Can you have a home birth if you are GBS positive?
I ask b/c my midwife tests for GBS at the first appt, and I came back GBS positive. She has told me that once my water breaks I shouldn't hang around at home too long before coming in to the hospital so I can get the first round of antibiotics. I don't really want to run in right away and then feel rushed if things aren't progressing fast enough. (I don't think this will be a problem with my midwife, but more with the l&d nurses)
So what do you do if you are GBS+ and having a home birth?

I didn't know this in time for my last birth, but there is a homeopathic remedy that's been reported to work. You take it (asap!) then within a day or so (as I understand) you should come back with a negative GBS test - 'cause your body's rid itself of it. I'm not sure if you'd at all be interested in this, but I have a friend that is a doula and has gotten the nosode for several of her "clients" (not sure if she's had to take it herself or not:headscratch: ), and it's worked! Thus, no antibiotics needed and no rushing to the hospital!

I have been GBS + for each of my HBs. With my first my MW gave me antibiotics. WIth my 2nd, he came early, and I did not use anything. With my 3rd, I could have had IV antibiotics, but declined.
Your midwife should have IV antibiotics to give you every 4 hours. There are other techniques I know Moms have used to get rid of the GBS with probiotics.
Good Luck!

My midwife will test for this also but told me not to worry. Many women deliver with it and the babies are fine. You can also take some antibiotics before you go into labor.
I would check with your midwife and see if there are some other options , rather then going to the hosp.

My midwife gives a list of options if you test positive... from IV antibiotics, to some ointment I can't remember, to herbal/homeopathic remedies!!
They bring the IV to your home, so I know its possible to go that route.

momma, start using garlic cloves now and get rid of the bacteria! bacterial status changes on a daily basis so you could get rid of them by august for sure! and when you retest neg you won't even have to worry about it!
