I had heard that an infant seat is actual safest in the middle of the back seat. i dontknow if this is true. My middle seat only has a lapbelt though and you arent suppose to use just the lap belt-- so how is it safer?

also.. is an infant seat safer with the base or without?

No Drama intended please

the center backseat is said to be the safest since it is furthest from all sides of the car in case of an accident. as far as them only having a lapbelt, i think all cars only have the lapbelt in the back center, thats hwo mine is too.
with a base is safest if it come with one or has one available:thumbsup:

The safest spot is in the middle. There is nothing wrong with installing using a seat belt (lap or shoulder). BUT, if you can't get a good install with the seat belt and you have latch and can get a better install there, then that is the best spot.

oh. ok. Mine came with a base. if you dont use a base you just use the seatbelt which i would of guessed would be safer cause its more "strapped in" kwim? but im wrong apparently, lol. My car has a lap belt too in the middle. Thats where DD2 is right now but i just put her there yesterday due to being at my moms and having to fit a toddler booster seat in. I wanted to know if i should switch DD2 back to the side or keep her in the middle with or without her base.. thanks Sweet Fantasy.

The middle is the safest IF you can get a proper install there and can fit it, outboard is safe too!

Does your lap belt lock? If yes then it is fine to use. You never want an adult or child sitting (not in a carseat) in just the lap belt it is very unsafe!

If your Car seats manual says the Car seat is fine to use without a base then go for it.

you cant use a booster seat with just the lap belt, but a normal carseat is fine. :)

oh and the infant seat is safer without the base, but that's providing you install it right EVERY time. It's easier to install the base properly, then you don't have to worry about it every time.

I was told it wasn't legal in WA state to use an infant car seat without a base unless it was manufactured to not have a base....were they trying to feed me false info??? Hmmm something to look into for sure!

:headscratch: Ive never heard of a law like that.. seems kinda silly since if the manufacturer allows it, it is safe. Granted, Im in WI.. but even at car-seat.org boards I never ever heard that before and those gals are pretty knowledgable.. that would be could wuestion to post over there actually:thumbsup:
