Has anybody struggled with UTIs during their pregnancy? I've had three already. I seem to always have blood in my urine (not visible) even when an infection isn't present. And I have had visible blood in my urine a couple times (it goes away when I hydrate well). I'm sorry if that's TMI! :)

It seems that all this was somehow triggered by my pregnancy. It wasn't a problem before the pregnancy. I'm praying it remedies itself after my baby's birth, but my doctor is worried it won't, and is planning to send me to a urologist after the baby is born for a bunch of yucky tests.

I'm so bummed by all this. I feel like it's putting a big damper on the end of my pregnancy. Instead of simply being excited about my baby's arrival, I am worried about what might be wrong with me and dreading these tests. :(

Anybody else ever experienced anything similar?

I tested positive for a UTI at every.single.apt with my first. I also had a full blown kidney infection when I was 3-4 months with him. Lost 15 lbs in 3 days--not so much fun as it sounds. Even though I've been prone to mild but frequent UTIs much of my life, they were never as bad as when I was pg with my first. And things did get better for me after he was born. So there is hope. Good luck!

I kept getting UTI's and they found a diverticulum in my urethra (unfun). I assume they would check for something like that. They said i've probably had it since my 1st DS but didn't discover it until a few months ago when i went to the ob.

I've suffered through a couple UTIs (one REALLY BAD) and a couple yeast infections (one of those took 3wks of treatment to get rid of!) during this pregnancy. I always have a trace of protein in my urine. Once it was VERY high, though. I had to really increase my protein intake, but then it improved.
Seems like there's a lot to be concerned about during pregnancy.

I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has had some of these issues. I called my doc this morning for results from a blood test they ran yesterday to look for an elevated white blood cell count that would indicate an infection. The blood test came back normal, so no kind of infections in my body.

I've been feeling fine the past few days here... drinking lots of water and taking it easy. It seems that visible blood shows up in my urine when I try to do too much and don't stay hydrated. I exhausted myself on Friday cleaning my whole house, and only drank one glass of water the whole day. Blood showed up in my urine the next morning, but when away when I drank lots of water.

I'm hoping these complications are due to the baby being so low and just squishing everything down there. I'm carrying him at the station 1 position (about 2-3 inches lower than most pregnant women is what my doctor told me). Makes for a lot of general discomfort!

Fortunately, it's not an issue for me. However, I had a HORRID UTI that I was completely oblivious to that sent me into some wicked PTL with DD.

Try and drink TONS of water, and 100% cranberry juice! That should really help.

I have VCR so I always get tons of UTIs, and this pregnancy is no exception. I've had to be on anti-biotics for 10-20 days at least 4 times so far.

At least I'm good at catching my symptoms early to avoid developing pyelonephritis. I had that twice as a teenager and it sucks royally!

I found this interesting..I used to get them all the time before I was preggo with DS, and I've only had one since he was born. (he's almost two and I didn't have any the whole pregnancy). Really strange I thought for sure I'd get them all the time while preggo since I was so prone to them...anyway I let my midwife know that I am prone to UTI's... she had me take probiotics and cranactiv (or cranactin.. can't remember) when she noticed that I might be starting to get one, knocked it out. Oh and she wants me to shoot for drinking a GALLON of water a day!:jawdrop: ..but that she's been having me do anyway, with or without a UTI. So I would suggest picking up some probiotics and cranberry tablets (juice never really worked for me) at a health food store.

I'm actually hoping I go through a normal labor. My pelvic floor muscles are really right, which causes my VCR. You'd think sweezing a 7-9lb baby would loosen things up rather permanently LOL!

Add me to the list of constant UTIs and every other kind of infection you can get while preggo with #1. Lol

No issues since the birth of him, and only 2 UTIs with #2 lol. So far so good with this pg. Lol *knock on wood*

Had them both pregnancies so far. For the first I took the abx and they didn't work (macrobid), so I just did cran juice and water which eventually did.

This time I took uva ursi and it worked. I hear if you have them chronically you can take CranActin as a preventative :)
