when should I put the carseat in the van? I was thinking of trying now because with 2 other kids I need to figure out the best seating. Anyone with 3 kids and a van have positioning suggestions? :) (I have stow-n-go seats also)

We put the baby carseat in when we had 4 weeks to go. One kiddo was in the back row and one in the middle and per my poor ds's request (I'm so lonely back here mom!) finally moved them both to the back seat together. We thought they would fight, but they entertain each other quite well! It is easy to get to both of them, just have to help unbuckle ds before I walk to the other side of the van to get dd.

The baby seat will go in the middle row when this one comes and the big kids will be able to keep an eye on the baby that way too.

My DH gave the carseat a "test run" a few weeks ago. He's got it down to about a 5-minute installation, tops.
So, we are leaving it out for now, because I like to ride in the backseat with DS, but with the base in there, I can't.

He will probably just put it in before we go to the hospital if there's time then, or if no time, we'll just throw it in the trunk or backseat and he can install it in a few minutes in the hospital parking lot before we leave.

I was just thinking about this yesterday. I guess we'll leave ours out for now too. I think he can get it in pretty quickly when we need it. LOL

I decided to give it a try. I've put the two boys in the backseat and folded the seat behind the driver into the floor. My oldest can get in and out, buckle and unbuckle by himself so he's in the farthest corner. I have to climb in the van to buckle #2 in, but to unbuckle I can reach him from outside the car or sometimes #1 might do it (if #2 lets him). #1 asked "Why does sister not get to sit and see where we are going like the rest of us?" I explained she's safer that way cause she'll be so little, plus this way he and Samuel can keep an eye on her. :)

When #1 goes off to kindergarten, I may move #2 back up to the middle. I'll see how this works over the next couple of days.

I have four weeks left too, but I don't think we'll install the new baby's car seat until after it arrives. Since our daughter is still in a car seat I don't want to have to move her until we absolutely have to. My dh is insanely fast at installing car seats so it won't be a problem.

Not to highjack this thread or anything, but for those of you who have two children and a sedan, what positions do you have both carseats in? Our oldest will be around 16 months when the new baby arrives. I was thinking it would be safest to have one on each side of the car rather than have the baby in the middle. I'm afraid that our daughter may get too frisky with her little brother or sister while we are driving.

we moved our oldest to the back for some reason our van doesn't have teather back there (unless im just dumb and cant find it) so our middle child can stay tethered. baby will go next to him.

When DS#2 was born, we actually had two 2 door cars. That was fun (sarcasm). We put one on each side.

I think I'm putting one on each side as well to avoid DD trying to touch the new baby. I'm putting in the carseat this weekend, so DD can get used to it in the car.
