View Full Version : Labor Keeps Stopping?

I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen? A week ago Sunday, I had contractions (more than BH) every 5 minutes for 4 hours. I was checked at my appointment on Tuesday and my cervix was 50% effaced, soft and "ripe". Then Wednesday, I had similar contractions every 5 minutes for 5-6 hours until they just stopped. At 8 pm last night I started having contractions again. They were 4-6 minutes apart and even stronger than the last 2 times this has happened. This time the contractions kept me up all night and lasted until 1 pm this afternoon (17 hours). They were very uncomfortable/painful and I was having to breathe through them. Now they are gone again. I am feeling very tired and frustrated now. I was just wanted to hear if anyone has had this happen and how things played out for you. Thanks!

It's been happening to me....seems every other day I have contractions for several hours at even intervals, but then they just go away. Guess it's just not time yet. Just remember - all these contractions are helping get your body ready for the main event, even if they are tiring and annoying. Heck, I'm staring a c/s in the face if mine don't turn into real labor by sunday.

Sounds like your body just needs a little jump start. Have you been walking a lot? DTD? That could be all you need to get into the real thing.

We walked a lot last night and this morning, but I know we need to keep it up. It has been storming here though. We have not DTD in a couple of days. I think we'll try again tonight. Thanks!

I have started having a few more contractions in the last half hour. I'm also feeling really crampy and my lower back is aching. I hope we can get things moving!

Having the same thing! Due June 21st with a boy.

I've been admitted to the hospital twice (one week apart for each admittance) with contractions (not BH) that they could see on the monitor which were 5 minutes apart and then progressed to 3 min apart ~ after HOURS and hours they simply stopped. I even waited 6 hours before going in the first time to make sure they weren't stopping....I'm not into drugs but I either want a little help keeping them going or want them to stop until its the real deal~ I can't face another hospital visit that I don't come home with the babe! I am feeling your discomfort and frustration! Lets hang in there! Keep us posted! HUGS

My EDD was June 9. I have not had any contractions yet. I am having a home birth so I have not had an internal exam. I might have to wait almost 2 more weeks to have my baby.

Sounds like Braxton Hicks.

I just did a birth that was like that not too long ago. The culprit was a malpositioned baby in her case. Labor would start and stop, until the baby got into a better position for birth. It could be just really strong BH too. Hang in there! You will be holding your little bean before you know it! :)

Wow mama, it sounds like we are going through the same thing! It is definitely no fun. Hang in there! :hugs:

It guess it could be Braxton Hicks, I have them all of the time. Literally I have had BH all day/everyday since about 20 weeks. It was the same with my first pregnancy. They have never been this strong before, though.

I've not had anymore excitement since Monday. I have an appointment with my midwife today, so we'll see what she says. She doesn't usually check me, but I think I will ask her to again today to see if these contractions were doing anything.

The most frustrating part is that I had to call into work on Monday due the the contractions, and now my boss is not letting me work. I don't see any reason why I can't work. I only work 3 days a week anyway. I can't afford to stay at home without the baby here yet!

Thanks for all of your thoughts/ideas!

I did this with my DS. It seems like I would have contractions for days at a time, but none that ever stopped me from doing stuff. Just consistent contractions. I walked around 4.5 cm dilated for over a week, so I guess it was just my body getting ready. I asked my doctor how much they'd let me dilate before admitting me to the hospital and she said 6! Insanity!
