My RE's office is driving me crazy! I found out my baby had died more than a month ago ( it was about 8 wks at the time.) I decided to let it go naturally- no intervention. Waited almost 2 weeks for bleeding to start. After about 2 weeks of bleeding I went in for an ultrasound so they could make sure all of the tissue had passed. It didn't look done so they sent me for blood work to look at Hcg levels. It was 1000. A week later they had me go again and it was 123 or something. Going down like it should, end of story right?

WRONG! They want to follow it to zero. So a week later, another blood draw and it is 77. Now I have to go again! All they say when I ask why I need to go again they say- we really need to follow it to zero. Why? I have been leaving messages for nurses and getting messages from nurses- and the info they leave when I ask that question never really answers the question! And they call me looking for my bloodwork if I don't go exactly on the day they want me to go.

So- I am tired of getting stuck! I walk around with ugly bruises on my arms about 50% of the time after these draws and everyone asks about them- short sleeve weather you know! People at work are probably thinking I am dying or something with all of the blood I keep having drawn.

So I was supposed to go today and didn't. I am thinking of POS to see if I get a positive and not going to have blood drawn again until I get a BFN! That way I know that draw will be the last!

Has anyone else had this much blood drawn after a m/c? Do you know what they might be worrying about? I am still bleeding from the m/c- it has been 4+ weeks now. I am so ready for this to be over!

I don't know. I had a loss at 16 weeks, and had to go in for a d&c the next day, because only the baby had passed. I don't remember having to go get my blood drawn at all. Maybe at my follow up, but only that once, if then.

I couldn't read this however, and not offer :hugs:

Yes, it is quite common.

I think one reason is to rule out a new pregnancy. If your levels suddenly went up, which happened to me when I had an abdominal pregnancy, then they need to see what is going on. If there is a pregnancy in a place it shouldn't or if you're newly pregnant. Another reason is to make sure that no tissue was left in your uterus, which could cause an infection.

It is hard to keep getting stuck, and it's depressing that you're watching your levels go down instead of going up like it should be if your baby would have made it.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It should all be over soon.:hugs:

An infection- eh? Why couldn't they tell me that? :banghead:

Should the p/g test idea work? A BFP means an hcg level above 5 right? So negative would mean my levels had gone down to almost nothing.

Argh! I just want this to be the last time!! I don't want to hear- oh- it's 23 so go again next week.:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I would think it would. And then when it's down to zero you should get AF again, possibly. I just noticed you've had many losses. I'm so sorry. I've had three myself. It's heartbreaking and it's not fair. :hugs: again.

So last night I got a BFN- I guess I will go for the LAST (hopefully) blood draw today and make them happy. Ugh.

Oh Wendy---:bighug: When I had my m/c at 8 weeks(I 'd been spotting lightly between my 7th-8th week, but had seen the bean and fhb at a 6 week u/s)the Ob offered a d&c once my 8 week u/s showed the bean was no longer living:cry: .I declined and said I wanted nature to take over, luckily I started bleeding more heavily and after an intense "labor"I birthed the tiny gestastion sac, babe and placenta that night at home.I never had to go in for bloodwork afterward, but was advised to call/come in if my bleeding was too heavy or a fever insued.I had to call once the products of conception all came out.
I bled maybe a week and a half afterward.I ended up concieving dd Sarah 4 months later.
I'm sorry and pray you're over the bleeding and heal quickly.

:hugs: My OB insisted on tracking levels after our second loss. I too got tired of going in for the weekly blood draws, and after a couple of months, started going every two weeks instead. (Took 3 1/2 months for mine to zero out.) In my case, they wanted to track levels back to zero because I'd gotten pregnant on the heels of our first loss, only to lose the second one much earlier in the pregnancy. The OB wanted to make sure we weren't dealing with a molar pregnancy the second time around and said I had to choose between a D&C/biopsy or natural miscarriage/blood draws. I opted for the latter.

Whoa! 3 1/2 months- makes me feel bad for complaining about having to go for a fourth time-LOL!

I decided to schedule the lab work for Tuesday when I have the day off. I know they will call and ask when I am going/why I didn't go, etc. But I don't care. Hopefully this time I will get a big ZERO!
