Anyone ever had their cervix stretched? Can you tell me about it? Did it work for you? Was it painful? Whats the difference between this and striping the membranes? I am 41w tomorrow and my MW is talking about stretching my cervix.

Yeah that's what my Dr. did with DD. I didn't know if it was stripping the membranes or not because she specifically said "stretching your cervix". It cause a terrible cramp afterwards, but it quickly went away. That was a Thursday, I lost my plug over the weekend, and had DD on a Tuesday! Hope that helps :)

I had my cervix stretched several times with DD...I was at a 3-4 for so long and so she stretched me to a 5-6 (even though I "stayed" at a 4) numerous times...this along with stripping membranes a couple times as well. It didn't do me a lick of good...until a few days after my DD when she did it for the last time and I started having my first ctx ever, but labor didn't really kick into gear until we did AROM 4 hours later.
I did find it REALLY uncomfortable though!!

I have done this, and have had it done to me. Especially for first time mommies, the body takes awhile to get used to the whole labor thing. Your cervix has to thin out and expand as well for you to deliver. Since you are already over your due date, I don't think it would be so bad. Its uncomfortable, but not unbearable, especially when you consider the contractions that will be coming. Be stretching the cervix, it can help break some of the 'bands' that are around the tissue, and get you to start dilating better, as well as releasing some hormones that help to induce contractions. Its a fairly non-invasive thing to get labor going if you got the right person doing it. I'm sure your MW has plenty experience.

I've had it done. For me It was no worse than a regular internal exam. But pain tolerance in everyone is different.

I am now 40 weeks today.. due date TODAY... and at my dr. appt this morning I was 2 cm and thinning..he "stretched" my cervix... it wasn't painful at all!! like pp it was just like a regular check. he said all he was doing was running his finger around my cervix to help promote a little more dialation...we'll see what happens. with DS #1 I was 10 days late.. so i will take it if it brings this LO out sooner!

I got stretched and went into labor 1 day later. HURT but was crampy and felt better fast. Kicked my labor in fast. and contractions picked up the next day. By the next day and a half I was at a 7 before I got to the hospital. Good luck. It should help.
