Had anyone had the glucose test yet? I swear I think I have GD but my first appt. down here isn't till the 28th. I am 25 weeks tomorrow and can't for the life of remember how many weeks I was with my others when I had to drink that nasty stuff.

Generally you get a GTT at around 28 weeks. I had GD with my last baby so I already had to take a GTT at 20 weeks, and I passed that one so I have to take another at 28 weeks I have to automatically take the 3 hour GTT then.

Yah I don't have to take one this time. My Dr. has change protocol and if you arent considered high risk, obese or history of diabetes in your family you don't have to take it. YAH. I had no idea what I was going to do with DS while sitting there for 1 hr in the lab office.

I am with midwives (homebirther) and I am nervous about the GD this time around.
My midiwves check the urine each time I see them for all kinds of stuff and I guess sugar has been high.
With my last pregnancy 2 years ago I did really well on the pre-test.
I don't think I am high risk or anything but for me next appointment mid June I'll be biting my nails to see if I pass this time, too...

My doctor said they won't do it before 25 weeks. Which is fine, because I'm dreading it. They're convinced I have GD because I nearly failed the first time I was pregnant (which is what helped me find out that I actually have a metabolic disorder where my body is dumping the food really fast into my system, causing my blood sugar to spike, and then producing too much insulin for too long, making me have hypoglycemia a few hours after I eat. If it hadn't been for that test, and the ones my father had for the same symptoms, I wouldn't have known.) But anyway, they aren't listening to me, and I'm dreading the confrontation that may come with this test. ;P

I just had it today at 28wks 3d. At my 20wk u/s, the baby's abdomen was measuring larger than its head, which is an indicator of GD. At my 24wk appt, I measured 28wks. Thankfully today, I'm only measuring a week ahead.

I am going to decline mine. I think it's pretty clear after this many pregnancies I don't have an issue AND I refuse to sit in that lab room for 1 hr with my DS1

Well the midwife's tester thingy didn't work so I am going to do this again in three weeks...
(We don't do the actual glucose test routinely. My midwives have me eat 60 -80 grams of sugar 2 hours before the appointment and then we just check with one of those diabetic test strip thingies if I am within normal. If it is normal then I don't even have to bother with the actual glucose test.)

Ahhh man! I'm glad I saw this thread, I just remembered I have to go for mine in the morning. I had GD w/ my 2nd pregnancy, so I have to take the one hr glucose test now, instead of waiting. I'm about 4.5 wks pregnant now.

I just took mine earlier this week, and I just started week 29. My Dr. gives me the nasty juice to take home, and then I just had to drink it before I came in for my appt an hour later, so I didn't have to sit in the office for an hour, which was nice. I didn't want to take it, but my Dr. gives the test to everyone, and I didn't want to make it a big issue, since it is covered by insurance and I was pretty sure that the test would come back normal (which it did) so other than being an annoying waste of a morning, it wasn't a big deal. My plan is to go to a different Dr. for our next kiddos, so hopefully I won't have to take the test again since I am not in any sort of risk categories.

My midwife rocks. She's totally empathetic about things like having to drink that nasty juice stuff, so she found another way- she gives you a very specific breakfast you have to eat exactly one hour before your apt, then she does the blood draw- it's 2 eggs, 2 pieces of toast with butter, 8 oz of milk, and 8oz of orange juice. Way better than the juice, although it was a smidge more (mostly more liquids) than I usually have at bfast so I was really full. But yea, they do it at around 28 weeks.
If you are worried, try watching your carb intake. I heard from someone that you can even control GD without drugs if you follow this rule (probably some other things with it, but I've never had GD so I only absorbed parts of the convo)- never EVER put a carb in your mouth without eatting a protein at the same time. And avoid refined carbs (white bread and pasta, any sugars other than fruit) altogether.

That's how my last midwife did mine too. I've never had it so I let my midwife know with this pregnancy that I didn't want to even bother with it and she was totally fine with that. her!

I took my first one at 26 weeks which I failed. I took my 3 hour at 27 weeks and also failed, and completed my diabetic education at 28 weeks.

I got the results of mine back a week or so ago - I was at 28 weeks when I took it. 125, so totally normal according to my doctor... yay! Ironically, I struggled all morning to get my blood sugar up because it felt low (and I was drinking a pepsi before I drank the glucose juice to help do that) and I finally felt better after I drank the glucose, so I guess it was just what I needed, lol.
