Does anyone know of a source for formal dresses for nursing moms? I will be a bridesmaid in a wedding 8 weeks after my baby is born and the dress the bride chose will not work for me. I need to find an alternative and can't find a source for dresses that will work. My sister has suggested getting a fabric swatch and taking it to a seamstress to make a nursing friendly dress. I want to make sure there is nothing available before I do that though.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi~I don't have any suggestions for places for nursing formalware, but wanted to share my experience. When dd #1 was about 3 weeks old, we went to a wedding. My wardrobe was very limited so I ended wearing a "less than desirable to nurse in" outfit. It was a one piece outfit that zipped up the back. I just went in the bathroom, which had a sitting room, unzipped the back and nursed her. It was out of the way and didn't seem to be too much of a problem. I'm sure it would be more of an issue for you since you'll have to be in the dress longer. Good luck (and congrats on the upcoming baby!!) Heidi

i've done the same as the above poster - not for a wedding - but other events where my outfit of choice didn't easily move out of the way to accomodate nursing. i found that with the zip-up back dress what i did was take one arm & boob out and then if i had a cardigan i put that back on my arm and that gave me some extra coverage.

http://www.milkface.com/dresses.asp I don't know what style you're looking for...but here's a few...you can google the manufacturers if you don't want to buy from that website.

Depending HOW formal you need to be, what about doing a skirt and top combo? I find that virtually ALL non-nursing shirts can still be nursed in...just needs practice. LOL
