Hey mamas,

I've known for a while what I'm going to name my daughter, but didn't know how I should spell it. Her name is going to be Michaela Anne. I've seen tons of variations of the spelling. Do you think the name will be mispronounced if it is spelled Michaela? I've also seen Mickayla, Mackayla Mykaela, etc. What do you think?

I love that name :) I think you might get Michael-a with that spelling, I'm not sure. Makayla is how I've seen it most often :)

At first quick glance I read Micheal-a...like a boys name mike...but it does say micheala lol. I think it would be easier if it was spelled McKayla/Makayla...just my honest oppinion :goodvibes:

I've seen it as Makayla, too.

I think you should spell it however you would like! I do think Makayla/Mickayla is more common though, so I don't know if you are going for more common or not. Sorry I'm no help!

I believe "Michaela" is the original spelling, and I prefer it to the phonetic spellings of it.

:yeahthat:

Michaela is the original and "proper" spelling of the name. I can't imagine that people would pronounce it wrong all that often. It's been around a long time. The other spellings are recent interpretations. I suppose it's a matter of preference. I would personally stick with the original spelling. :)

I have a Kayla and a Makenna.
We really had a hard time with Kenna's name. Then we saw a little girl with
Makayla and we loved it so decided to spell hers that way!
Hope it helps!

I'm confused. Isn't Michaela pronounced Michael-uh? I've known a couple of Michaelas and that is how they spell it.

my DD's middle name is Mikayla. My sis said the name and I spelled it the way it sounded to me or I never would have been able to spell it right because I am worlds worst speller. I say spell it how ever is easiest for you and what you like best. This poor girl's name will be spelled Emileigh.

People *will* mispronounce it, because people just DO mispronounce names even if they're straightforward! Go with your favorite spelling. <g>

That's interesting.

The girl's name Michaela \m(i)-chae-la\ is pronounced mih-KAY-lah. It is of Hebrew origin, and its meaning is "who resembles God". Feminine form of Michael. Kayla is a popular derivative of this name.

I guess it can be either.

I am MICHELLE and I have always gotten people reading it as MICHAEL... people are IDIOTS... Now seeing the some of the "phonetic" spellings, I'm glad I interpreted the proper way to say it, but I hate to say, it WAS a double looker for me! I thought at first that it was "mick-I-A-La" (or something like that) but I've actually never seen this name before... IMHO, you are her mother and can choose ANY way you want to spell your LOs name. I"m not all that creative (my DD's name is Emily Catherine :) ), but I have to say that I always hate to see parents spelling a child's name strangly, but spelling "phonetically" CAN help with them learning to spell their name! Sorry I've been no help! I do like the name, though, no matter how you spell it. Just go with what you are comfortable with! Don't worry about school bullies- they will find something to make fun of with everything...
