Sara has some sensory issues and has since birth. Certain fabrics, certain outfits, certain little quirks about how she can and cannot sleep, HAS to wear her shoes indoors and no shoes outside TERRIFIED of loud noises, etc. Her favorite thing to do is lay on the couch in just her pants and have me "brush" her(ie, run a comb down her back) and when I ask to stop after like 30 minutes, she has a tantrum. She's just got some weird issues. And we are JUST getting to the point where she will eat normal foods instead of just dry stuff. We didn't really visit a pediatrician regularly and now we see a homeopath but only every 6 months and mostly just for her baby sister. I'm sorta wondering if she's just a little quirky or if she's got a problem that I can help her with. I'm not looking to diagnose her, more just wondering if I'm doing her a disservice by not taking her to a traditional pedi for an evaluation. But she's got a weird stranger anxiety if someone tries to touch her and I know an evaluation would be traumatizing.

My son hasn't been diagnosed with anything, but he just got evaluated by early intervention, & they said he has some sensory issues. He doesnt like getting dressed, having the clothes taken on & off sends him into tantrums. For a while he wouldnt eat mushy foods, like steamed veggies, mac & cheese, etc... he'll stuff foods in his mouth, & eat rinds (from oranges, lemons, limes).
The only point when the therapist touched him for the evaluation was when he approached her & was kinda cuddling her. She tried touching him very lightly, & then increased how firmly she touched him. & found that he was really squirmy if she touched him lightly, but squeezing him tight, totally calmed him!
Maybe try doing that? At least here, the early intervention program does a lot of just asking the parents questions. They also came in & didnt say hi to him or anything, which really helped him warm up to them!
