Anyone else out there delivering at home with a MW?
This is my 3rd baby, but my first HB, and I am soooo excited but nervous too. :)

I have :) and I will never go back. It is so relaxing and you aren't strapped to a bed with somone bothering you all the time. My first HB the MW had just finished setting up and baby was born, with the second it took all day but I was left by myself when I felt I needed it. Best of luck and I think you will find it wonderful too!

i am not preggo, but i hope to be once my nursling lets me get AF back and i really would like a HB. I didn't have a bad hospital experience, but i didn't have a good one either. I would completely NOT miss any part of it. My concern is getting through the pain. i did ask for an epi and had it twice, but honestly i think the monitor belt is what made my experience miserable and more painful.
I wish you so much luck and when it is my turn i look forward to reading, learning and practicing for my own hb.

You will do great, I was there (3rd baby, 1st homebirth) back in November of 06'. We interviewed 3 midwives and ended up going with a sweet little Amish lady who has a face of an angel...at least it looked that way when I was at the end of the labor! I will also never go back to hospital, if God wills that is and I am saying that after the 3rd which was my most painful. I had no drugs with my 2nd, also with a midwife but in a hospital...it was a 2-3 hour labor and not near as painful (even with no drugs) but it was 6 years since I had another and I think it made this last one worse. I can say, I wish I would've went with a waterbirth though and if I am blessed with another, i will.
I wish you the best and I could tell you to relax and trust it all but I know you just can't. Thousands of years women have done what you are about to do and probably all have felt the anxiety and got through it anyway. If it wasn't a little scary, then that awesome feeling afterward, THE BABYMOON, wouldn't even be there....you will do great!

Me too!!!
This is my 3rd pregnancy and 1st HB w/MW. I did #1 w/OB in hospital, not fun, #2 with MW @ birth center, and the same MW is coming to my house for this one.
I think my trust in birth and my body's ability to handle it is what made the decision for me. AND I can't wait to NOT have to pack, drive, labor, deliver, recover (however slightly, BC let us leave about 4 hours after), drive home, resettle, etc., etc. It will be so nice to snuggle into my own bed with my new baby, hubby, and toddler.
This is #5 for my hubby. With the last MW birth he swears he will never go to a hospital again and is as much of a BC, HB, MW advocate as I am.
Good luck on your HB!

I am so envious. My DH will have nothing of it. I try and get as close as possible by doing a hypnobirth with my BF as a Doula.
I had a beautiful delivery with my last baby and am looking forward to this one.
Good luck all you lucky Mommas!

Go for it ladies! We did tons of research before finally deciding to a HB, 2 days before delivery to be exact! It was a wonderful experience for us. I'm so glad we didn't miss out on a wonderful birth experience.
There was plenty to eat and drink. Someone caring and knowledgable was always there for me without "being in my face". I could move as I needed to. We took all the pictures we wanted. And after the baby and I bathed we got to sit on our own comfy couch. The midwives had everything cleaned up and back in original shape before we even got dressed!
Do a search here for natural births and you will find tons of mamas that have done everything else and then tried a HB. I think all of them said they would never go back to a doctor and hospital.
I'm so excited for you!!!

I'm so jealous! I'm having baby #3 as well and would like to do a HB, but DH will have no part. We do hypnobirthing and #1 my OB was there and it was great, but with #2 we got the doc on call:yuck: He didn't want to do things my way, but I was already 9cm when we got to the hospital, so he didn't have too much say. I told DH that if we have a similar exp. to #2, it doesn't matter for the next one, it'll be at home:goodvibes:

I had it all planned out to have a HB with my second. My midwife, Mary from phx. az told me that BV (bacterial vaginosis) was no big deal and to take echinacea. Bv can cause early labor and it is too a big deal. so I went back to my OB that delivered my DD. So I am envious too, but also too scared now after my exp. Mary is a respected midwife and the best that I could find. She also has not heard from me after my last app. 4 months ago and hasn't even bothered to call or see what happened to me. My OB would never do that.
I have heard some really great things about Home birth though! I say go for it, and more power to you if you find the right MW!!!!

I'm having my 2nd at home unattended! Our first (last April) was suppose to be with a MW but she was late and my mom & DH delivered our son! It's was so wonderful and relaxed! I spent most of the 2 hours of labor in the tub. So this time we are just going to have my mom ( who is a CNHP) my sister
(massage therapist), my DH and a friend ( who is a doula) there with me. And of course my son!

I am! This is my third pregnancy and will be my first homebirth with a midwife. I am really excited, but started to worry about details like setting up the birth tub. I think I'd rather just birth in my own tub. I don't know if I even want DH in the tub with me. Maybe just close by holding my hand or pouring water over my belly.

We are delivering with a MW at home this time. I am so excited, a little nervous too. I worry about not having the house clean, food in the pantry, something going wrong etc :giggle: Mostly I worry that I wont be allowed to have my hb. That is my biggest fear.Iam having to work hard to do this hb its like everything that could is comming up first my blood pressure was high (but only at my midwife never the OB) than that stopped just in time and now its my blood glucose lvls which were high but now are okay (but they have to stay okay) Its an interesting journy for me. Im also nervous because I always go into labor early and well the person who is supposed to be here to help with the kiddos will be in Europe 2 weeks before I am due so if I deliver 1 day earlier than the earliest Ive delivered we have no one to watch the kiddos :giggle2:

I am worried about all that stuff too. I haven't started nesting yet, so I don't really care about the house right now and it shows. Also, my baby has been diagnosed with VSD (ventricular setpic defect), which is a hole in the heart, so I don't know how this might impact my birth. If it is severe, I may have to deliver in the hospital, but so far I am still planning for a homebirth.

We are planning a natual birth at a hosp right now, and it will be a VBA2C but we are also looking into finding a MW and having a HBA2C. I'm a little scared, but I think it will be my only way of not having to fight the Drs and the Hosp.

Wow! I didn't realize so many people were having homebirths :D Go mamas!
I would love to, but I think it would scare DH. He was deployed for the birth of our first daughter, so this is his first birth... and he's got a thing about me being in pain. He'll do whatever he can to keep me OUT of pain, and doesn't quite get why I wouldn't have an epidural right away, if at all (and why I didn't right away with our first DD!).

This is WONDERFUL! I'm so excited for all of you brave MaMas! It's all about trusting your body and knowing that you were created to do this! Did anyone get to see the Ricki Lake Documentary on Homebirth ABSOLUTELY AWESOME and very well worth watching!!! This was the first time my Hubby actually watched a natural birth! Even when he was in the hospital when I was delivering our first two babies he was a nervous wreck and could not watch just stayed at my head and cried and prayed!!! But while watching this movie he was like "cool" this is really neat(which I NEVER thought I would hear him say about birth!!) Now he wants to do a homebirth but I'm still a little nervous and have made plans to go to a Birth Center. My close girlfriend has five children and birthed the last three at home and just raves about the experience!!! Blessings to all of you, Keri.

It is awesome to hear so many good stories!! I am excited as we just moved here from Michigan and didn't have any idea who I would get to watch my two toddlers if I went to the hospital. That was my first reason for doing a home birth...less stress! Plus, I just want to labor alone...without people poking and proding me...so I am sooo looking forward to this!

This will be my 2nd homebirth. I wouldn't go near a hospital if they PAID me to have the baby there! I LOVE my midwife and am excited to be at home again!

I had planned a hb, but it didn't turn out that way...if I can give you one piece of advice?? no matter what happens, you will end up with a beautiful, perfect baby. Don't get worked up if things don't go according to plan!! Roll with it and get that baby out safe!

I'm a bit jealous too. My DH is also VERY NOT onboard with the whole HB thing. I mentioned it once and he pretty much freaked. I'm not opposed to a hospital birth exactly, though I didn't have the best of experiences with my first. I have since switched to a midwife and I'm hoping that makes all the difference. I've been practicing Hypnobirth/HypnoBabies too, and we are gearing up for a water birth in the tub at the hospital.
I will admit that I went to the hospital last Sunday for a tour (since it's a diff. hospital than I delivered in last time) and the nurse who did the tour was awesome and very positive toward natural/water birth but it still freaked me out a bit. I forgot how "medical" the hospital l&d rooms are.
But I just KNOW you all will have awesome home births and I can't wait to hear your stories!!!

I had a HB with my third...MW with first two but in the hospital. It is the most awesome thing. The hardest WORK I have ever experienced. My second got stuck and was born with a broken collar bone, so the regular MW wanted to scedule the birth and possible do a c-sec depending on the size of the baby. I was just not going for that and had always wanted to do it so WE DID IT. Labor was much more relaxing but I think my favorite part was AFTERWARDS...no nurses to push on me or take vitals every 15 min, no strangers coming to take my baby in the middle of the night for shots or whatever, no one urging me to send the baby to the nursery so I could rest. And I was able to nurse right away and keep my baby in my arms rather than the warmer! awesome! awesome! awesome! I'm going to watch the video again right now!
