Ok....so I thought I'd find out what other "old-Time" tests you all have for predicting the baby's gender. I'd like to run a little experiment, and see which tests are most "reliable". So, if you know of one, please explain how it works and give your result. Then, when you find out the gender of your baby, report back to this thread as to whether the test was right or wrong. I plan on trying out as many of the tests as I can, so I'll likely have lots of results listed :).

So, the only one I can remember all about how it works is the one with the pencil. You take a threaded needle and stick it into the eraser of a sharpened pencil. Hold the whole thing by the thread and hold it over your wrist. Then wait. If the pencil swings back and forth across your wrist (like slitting your wrist....kind of macbre but the only way I can remember it) then its a girl. If it swings parallel to your arm, then it's a boy. FWIW this was right with my first 2, but I can't remember if I did it or not with the last one. With him I was wrong all the way around....I just knew he was a girl!

Results of pencil test: girl (was right with my first 2....can't remember on the last)
Results of hairline test: boy (doesn't hold true for my other 3 kids, though)
Chinese Gender Prediction Chart: boy (this was right for my first 2 but wrong for my last)
Wedding Band on hair: girl
Initial HB by U/S: 179!!! girl? (I *think* this would mean girl...right? This is the highest hb of any of mine, I think....)

So far, it's 3 counts for girl, 2 for boy.

actual gender: tbd

my SIL used to do the draino test....if it turned a certain color it meant boy or girl...but I can't remember how to do it....I'll have to ask her.

I thought you had to be pg for it to work.... :headscratch:

Anyone else? C'mon....someone's gotta know how the wedding ring one is supposed to work.....

I have one! Look at the hairline at the neck of your your youngest child. If the hair grows straight across it means your next one will be a boy if it grows to a point it means it will be a girl. It has been right for me with every pregnancy. So for me ds #1 hair grows straight across and #2 was a boy. DS #2 hair grows to a point and #3 was a girl. DD #3 grows straight across and had a boy and DS #4 grows straigh so had another boy. DS #5 grows to a point so we are thinking girl! We will find out in about 12 weeks! So does that make sense?

Now that's one I haven't heard before! However, it doesn't hold true with my kids....dd has the cutest little duck-tail in the back of her hair....which would mean that #3 should have been a girl....but it was a boy! LOL! I'll have to wait till my youngest wakes up to see what his hairline is....I'll post the result then!

How about the Chinese gender prediction chart? I didn't rely on it when I was pregnant in the past, but looking back on it, it was right with all three of my already-born kids.
When I looked up mine, it had me listed as a boy though. LOL

The Chinese chart worked for my first two, but not my last. It says boy for this one.....I really want a girl, so the fact that it was wrong on my last one gives me hope! I'll add the results to my post though!

These are all really cool and interesting! I don't want to sound like a party pooper or anything but with the hairline test I was thinking, if you have a miscarriage won't the results be messed up. For example, my son was first, his hair is straight across so my next baby should have been a boy right, but I had a girl next...BUT I had a miscarriage between my son and daughter. So the baby I lost could have been a boy but he was never born so I can't see if his hair grows straight across or to a point. Does that make sense? BTW my daughters hair grows straight across too, so this baby should be a boy :crying: I want another girl. A boy would be just as loved, but I really want another girl.

I too have wondered about the miscarriage and the hair line prediction but I have had 3 miscarriages and it still held true for all of mine. Now of course I know people that it did not hold true. I did look up a chinese calender and it said the opposite for every single one of my kids. This time it says boy so that probably means girl. I thought it was funny that it was wrong all 5 times. That is what makes these gender predicters fun:giggle:

My mum has always used the wedding ring on a strand of hair or a ribbon held over your belly - if it moves in a circle, a girl, pendulum, a boy. She also swears by the carrying high is a girl, low is a boy.

I carried exactly the same with all of mine and I have 2 girls and 1 boy. According to the myth, I should have all boys. LOL

We tried everything to have a girl ,lol.. we have two boys .. the gender calendar was right for my two boys , it says we are having a girl and so did the ring test ... How about heart beats ? I ve heard over 150 is a girl 150 or lower its a boy ?? But I can't remember heart beats lol.

I had heard that too about the heartbeat, but my son's was always 150-160, and he was a boy. My doc did say though that he thought it was a boy by the heart rate. But it's opposite of what everyone else says. I don't know!

ive heard of one that you take your pulse on both wrists and if your heart rate is faster on the left wrist, its a girl. if its faster on the right, its a boy.

so far for me...
left wrist 92
right wrist 88
=girl

pencil test = girl

chinese gender predictor chart = girl

ds's hairline is a MAJOR point = girl

first u/s baby's hr was 185
second time hearing it on doppler was 165

gonna have my mom do the ring test on me here in a while.

We always did the pencil test & if it moved in a circle, it was a girl & if it moved back & forth it was a boy. My friend does it on every pregnant friend & it's only been wrong once. The thing is, it shows all of your kids, not just your current pregnancy. It works, I swear! I just did it & it tells me boy, girl, girl. When I was pg with my DD, it said boy, girl. The Chinese gender chart tells me boy, but it's been wrong for me every time, so I'm thinking girl. I just did the wedding ring on a string & it said girl as well.

It's funny because I always dream about my babies & my dreams have never been wrong (we've never found out their gender before they were born). Just a few weeks ago, I dreamt that this baby is a girl. So, it looks like all signs point to girl. Now I just need to decide if I'm going to find out the gender in June or wait until November to find out. We're contemplating finding out this time as this is likely our last baby.

eta: I just looked at both of their hairlines & they're both pointy. Hmmmm....
