32 weeks is just not my friend!

In my pregnancy with DD I had Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) that started at 21 weeks, eventually I went on meds which helped a little. At 32 weeks protein started showing in my urine and at my 34 week appt my bp was so high and protein was still present so I was admitted to the hospital and told I would be there until I delivered which hopefully wouldnt be until 37 weeks. After 5 days in the hospital and a 24 hr urine, my dr let me go home on STRICT bedrest. I didnt have any other kids/responsiblities other than a few online classes so I did really good with the bedrest. Anyways at my 36 week appt my bp was still not favorable so we scheduled an induction for 37 weeks, it failed and I had a c-section. Thankfully baby was healthy and I did well and did not require any magnesium for the mild preeclampsia.

This pregnancy has gone so much better, I thought...I havent had any bp issues, and have felt really GREAT since the morning sickness ended (exhausted yes, but feeling good). So I was of course nervous about my 32 week appt on Monday, but was happy when the nurse took my bp and it was 118/70, then in comes the dr. She was asking me about any pain in the upper right quadrant, and any spots or flashing lights in my vision, neither of which I have had this time. I said there is protein in my urine isnt there? Well sure enough my protein was between a +1 and a +2. So now I have appts twice a week for u/s and NST on top of the normal checks on me. I am so not looking forward to driving 30 mins each way twice a week. Plus I think my hopes of a VBAC are slowly being shattered...

Thanks for letting me rant...

I can relate. I had pre-eclampsia with my first son. Induced at 33wks, LO had t-18, and he passed away at birth. second son, did super well and then at 32wks all the sudden BP rose and they put me on meds. I probalby could have stayed off the meds, but I was so scared to loose another baby that I didnt even think twice. I also got gestational diabetes. I had to switch from a midwife at the birth center to a high risk OB at the hospital. I didnt like that.
But the rest of the pregnancy wasnt bad except for the really strict diet. My BP was awesome and like I said before, I probalby could have come off the meds. There is a chance it was just a fluke couple of days that my BP rose and we over reacted. or the doctor did. I too had visits 2 times a week and NST once a week.

Anyhow, at 37wks to the day, my water broke at 8am at home and LO was born at 5:53pm. Labor didnt really start until the late afternoon. It was about as normal and easy as possible. Minus the doctor trying to use the contraction monitor to find heart tones. yeah, that made for a pretty scary few minutes.

Hang in there. It might not be as bad as it feels. I gave myself horrible anxiety attacks when my BP rose with my second son. All I knew was loosing my first child. So, I was quite scared to be induced early. But I realize now, that is wasnt as bad as I made it out to be. And thankfully, I was not induced and everything went smoothly. But all of your fears are completely warranted. I will keep you in my thoughts.

So sorry :(

Have you tried upping your protein intake? My MW said that the more protein you eat in your diet, the less you spill in your urine, b/c when you don't eat enough protein, your body starts trying to get it elsewhere, which breaks down your organs (kidneys first, then liver, I believe) and causes you to spill protein in your urine.

I get about 100g of protein a day, that's my goal :) And also salt food to taste, since restricting salt can CAUSE pre-e as well as other problems.

HTH

and hope it gets better!

My mw also said that protein in the urine (especially w/o other signs) can mean you're not eating enough protein. My first visit, I had +2 protein. I've consistantly had 'trace' since, but that's just "me".
