When do first appointments usually happen? I am planning on a Midwife so I dont know if that makes a differnece. Last time I was under cruddy military insurance and had to go to the cold MTF. ick!

This time my hubby is just switching jobs and will soon be a Police Officer. I am not sure of what the insurance will be or the policy. Anyone in Texas have a DH with Government Insurance and can enlighten me about the coverage? That would be great.

I'm only about 4 weeks pregnant so are there any steps I should be taking? Or is it ok to wait until the new insurance kicks in to find a care provider?

Im from mass and my dr usually schedules me an appt (well at least it was like this with my first baby) around 6-8 weeks.

I've always heard it recommended to have your first appointment around 8 weeks, I hope that helps!

It varies from provider to provider. Mine doesn't do intake until 10 weeks and 1st OB until about 12 but they're always available for questions before then.

Yea i was going to say around 8 weeks for a first appointment and i don't think they do much but talk and perhaps check for a heartbeat! I still have not scheduled an appointment :tomato:. going to the base clinic and it is sooo not easy to get one as they are so packed here!

most places won't/can't check for a heartbeat with a doppler until 10 weeks at least. Some insist on waiting longer.:banghead: Mine is 10 weeks.

I am in Texas, but of no help to you since mine is an ivf baby - I go in for my first ultrasound at 6 weeks with my ivf Dr. then will be transfered to my OB for and 8 week appointment.

I made mine two days after I found out for sure that we were pregnant, and I am going in June 3. I will be 9 weeks I think. My MW is very liberal with the u/s and will pretty much give me one every time I have an appointment, if I want one (which I almost never do, unless there's an actual medical reason, LOL)

I'm under military ins. this morning I was trying to get the official lab work done so I could get an OB...that was a hassle, so I go in on Wed. to have them tell me I'm pregnant, which I've known, so that I can get an OB...but in the past it was between 10-12 weeks. I just like having somone I can call. My first one I broke out in hives before my first appt, and both my pregnancies had small issues, but enough of ones I was glad I could at least call and talk to someone --who could tell me no big deal or would make an appt. for me.

My insurance requires me to attend a prenatal class to fill out paperwork and do bloodwork before they will schedule me for an appointment. I'm currently planning to go next Thursday for the class and then I'll probably see the doc a few weeks later. I'm really in no rush though.

I see a midwife. Both times, she has seen me for the first time @ 11-12 weeks.

Congrats on your pregnancy!

With my DD I was seen the day after i found out because i had just had a miscarriage 3 months prior. I am not sure about this one. Since we are in between insurance (thanks to DH's work), I will be on medicaid for about 6 motnhs of this pregnancy. Does anyone know how long it takes before you have insurance and are able to go see a doctor?

I have my first appointment on the 28th and I will be 6 weeks and 5 days. I don't even know what they are doing since I go in on Monday for my blood draw anyways from my reg doc? Can they even hear a heartbeat at under 7 weeks?

I called and my office scheduled me for the end of next week (I'l only be 5 weeks!). I think this office did the same thing with my friend. I think it's really just to establish a relationship with me since I am a new patient? Who knows, but that is when they scheduled, not me. I'm still excited though.

I read somewhere that they cannot hear a heartbeat before 7weeks but that they might be able to see one around 6weeks??? I may be mistaken on this though.

my first Ob appt. is this wedn. but I am high risk so they want to get on it early.
I wish I could have a home birth and midwife, but with all the problems I have I doubt I find one.
