update: our homestudy has been approved! (Good thing, or how would that look if it wasn't after being approved 18 months ago and already having an adopted child in our home!) Now we just need to create our profile and decide the best way to start our search for an emom making an adoption plan. We will of course be open to any matches made through the agency directly, but since the program is so slow.. it doesn't hurt to cast the net a little wider. ;)

So we had our first meeting with our adoption worker to get things going for our second adoption. Since we've done an adoption with them before, they had our homestudy done that just needs to be updated.

Unless we end up finding a potential firstmom on our own... the wait will probably be 1-2 years... or more... the healthy infant program is very slow right now and I know they have several other families that have been waiting for 1.5 + years (becuase I saw their profiles on the website when we were in the process of adopting our LO.)

So it's all going to be in God's timing... and the reason we are starting this now is because we know it could take awhile and we'd like our children to be fairly close in age, if possible. (Alli is almost 17 months old now.)

The good thing about "waiting" is that it gives us some time to gather funds to pay for it. :giggle2: Altho, if we have to wait too long, then we'll have to update the homestudy again... (it's good for a year.)

Our last adoption was kinda a "fast track" adoption because we had an identified situation... it was 9 months from the first thought of adoption until we brought her home (the time period included a failed adoption before we knew about Allison.) I'd really love to have another 9 month paper pregnancy. :lostit:

Please share what stage you are at with your plans to adopt...

We're waiting for the court date for finalization. It should have been done by now, we're just "stuck in the system". We are like you, we want our two to be close together (we'll go for Sara next time). We still need to finish paying off the loans for Mark before we start for Sara- but we know it'll happen when the time is right.

We have faith, and I tell my friends who are also adopting to have faith -your child will come to you when he or she is supposed to. We went through the TTC process for 18 months, then were contracted out through our facilitator for just a few days shy of 18 months before our Christmas miracle was born. The timing was right for us, and we couldn't be happier.

Good luck - I hope your wait isn't too long. We are waiting for a final decision from a possible birth mom. This is outside of our agency - a friend of a friend referred the birth family to my friend for advice and she mentioned us. Anyway, I spoke to the birth mom's mother this weekend and we should know in the next week or so, but the waiting is agony. We were approved last July, and we had one match that fell through. But I am trying not to get my hopes up too much on this one, though its hard not to when I think that come July we could have a baby boy in the house! I just try to keep busy - we are finishing up some work on the house so we can relax and be a family whenever our baby comes.

Now you know..... since you WANT to wait, you'll match by Father's Day with an emom who's due in a week!!! ;)

Good luck with your journey. We are in the process of adopting one of our foster children, who's been with us since 2003. He came to us at 3, and will be 8 in a few weeks! :goodvibes:

:giggle2: It's all in God's timing..... we'd welcome a child at anytime, but yeah, a match by Father's Day would be pretty fast!!

Update: had our second meeting which will complete the homestudy update. Next I need to work on our profile, make dr. appts. and then we'll be ready to be "shown". We also have to do some more training hours to keep our foster license up to date. Altho it really sounds like their healthy infant program is slow... they have 7 other waiting families (4-5 of them have already been waiting for at least 1.5 years) and really no expectant moms who are planning to place for adoption (some that are getting support for parenting..)

So, we'll just have to see how this plays out... we may need to do some networking again like we did last time, but it will be a little more difficult because we kinda want to keep this adoption more private because of the attention we get from church. Since my husband is a youth pastor, we always get all kinds of people asking questions about how things are going and it gets tiring for my dh to keep everyone in the loop.. so we'll have to discuss how to do that.

Paula - good luck on keeping things going! It's exciting just to get the process started! By the way, I think you've done a really good job of thinking through the openness issue and your feelings about it while still keep first parents feelings in play.

Just wanted to give you encouragement~
Good luck and I hope you have a short wait~
