I just purchased a fabric cut for a wrap like a moby wrap from another mama here, stretchy jersey like material.

It is way big and i know i need to trim down before i hem. I was wondering if anyone could be kind enough to tell me what dimensions the moby wraps come in so I can make it that size.

Also regarding tapering ends.....any recommendations? I have no idea where to start tapering them or how they look on a moby but would like to taper them for sure. Any help, diagrams or pictures would help tremendously as i have never seen a moby and dont know what tapering would look like.

Weeone is in it now, but I'm guessing its about 5-6 yards. Ridiculously long! mobywrap.com is the official website. It shows the different wraps and may give a better idea on how to do the ends. I'm not a sewer, so can't help on sewing the ends.

I would try the basic wrap - middle of fabric at your belly, pull around back, cross over shoulders, cross in front, and back around. I like it longer so it comes to the front again to tie in front. Then I'd get a baby :giggle: (or a bag of rice or something with a little weight) to try it out for length.

I measured my moby wrap and here's what I got:

16 ft long
21 inches wide at widest
4" at the very narrowest end

I folded it in half, and it's at 21" width for 70" before tapering it down (so 140" unfolded).

I HTH!

ETA: Tapering is just gradually narrowed down and it's rounded at the narrow ends. Hope that makes sense.

oh my gosh thank you so so much. this will help greatly and i get a clear picture of where to start tapering :)

I will def. try it on first. actually wash/dry first before i begin to cut. This fabric cut is def. way longer than that.

The measurements up top were just about the same for me except mine is 17 feet long(even though moby says it is 5.5 meters or 18 feet) and it is 22 inches wide. This is enough for me to wrap around the back for a tie and bring to the front for an extra tie and have about 1 foot of fabric hanging as a tail. My tapering starts at 74" with a direct line to the end where it is also 4" wide. Since this is cached by google search, I thought I'd add extra info about the fabric. Mine is 95% cotton with 5% spandex. This is an awesome blend if you are trying to make your own because it give support with a little bit of stretch and it also makes it breathe well so you aren't sweating. Of course it is also a knit. I have a heather grey material and love it because I am in Florida and anything dark will attract the sun and roast you and your baby not to mention cause a serious sweat fountain. Hope this helps someone out there in internet world. Oh, and I serged the edges for appearance and structure although most jersey knits don't need serging because they don't really ravel. Just in case you want to know if it will be too long or short........I am 5'11'' and so it totally is long enough for me. If you are really petite and short, you may want to alter your length so that you get less length in the tails when you tie it off.
