DS is just 3 mo, but I'm starting to consider what we are going to do when it comes to introducing solids. I'm really thinking about making my own baby food. Is there a great resource book out there? Or cookbook that you love?

Are baby food makers worth the $$, or is a food processor good enough?

First Meals by Annabel Karmel is my favorite!

The only equipment I used was my food processor, blender, and ice cube trays (for freezing). Worked like a charm for us!

Good luck!

We like the super baby food book because it gives good recommendations for when to introduce different foods and also how to prepare/store/freeze. There are recipes in there but I really haven't tried them yet.

Super baby food by Ruth Yaron is by far the BEST book I have ever owned. It has soooooooo many tips, not only for making baby food and how to feed your baby, but how to save money on just about everything. She is really funny too. I also bought a baby food kit that came with the covered ice cube trays. Honestly, the book is not that great, but the trays are. I would recommend just buying the trays since they are covered.
As for buying a special baby food maker don't waste your money. I use a blender or our magic bullet. You could even hand mash some things like bananas, avocados etc. Since everything is so soft you really can just hand mash most everything.

I also forgot to mention you can do a google search on baby food as well. I also like wholesomebabyfood.com. It has a lot of recipes and information on baby food as well! Good luck!

I liked Annabel Karmel-Top 100 Baby Purees. It details basics like how to prep and how long to make simple stuff like carotts. For an idiot in the kitchen..like me:blush: this was perfect.

I wouldnt get anything else fancy. I used an attachment that came with my blender and ice trays. Worked like a charm.

Happy food making

I have the First Foods book. Personally I couldn't get the ice cube trays to work. My food just got stuck in them. Maybe it is just my freezer though. I ended up buying small containers (about the size of the stage 1 gerber ones) and freezing the food in those. Then I could just defrost them and serve from them. Oh and I just have a regular old food processor.

We just use a food processor and ice cube trays. I never found a book that I really liked, so I just went online and found recipes. I kind of did my own thing and so far it's worked out perfectly (My LO is 9 mo.).

This maybe a little old school, but I would suggest going to the library if you can to check out a few of the books before you buy them. I read all of the reviews and some of the books with really good raves just didn't do it for me. This way you won't waste your $$!!!
