I am due in 6 weeks and still trying to prepare my Jack Russell Terrier for our new arrival. Anyone else worried about this???

my parents had a beagle when my two girls were born we just brought something that the baby wore that had her smell on it before he brought the baby to the house... she was happy and wagging her tail... cuz she knew the smell.
-- the beagle was always well tempered so she loved the kids--
but do be careful they are dogs not humans-- although most dogs think they are:chuckle:
Good luck.

exactly what i was going to say.. we did it for our cat when we had DD.. i had a blanket that i used on her at the hospital and the night before we came home DH brought it home and let the cat check it out and she was cool when we brought here home and did the same thing with our dog when DS was born.. now our pets are outside so it's not an issue

-bring home blanket/hat with FRESH baby smell on it... one from the actual birth would be good
-when you bring baby home, have your dh carry him/her in and you go in first and drown them with attention
-remember to keep baby off the floor the 1st few weeks so the dog will know that they are not above the baby in the "pack"
-expect minor regressions in chewing/potty training/etc, this is very stressful for the dog and punishing him/her for feeling that stress will usually just make it worse.

We had a 70lb boxer that was wild and crazy prior to DS1--very hyper, very jumpy, liked to get up on your shoulders and lick your face. When we brought DS1 home he turned into a "gentle giant"... it was amazing to watch. He just KNEW.

Thanks for the help. I am hoping that everything will go well I am just wanting to make sure I have all my areas covered. Our dog is pretty smart so I am thinking he will adjust quickly. I have bought a baby doll and I will walk around w/ it and put in the swing and car seat. So far, he couldn't care less. I also bought a CD w/ baby sounds and he isn't fazed by that either. We just have to be smart so no accidents happen. Thanks again for all the ideas!!

We brought the blanket home to our dog before bringing home the baby. She seemed surprised the very first time he cried at home. I was sitting on our bed with him, getting ready to nurse. She immediately jumped up on the bed and sniffed and then laid down and was fine. No problems at all after that. She is a big girl too, about 60 pounds.
