I am 20wks and 2 days pregnant with dd (second child) and have only put on 5lbs so far. With my ds I gained 22lbs from start to finish and lost 11lbs the day he was born (he was 7lb3oz). I don't look pregnant, I'm a tiny person to begin with (134lbs before pregnancy-139lbs now)at 5'6" but a friend of mine seems to think I should be concerned that I'm not gaining more? I feel dd kick all the time, she's very active, I eat 3 + meals a day, drink lots of healthy fluids (mostly water and milk) get plenty of sleep....but I am a SAHM to a busy 20 month old and chase around our Vizsla as well. I go out walking usually twice a day -once with ds and we stop at the park, and once with ds and pup.
Do you think I should be worried? I'm not sure what to think anymore because lately the comments I get are " you are the skinniest pregnant person ever!" or " wow...you're pregnant?!!" I have a little tiny belly...but it's very tiny and I could probably still be wearing regular pants but I'm in love with H&M Mama stuff so I'm in my maternity clothes.

i dont think u should worry people r different. this is my 3rd pregnancy and i gain like 10 pounds. babe's heartbeat was 160 last week so he or she is healthy ( i am 5ft4in- 120 at beginning of pregnancy yesterday when i weighed myself i was 129.) as long as u are eating and drinking and exercising u seem to be doing fine. i was extremely worried this time around since i didnt have " my normal symptoms of all day morning sickness like i did the two other times..) as far as weight gain "normal amounts" with dd i started the pregnancy at 150 lost 50 pounds in 6 months and gained 75 by the time she came out. with ds i started it at 175 pounds and lost some but stayed at 169 until i had him.

You might consider adding in a few healthy snacks. I think pregnancy requires an additional.... 400-500 calories per day? I don't actually remember -- it might be 300-400. The doctors do now figure that if you gain too little weight, it might not be good for your baby one way and another. That said, 5 pounds with 20 weeks left sounds okay to me!

I've added in a lot more healthy snacks to my diet because when I went in for my 16wk appointment my doctor voiced some concern for my lack of weight gain (by the I had put on .5 lbs) so I started putting homo milk in my coffee /cooking and increased my snacks and meals to more substantial on the caloric front. So since then....I've packed on the pounds which is a good start right? My OB saw me at 17 wks and wasn't concerned, she said I was really healthy, with excellent vitals and probably one of her healthiest mothers to be that she's had this year...so that put my mind at ease for sure..but I still can't help but hear people say things and make these comments and have them stick in the back of my mind...eating away at me!!!

I think as long as your baby is fine you shouldn't worry. Sounds like you are doing the best you can!!

I actually always loose weight with my pregnancies. I tend to eat alot healthier during that time as well. I am also pregnant with my 4th so chaseing after the other 3 doesn't allow for alot of calories to be saved to my body lol.

I wouldn't be worried. My midwife doesn't actually weigh at appts. She goes by how the baby is measuring and how I am feeling/eating/exercising. I think I've only gained about 8 lbs. so far this pg, which is way less than my other pg's, but I feel like I am eating healthier from the start and exercising more. I wouldn't be worried and I wouldn't trust the scale, I love that my midwife doesn't do weight checks! :)

Don't be worried unless your dr. gives you a reason to worry. with my first pregnancy i LOST 25 lbs over the first 3 months...kept going to the docs...they said there didn't seem to be anything wrong...and there wasnt...just a day or two shy of being 6 months preggers i had my first ultrasound and found out it was twins ...and those first 3 months i wasn't consuming enough to nourish the both of them so they ate up my fat reserves!!! and were both born at over 7 lbs each :)

its normal to not gain at all for the first 3 months then gain .8 to 1.2lbs/week after that so at 20 weeks you're right on track

I agree! People are coming up to me constantly (strangers in the store, waiters dependent upon my good graces for tips..) tellling me my stomach is WAY too big for just one, how many am I having etc. I have gained 14 lbs at 27 weeks, and my dr is very happy. So Try not to stress! :giggle2: Like that's so easy!
Seriously, your doctor would tell you if there was reason to worry.

We have our first born's almost the same age mine is 19 months, and I'm 23 weeks prego. I thought that was neat. I agree with the mama's that said everybody is diff. if your baby is healthy then you are probably just bulit like that. I gained 45 lbs with my first. And I was super skinny to begin with. Now with the second I have only gained 20lbs. But if you only gained 22 with your first. Then it seems you stay petite anyways!!

that is funny blessedmamax2- we are also doing it in the reversed order - I had my boy first and now am expecting a girl, and you started with your girl and now are having a boy...
Thank you ladies for all of your input, my o.b.g.y.n is very happy with my weight gain [I have officially put on 6lbs and am 23wks 3d] she said that as long as I keep a steady/consistent weight gain and don't all of a sudden pack on 10-15lbs then I'm fine. She keeps emphasizing how pleased she is with my pregnancy weight gain track record from first pregnancy to now - and weight maintenance in general so I've decided to just enjoy the fact that I am a thin pregnant woman and accept all the compliments and jaw drops I get ;)
Thanks again!

I hid my 1st baby pretty well until the end. I measured small from the start and any weight I gained came off when he was born. Everyone at my baby shower was shocked by how small I was. This time, I popped more, but have not gained more. I am carrying lower. I measure small, but on track. Also, my mom did not gain a lot with all 3 of her pregnancies.
I agree if your doc is happy, you are fine.

I wouldn't be worried at all. My sister is skinny and with her second child, she had just a little bump, barely could tell...and if you didn't know her you wouldn't think she was preggo. From the way you are sounding, everything sounds fine. ANd I am gaining less with this one compared to my son.

well at 33weeks I've gained 14lbs- I've decided to embrace my good fortune instead of stressing. my friend gained 60lbs with her baby [who is 2.5months old now and weighing 16.5lbs!!!!] and I guess...I'm glad that's not me! All our bodies are different and respond to pregnancy differently, and I have a high activity level and all that so...I guess it makes sense to not gain SO much weight.
