I am a 25 year old married momma of an almost two year old son, with a (?) girl on the way (EDD: July 4th, but we know how accurate those are ;-). The ? is because the ultrasound tech basically said 'keep reciepts'. Hehe.
My hubby and I came to a final decision to cloth diaper, and to switch our son to cloth as well. I have been garbaging down information about it like a madwoman and have decided upon prefolds and covers, and am trying to save the most $$ possible. This of course led me here! I have pretty much decided I'm going to buy the prefolds new, but I don't see any reason to buy the covers new.

What covers are you using/ have decided to use?
How many covers should I get for my newborn and for my son?
How long does it usually take to receive a shipment from the lovely ladies here?

*can't wait to get her stimulus check!*

I use Bummis Super Whisper Wraps, and Bummis Super Brites, which are the same as the BSWW's except the legs are gusseted and they hold in more poo :)

Depends on the mama as far as shipping. I've received stuff in 2-3 days, the longest I've waited (for Continental US) is 7 business days... but it turned out she forgot to put the priority sticker on the box, lol. Doesn't happen a lot!

I use 2-4 covers for DS (18 months) but I hear you should get 6-8 for a newborn :) I wash daily ;)

Yeh the more covers the better for newborns. Funny, my u/s tech said the exact same thing! Keep your receipts, we're having another u/s this thursday, so hopefully we'll know if its a girl for sure.

I don't have much experience yet in diaper a newborn, DS was 5weeks before he fit into his small fuzzibunz, which were the only diaper I had at the time.
You are definitely going the right route as far as being economical and newborns go through a lot more. I've heard XS thirsties covers were good too, I plan on getting a few of those, and maybe some of the previous mentioned. If you sew at all I heard XS Very Baby diapers are the way to go as far as fit for a newborn, I'm making some from their pattern (pockets). There's a thread right now in diaper chatter with pics of newborns in XS VBs. (I just gotta get motivated to make some more!) lol

It really irks me that in the town I live in I cannot get fabrics that work out well for making cloth diapers (at least I don't think so). no one sells diaper flannel, and no one sells PUL. When I say I want to cloth diaper people look at me funny: "But Idaho Falls doesn't have a diaper service" "Um... So what?"
It's very tempting for me to open one! LOL.

That makes me feel very relieved! I'm starting to have a bit of nesting desperation (I really don't think this baby will wait until July to be born). We have soooo much to do, and not much time to do it in ;-)

most places dont sell diaper making stuff, so you arent alone. im pretty sure you can only get PUL online and most of the other "better" fabrics are the same story:( im due with my first in july and i have made her entire stash by buying fabric online (bought PUL at verybaby) and little bits at craft stores (fleece and cotton print) and wool sweaters from goodwill... which is a good avenue if you can sew: you can buy wool sweaters at goodwill (they have these dollar days where you can buy all sweaters for $1 instead of 4) and then sew covers yourself. super easy, and you can get a lot out of one sweater:) im going the prefold/cover-soaker route too... but i have made some pockets and AIOs as well...

i bought diaper service quality prefolds at target. i was originally going to buy them at target.com b/c i thought the diaper service quality ones were only online (the plain birdseye cheapy ones are available in store at walmart, kmart, etc.) but it turns out they carry them in store as well at target...

I really like Thirsties covers, and once my next shipment comes in I should have I think 5 of them. I was told you'd need anywhere from 4-8 covers depending on how often you want to wash. A nice feature with Thirsties is that they can be wiped clean on the inside so you don't have to wash them every time.

There are dozens of stores. Just google the brand you'd like!

I also love thirsties covers. Leg gussets to contain explosive EBF poo!

I am trying to have more like 8 covers, since I expect poo on them (we are using prefolds from green mountain diapers, I also have some fitteds and pockets).

I have a lot  I have a lot of PUL and wool so I have different options. I am not a simple stash person and change my mind daily so I like to have the chioice of PUL or Wool for the day. Heck I like to decide btwn, knit and interlock...
