Has anyone used Femara to ovulate? I've done 7 months of clomid while ttc #3 and that's more than enough. My RE has switched me to Femara this next cycle, along with doing an HSG and a SA for DH. I was wondering if anyone has done femara and what were your experiences, compared to clomid.

I took it last year and it is great! No symptoms at all compared to clomid aka the evil drug! I always had at least two follies but we never caught them and were not wanting to pay for IUI. Now we are in a state and my insurance covers IUI, so we have an appt with the RE on the 13th and I really REALLY REALLY hope that he gives me Femara at least if not that then injuctibles and IUI.
I hope that all of us who are struggling get everything that we have been praying for!
I hope that this has helped you and pray that you can catch the eggie.
Melissa
p.s. if you are having the HSG done, take a mega dose of Advil about an hour before you go that way you will not feel so much pain after the procedure, because it does hurt.

Thanks Melissa!! I hope you catch your eggie, too. I definitely will be taking something for pain, probably percocet though, as I already take it for 2 messed up discs in my back. I am anxious to see how the femara works for me. Did it make you ovulate any sooner than on clomid? My re really wants my O date moved up a few days but I'm not sure my body can do it. I seem to take a while to mature eggies. LOL

I seemed to O on cd 14, but then again, I am a true 28 day cycle.
It did not make me ovulate any sooner than I expected, I also had a trans-vag ultrasound to see how many were there and a trigger shot to make sure that I would ovulate.

hopefully the Femara will move up your O and you get to catch the eggie.
My doc in Houston did a trigger shot, I don't know what this new one here in WV will do. We are going to talk to him about IUI so he may be doing trigger shots as well, just not sure about what drugs he is gonna give me, hopefully not Clomid, and hopefully Femara or injectibles.......
I hope that we are all posting BFP's have having healthy little bundles to bring home soon!

I conceived my son on my third dose of Femara.
By my third round I was ovulating earlier. I also usually ovulate later.
I did another three rounds last spring but no luck. However I have only one tube so my chances are cut in half. When I ovulate on my tubeless side I have no chance.
I'm trying Femara again, this is my first month. I have a u/s tomorrow to see if my follies have grown any. I got really bad headaches and body aches (caused by withdrawal of estrogen) this time. I like it tho because it gives me a more normal cycle.

Well, I start tomorrow. I'm excited but also nervous. I hope I don't get headaches from it, as that's what I got from clomid in the end and I hated it. Mine always turn into migraines. Good luck with your u/s and cycle!!

well this month it's a dud. My follicles haven't done anything, except for one strange looking one.

I had my first Femara cycle last month. On CD14 I had an u/s and there were 2 follies, but neither big enough. I still haven't gotten AF yet. I am thinking that I didn't 'O'.
Heading to the dr today find out for certain if I o'ed.
I took it CD4-8

Kristen, I am so sorry you didn't O on it. I hope that doesn't happen to me.

I understand! I'm quite scared to actually be pregnant again as well. I'll be terrified of another loss, too. It's always something I guess. I had my HSG this morning and my tubes are open now. He had some trouble getting the left to go through, but it's open now. So, hopefully it'll help us get pg now. I just need my egg to cooperate. DH will be gone all next week, home 3 days and then I leave. So, it's gonna be tricky getting it all timed.

I thought I would chime in...
I am starting my second round of femara. I took my second dose today (he has me on cd days 3-7). Last month, my cycle was much more regulated, and I o'd around day 14-16. It is kind of hard to know because I work 3 overnight shifts a week and I don't temp on those mornings. From the temps I take, it looks like I had a strong O. My ob is not monitoring with ultrasound. After six rounds of femara (2.5 mg for 3 cycles, 5 mg for 3 cycles), he will due further testing, including SA.
The only side effect I had last cycle was a bit of fatigue on cd 6 and 7.
This process has been hard. I turned 30 this year, and I feel like my time is running short for having 3 or 4 kids. Also, we went to church on mother's day. that was a mistake. If we are still not pregnant by mother's day next year, we will stay home.
good luck to you. I hope it works better for you than the Clomid.

Thanks Laura! I hope you are successful this cycle as well. It is good to hear that it regulated your cycle. I normally O around cd 18 on clomid, and hope to not O earlier than that this cycle or we could miss O all together since DH will be out of town from cd 10-16. Yikes!! We just might miss it this month. :( I avoided church on mother's day this year. I lost my Mom in 1996 to cancer, my 78 yr old father has cancer right now and won't be here much longer, and I'm still not pg after almost a year of trying. I knew if I went, I'd be a sobbing mess. :hugs:

The one thing that I have with going to resolve.org is that in order to get any information you have to join, and that is a 55.00 membership fee. I don't have 55.00 for a membership fee.
I also think that the ladies here n DS are quite supportive and feel like they are my cheerleaders/family members, there for support and hugs and plifting thoughts! DS is much better and much cheaper!

As for Mother's day at church, yeah, it was hard, but I know the the Lord is with me and dh, and even though I was a blubbering mess during the service, I know that it is just a matter of time now, and quite possibly be next month that I and dh will be blessed with a miracle (or two).....

We did one round of femara and got pregnant (current pregnancy). I did a few rounds of clomid before we went to an RE to get pregnant with our 17 month old twins....it didn't do anything for me except make me a raving hormonal monster :giggle: So we wanted to try one more time and I asked my OB if we could try one round of something (clomid) before going back to the RE (for risk of multiples again) and he suggested femara. He said that it had a much lower twin rate than clomid...actually what he said was that it had "almost a zero chance of twinning". So I agreed. Well, it was awesome, no side effects, I actually was worried that it wasn't working at all because I felt great especially compared to the clomid....until I had those O pains.....YOWCH! They were really painful so then I knew itwas working.....and it did, we got pregnant WITH TWINS again. I am the first patient my OB has had that took it and got pregnant with twins...also his first set that has gotten pregnant with back to back twins :giggle:
Good luck! I hope that it will work for you!!!

Hi,
I just checked Resolve.org and using the bulletin board is free. I've never paid a dime so I was shocked to hear from someone here that there is a fee. I've been using the IVF forum for about a year.
Here's a list of all the forums in the Bulletin Board:
Adoption, Childfree, Getting Started, IVF and High tech procedures, High FSH, Male Perspective, Pregnancy after infertility, Parenting after treatment or Adoption, Pregnancy Loss, Secondary Infertility, and Third Party Reproduction
To access the Bulletin Board go to the homepage (resolve.org) , click on COPING WITH INFERTILITY (on the left inside an orange box) , then click on BULLETIN BOARD. You do have to login just like at DS but it is free.
here's a blurb from the site:

Holy cow!! 2 sets of twins! How neat! I secretly crave twins. I lost my oldest son's twin at 9 wks, and feel a little cheated out of that experience, if that makes sense. I conceived them on 50mg of clomid. I seem to respond pretty well to most fertility meds. I was sad to hear that femara doesn't cause twins usually. But, you never know, I guess. I can hope, right?? :)

I can understand how you would feel that way losing your little angel twin. We actually lost a triplet in my previous twin pregnancy at about 6 weeks and even then, at that early stage, it was so hard and I have felt such a loss without her here (she was an ID to my DD and then my son was in a separate sac). I (personally) would never go on the belief that it doesn't cause twins again :giggle: Good luck to you!

I'm 6dpo now, and stuck at 98.6 for my temp. LOL Nothing exciting, nothing to make me think I've conceived at all. I am, of course, skeptical that anything happened. I'll be testing around 10dpo, so only a few more days to go.

I am now officially on CD 1 and exited about our next step toward parenthood. CD 2 I have to call the doc, CD 3 I think I have a baseline ultrasound to see if there are any cysts. CD 5-9 I take Femara every day, CD 12 follicular ultrasound to see what my ovaries have made for me and dh to catch. CD 12 trigger shot, and 36 hrs later we are set for IUI. Then a TWW with no testing as all my test would come back BFP as the trigger shot is HCG.
This is what we are doing this month, please keep dh and I in your prayers!

I took letrozole (femara) for 6 cycles. I had no side effects, which was great. I noticed that over time it caused me to surge earlier than usual. Unfortunately, even with IUIs none of my femara cycles took. The last 2 IUIs my RE had added puregon injectables on top of the femara. Still nothing worked.
The good thing about femara as opposed to clomid is that since it directly effects your pituitary gland it doesn't thin out your lining over time. I always wondered if femara didn't work for me since I was already ovulating on my own.

I have much fewer side effects than with the clomid, but I do still get headaches. I have one today actually. I think my body doesn't do well with the lack of estrogen.
