I have a pair of nb/small longies I had custom made from Pumpkin Pie Baby. That's it. I am waiting to find out gender.
Oh, almost forgot. I was given 9 small white FB during my last pregnancy, that I m/c, and all the elastic is shot so I am slowly undoing/redoing all of that. what a serious PITB. I hate unsewing. But free is free. I've never used pockets before.

Me too. And I don't even know where to start. What are you ladies going to use when your babies are new? I'm thinking either prefolds or fitteds. I've never cd'ed a newborn before. I didn't start until Evan was 5 months and Logan was 20 months.

I'm gonna start w/ pockets and maybe a few fitteds. The pockets just seem the least bulky on such a tiny tush! That's jmho though!
I'd like to get a few small fuzzi bunz and some bb newborn fitteds and then I should be done, but I'd like to wait and find out too before I buy anymore!

I'm going to do pockets and fitteds/wool.
I had a sale yesterday and the mama wanted some more things and she also had a thread on HC about doing trades so we're going to do a trade for more longies for the new one. I'm psyched!

I've got lots of fluff: different sizes and gender. It's just so much fun to get fluffy mail, I went overboard before we even tried . Not to mention, it can be pricey so most of it is gender neutral and it has allowed us to build over time and not go broke all at once. We are going start with prefolds, just seems easier and so much less time consuming on drying.

I will be using primarily fitteds and PUL covers with a few pockets thrown into the mix. that will be our stash until baby starts sitting up, then I ditch the extra bulk and go with just pockets and a few AIOs.
I tried prefolds and covers and they didn't work, my son woke up drenched through everything. naturally he slept alot being a newborn, and I would change him every time he woke up (every hour or so) but he was already soaked through his clothes and everything. Never had a single leak with a fitted/cover combo

Good point with the soaking through. Evan was a super soaker even at 5 months so I was actually leaning more towards some Thirsties Fab Fitteds.

Joey was a supersoaker when he was a little one, too. I made him a bunch of two layer windpro AI2s and they saved my sanity. They were a little bulky (I used midweight most the time) but not too bad and they worked GREAT!
Once this one is through the newborn stage I'll prbably go to all AI2s again. It's all we used with Joey after 9mo and it was awesome.

I wanted to get my hubby on board with CDing, so I bought a selection of gently used and a couple new from Jillian's Drawers. I made him practice diapering a small teddy bear and tell me which diapers he felt most comfortable with. His favorites were the BG 2.0 AIOs and the BG 3.0 one-size. He really liked the velcro closures--much less intimidating than snaps, and seems especially fond of the AIOs. The whole insert thing with pockets strikes him as a pain, but he's willing to deal with it.
You have to understand that this is a guy who is the youngest in his family and has NEVER changed a diaper in his life. But when I told him how much we'd save over time, he was right on board. Now he's trying to invent a better diaper sprayer for me! It's great to be married to an engineer...:goodvibes:
All together I have 13 smalls and extra smalls (mainly XS). These are mostly gently used BG AIO XS and S, with a couple of BG bamboo fitteds in XS (plus an Imse Vimse cover), a couple of Kushies Ultra AIO in XS, and a Thirsties AIO in XS. I also have a Happy Heiny's small pocket diaper and a small FuzziBunz. These two were the ones hubby wasn't too impressed with. But we'll hang on to them and I'm sure they'll get use. I'm considering getting a few more smalls as they show up in FSOT or on clearance.
Once we're past the tiny stage, I have mainly BG 3.0s and some gently used 2.0 one size diapers, plus some breathable Haute Pockets one-size. All together I have 25 pocket diapers, plus a number of extra inserts and doublers.
I've gone about 60% gently used or clearance and 40% new. I told hubby that I'd be using the Tax Relief towards the diapers. Since we did direct deposit of our refund, our tax relief goes in really early next month--just in time to pay the bills!

I finally got all the old elastic out of those small FB I was given and have put new in three of them - only 6 more to go.
And while I was cutting out orders yesterday I cut some small and medium PUL cuts for myself. Sometimes cutting if what takes me the longest for some reason. Once I get past that hurdle I can whiz right through things.
Now at least there are a few things in the diaper drawer. :)

14 Kissaluv Fitted size 0
8-10 BG 3.0
1 dozen infant PF's but I'm not sure if I'll use these, someone encourage me to use them!
1 dozen premium PF's
I have a few medium FB's and HH's
I still need a bunch more BG 3.0's ( I'll have 2 in diapers for a little while!)
and some covers!
I just don't know where I"m going to keep all these diapers in this tiny apartment!!

donnamarie - those infant prefolds make fab trifolds in AI2s later on. I need to get more just for that reason.
I also made myselrf a couple of wool interlock soakers in nb size the other day. They came out really cute. The I got a Hyena Hug in the mail from Lisa/Healing Pixie. It's a handpainted infant Indian prefold with a hedgehog on it. It's so darling!

I just counted up everything I have so far. I think I am set, especially since I will be washing daily
and I have bigger babies so I am focusing more on a size small stash than newborn size
We are not finding out what we are having. I dont mind what gender the fitteds go towards, will use those regardless. the covers and pockets are a mix of boy/girl/GN, so if anything I might need a few extra covers once the baby is here so it can be more gender specific stash
Newborns:
(I plan on using the small covers with the newborn fitteds)
8 kissaluvs 0
2 kind hearted woman fitteds
5 nanipoo fitteds
1 Snap Ez pocket (technically a small, but its TINY)
1 very baby pocket
Smalls:
1 thirsties fitted
1 sugar plum baby fitted
1 Bijou Baby fitted
6 peewells fitteds
10 Dreamboat Diapers Fitteds (in the process of making them)
1 thirsties cover
1 prorap cover
5 bsww covers
1 baby blossom designs cover
13 Serenity Baby covers (I make these)
6 very baby pockets
3 Fuzzi Bunz
1 Serenity Baby pocket
1 My Precious Baby By April pocket
1 Happy Cheeks pocket

I haven't even decided if we're going to do cloth in the beginning, now that we know there's two...I'm thinking of potential C-section recovery, learning how to tandem breastfeed, dealing with a crazy toddler who may or may not be out of diapers by then...I don't know if I want to add diaper laundry to that in the beginning. I hate it, because I totally want to knit a bunch of newborn longies and not buy a ton of icky 'sposies, but I have to be realistic too. I think I may wait until they fit into our OS dipes and just work on building that stash up for now. Hey, maybe they'll be good sized and fit into them pretty quickly - I can hope!

But as far as his stash it seems to grow a lot. i bought some AIO from a mama here as I thought they were red in the pic but they were HOT PINK so yeah i turned and sold those. I have a question...
I know meconium doesn't stain dipes, but we use olive oil to clean it off their little bottoms. For you mamas who CD'ed from the start, did you put oil/petroleum jelly on your little one at each dipe change, or did you just use it to help clean them off after a meconium poop? My biggest concern is ruining my dipes that way, or by having the meconium sticking to them, it's so hard to get off!
FancifulFanny
05-25-2008, 10:53 AM
I don't think I used anything on Joey when he had the merconium. I just wiped with wipes moistened with water. I don't recall it being an issue but I could have a mental block on the whole period of time. lol

I am buying some tie dye prefolds from a mama here on DS. it will be my only splurge like that though. I could dye my own but honestly I don't feel like it! I also was thinking about fuzzi bunz if I don't like the bum genious. A friend is giving me 3 of the OS 3.0 BG's. I think I could pretty much not buy a single diaper and use what generous moms are sending my way and have enough for a stash. I have to have at least a few special dipes, that truck one being one of those it was a nice surprise, and a custom dipe for each size (fitted) but I want to have a stash of what works and i have quite a few different kinds so its all about trying what works then buying more of that kind I suppose!

My PLANNED diaper stash or my real one? LOL
I have raided my store and made some diapers for my baby, but she really does not have a full stash yet. I have tons of dyed Sheepish Grins prefolds, some Thirsties covers, a counting sheep Wahmies OS, a BG 3.0, a HH OS, several prototypes from my Sheepish Grins OS bamboo and OS wool cover tests, a bunch of CUTE NB fitteds I made that I am now afraid will be too small for as big as I think this baby is gonna be, a couple of Drybees prints, and two Chloe Toes pockets.
I have a bunch of sized LFN pocket diapers cut out for her with all my favorite print PUL and some of the other prototype diapers (bamboo/hemp, PUL and such) I am working on, but I have sold off most of what I have acutally sewn. I was too sick to sew for months, now that I have time to sew I am trying to build up inventory so I am not closed for more than a few weeks when she comes. I hope I have time to sew all these before she gets here in addition to making enough to sell.

and like you, I am working ahead and putting them aside for this fall so I'm not closed other than the initial couple weeks.

This being my first, I am so not sure what to expect as far as how long I am going to be out of commission after she is born. Of course, all babies being different, I am not sure how much time she'll take up either. My husband keeps telling me that newborns don't cry that much and that they are easy. His only real experience was with his 11 year old. Either she was WAY easy or his memory fails him, cause he is so not realistic about what it takes to care for a newborn. OTH, I have taken care of dozens of newborns and I am just praying for an easy one. I keep telling him to be quiet or he'll jinx us with a screamer. My 2 month old nephew is a whiner, drives me crazy. He doesn't really scream, but he is always fussing about something. I am hoping Eva will be one of those babies that sleeps a lot in the beginning.

Yup - there are way too many variables to be able to tell right now. I'm hoping this one is easier than Joey was. Joey was high needs and didn't nap except for cat naps. He nursed constantly and we ended up back in the hospital for jaundice at 11 days old and between that and all the daily drs appts for blood draws and the pain I was in post partum (hemmorhoids are EVIL)...well, time was not something that was my own for a long, long time.
I can't get two like that, can I?

Hmm let's see, I think about 15ish or so pocket dipes in smalls (some FB, HB and very baby). Three dozen new cloth wipes. I splurged and bought four custom nanipoos that are oh so cute (smalls).... I think I have two AIO"s and then two BG 3.0's, never used them so we'll see how they go. Then I have some random dipes that I've been given stuff I use in case of emergencies, like kushies.
I really need to stop buying lol... But things are so cute.

Mostly I have my stash but that is thanks to using prefolds and contours with one size covers so my DS stash will double as the new babys stash..
He uses the infant prefolds as doublers at night with some diapers. I do want to buy 2 or 3 newborn covers but that is it.
I will find and buy one super cute halloween set too..

Just got my first fluff package in the mail today :lostit: 2 Bumkins covers. They are soooo cute:happyfluffyday: I will be placing an order for infant pfs and flats soon. I am shopping on FSOT now to see what I can find so I know what all I need to order. That way I can order it all together and get free shipping  I cant wait to buy wool but holding out until we pass the nb size so he/she can wear them long enough to be worth my money.

I've got like 12 newborn fitteds, but I am worried that they won't last long since they think she is going to be 9-10lbs. I am really hoping they are wrong, lol. I also have 8 onesize BG 3.0 that I got in the last seconds sale. Just need to order inserts since those sold out so quick. I am planning on ordering some small and med pockets or maybe more onesize, I haven't decided yet. I am going to order some prefolds and Kozy's from a co-op coming up, just hat not knowing her size, kwim?

I just ordered 1 dozen premie UBI pre-folds, 1 more which makes 30 UBI newborn pre-folds, I have 4 IV contours and 2 tiny tush and ordered 4 Stacinator So Simple Diaper Covers in newborn.
I have one size covers for after newborn stage. I have 8 contours snappi(4 here 4 on order) that are for night and outings that this one and my 2 year old will share. The two will also share 2 dozen UBI toddler pre-folds, I will buy 1-2 more dozen depending on when the baby out grows the newborns and my toddler PL.
I am still looking for some cute fall g/n longies.....
I am not allowed to buy anything but newborn till at lest Oct.

It looks like I'm the only one not stocking up on newborn diapers. Most of my stash is small diapers, covers and longies. Being that FSOT is so slow right now I guess I'm scared to spend money on diapers that won't get used for too long.

Nope, not the only one Michelle. I have newborn (which is my size small) but mostly I am doing the 10-18lb size. I don't want to spend a ton of time and energy on something and never use them.

I am DONE... (I amd done, I am done, I am done... someone please keep reminding me of that!). I have a little bit of everything to try in the small sizes and a few mediums as well. I have fitteds in several brands, several different brands/types of covers, a couple of pockets, a couple of ai2's and aio's AND PLENTY of prefolds and covers if I don't like the other stuff. I have a couple more things that should be arriving in my mailbox from FSOT in a few days and I bought a bumgenius OS and a thirsties AIO pocket when I was at Cotton Babies in St. Louis the other day so I am set and need to spend NO MORE $$$ on this now!! Luckily most of it was given to me by a friend but then I guess I thought that gave my license to shop the FSOT and buy all kinds of stuff! I've tried not to buy anything that is actually newborn (some of the freebie stuff is) since I'm expecting this little guy to be a bigger baby.
Oh wait!!! I don't have a pail liner or wet bag yet. Tee hee... guess I'm not QUITE done. :giggle2:

Michelle I use many pre-folds so although I bought a good bit of newborn and preemie ones they will be(and are already for my DS) used as doublers for night time and some trips.
I only got 3 fitted newborn, that I didn't list forgot they are coming.
Then the contours are all size 2 or OS, that I thought my son would use too but are too small for him or I just don't like them for what ever reason on him, so I am saving to try on the new baby.
I don't plan on needing anything more for this baby other then maybe 2-4 more covers since I seem to be losing the ones I have. I had 6 now I can only find 5...

I do plan on buying some prefolds rather than newborn fitteds since they seem to fit a little longer. Not sure if I want to get infant or preemie, though. I have pretty small super skinny babies so I just can't decide.

That is why I got 1 dozen of each not sure if I should get infant or preemie either. My son was big(9 1/2 lbs) but my girls were all smaller(7 1/2 or so) and skinny. Figure I could/would use the ones they out grow later as inserts.
I am getting 2nds from clothdiaper.com, which is where I got the rest of my pre-folds and I am really happy with them.

I think I am done but I still need wipes and a pail and liner. A friend said she was giving me wipes and a wipe liner a long time ago but never has so far. She is now pregnant herself maybe its just preggo brain? Anyway I think we are good on dipes, just need the pail stuff. I want a pail that doesn't stink too.

I'm slowly ordering and trying to figure out if I have enough. I would post it all here, but I already posted in diaper chatter asking for help.:giggle:
Any of you ladies want to go give me your opinions? Especially if you've used cloth on a NB before??? I would really, really appreciate it. I just don't want to buy more then I need when I could by in bigger sizes that will last longer.

i was fortunate to be given 95% of my stash I have only bought the tie dye prefolds and a few of the aio and pockets.. such a mix of everything! I am not going to be buying any expensive diapers. My husband is not working we have no income so I can't. The big money spent is getting the stash that works the best and I don't think that happens until they are in mediums IMHO!

Fitteds and wool, here. Our son can't wear pockets, covers - anything PUL or he gets a baaaad rash - even after 10 minutes. It makes me wonder what chemical is in the PUL that makes his skin raw. We also use an all natural bum cream and soap/lotion, cotton clothes and mostly wooden, wool and cotton toys. I'm don't obsess over it (I turned out fine!) but we try to be on the cautious side!

I'm pretty stocked - I started collecting a year before we started trying so it wouldn't a hit the budget all at once.
I don't have any newborn size, though - all Wonderoos OS pockets.

I want to make my own fitteds (just need help on the soaker material) hoping that will cut down the cost a bit.

OOOHHHH......I so need to start a newborn stash. We didn't CD the first and the second we did not start cloth until he was in mediums. So, I have nothing and I can't wait to start shopping! We use wool & fitted diapers for DS, but I'd like to give pre-folds a serious try. DH isn't exactly happy about that idea, but he'll learn.
