DS in his convertible at 3 months, he was 14 lbs and 26 in. He was too heavy for me to carry in his infant seat although we still use it for our "second" or "emergency" carseat if I have to go out and DH has the big boy seat!
My biggest concern would be that the seat fits properly in your car. You should make sure that it is reclined the right amount otherwise his head will probably flop. If it's reclined as far as it will go he should be fine.
Good luck!

Ditto what everyone else said. Just make sure it installed rear facing at the appropriate 45 degree angle and he will be fine. Good luck :)

GRRR my car stinks! DH can't get the seat installed! It won't recline like it should, and it flops around? :headscratch: I guess we will have to keep Brian in the seat he hates until I can get a new car(hopefully after we close on our house!) Thank you all

Take your car)and the convertible) to a carseat technician, and have them show you how to install it. It is going to be harder to install the 3 in 1 seat than the Companion, because the 3 in 1 is much bigger. Or, if you still can, see if you can exchange the 3 in 1 for something else.

He should be fine but if you can I would exchange the 3-in-1 for a different convertible seat. From what I've heard from carseat techs the 3-in-1s are horrible carseats. They are great rear-facing, okay forward-facing and crummy boosters. Kids outgrow them pretty quickly too.
I have an Evenflo Triumph Advance and I love it. It's a great seat and much less expensive than a Britax.
Always have your carseat installed or at least checked by a licensed tech! :)

I'd love the info on these studies, as this as come up in some of my conversations previously and I didn't have any resources. Thanks!
ETA: And ditto seeing a tech... there are tricks and tips for getting a great install on even the toughest seat. Though some truly are impossible.

DD went through this too, around 3-5 months she hated her seat. She didnt want to be pinned down I think. She would arch her back and twist and fight and cry when we put her in her infant seat. She is now 7 months and doesn't fuss much at all. We are waiting for our friend to deliver our new Britax :lostit: I cant wait...I never would have thought I would get excited about a carseat...Anyways keep trying the infant seat, you might just win the battle. :goodvibes:

Yes, you can. My daughter's been in a Convertible carseat since coming home from the hospital at 7lbs, 4oz. She's now probably 20lbs and still using the Graco Comfortsport Convertible. You can use rolled up receiving blankets to support the head if needed.
We got our carseat at Target for $70. The Britax are way to expensive, and remember ALL carseats on the market pass the SAME safety tests and laws.
The Graco Comfortsport (and assume all other Convert.) at a minimum are rated for 5-35 pounds. Rearfacing in your car until child is 20lbs AND 1yr old.

That is the BARE MINIMUM! Your child should rearface to the maximum allowed by your child restraint. We like to see kids RF until AT LEAST age 2!
OP, ITA...find a tech who can help you install your seat! Your LO will be fine in a properly installed convertible. My nephew has been in a convertible since birth.
