My doctor told me today that as of Friday, I will be 34 weeks, and he will not stop labor once it starts progressing. So I have been on bedrest for a few weeks, and contractions are happening with more frequency and taking more and more rest and fluids to stop.
I know I am very lucky to have it stop on its own without medication so far, but I am still nervous about this whole thing.
Does anyone have experience with a baby born around 34 weeks? My OB is not willing to make any predictions as far as respiration, feeding, NICU - he says it could go either way but she would probably be in NICU for a week or two.
Anecdotal evidence anyone?

I know what you are feeling.:hugs: :hugs: :hugs:
I was in the hospital on bedrest from 24-34 weeks. Yes 10 weeks.
Anyways, I was allowed to go home at 34 weeks, because my Dr.s were not going to stop labor for me either. Well I had contractions between 3-10 min apart for the next three weeks.:giggle:
I didn't deliver until 37 weeks to the day.
So you might deliver at 34, but you might make it a bit longer too.
Good luck!

go and talk to either a pedi. or one of the NICU doctors up at the hospital that you are going to deliever. They will give you stats.
I was hospitalized for contrac. at 24wks and a NICU doc came in and told me all the stats if the baby was born at 24; and the decrease risks as the baby "bakes" longer. I am still on bedrest; but at 34wks she will take me off, and i will go see a chiro if baby is still breech and then she will allow my body to do whatever it needs to.
My understanding is when you hit 32 weeks you and baby are out of the "DANGER ZONE".

my sister had her twins at 35 weeks. They were small (But not terribly - around 5lbs each). They spent a few days in the NICU and a few more in the special care nursery because of jaundice. The overall stay was just about a week and they are perfectly healthy. Never really got very sick.

My last baby was born at 34 weeks and he was healthy right from the begining. He threatened to come at 24 weeks, 30 weeks, and 32 weeks. I had steroid shots at the 30 week mark. I was able to bring him home with me after 3 days. We had to watch him for jaundice but other than that he was great. He was also my biggest baby at 6 lbs 9 oz.
