Sullivan Danger (with a nice Irish last name!)
born July 1, 2008 at 3:07pm
Weighing 8#12ozs and measuring 20" long
My labor story is pretty short but it's funny. I was having some very mild contractions the night before and then I started getting the kidney pains again. I went in pretty early to see my dr. and see what she thought of my pain. My swelling had gotten bad but I was ignoring it and honestly didn't think to mention it. Well, a nurse took my bp and it was high she poked at my legs and we started the whole pre-e convo again. No, I don't have it. Yes, they checked urine. Blah.Blah.Blah. Pain in my side may or may not be kidneys, no way to tell at this point. Stomach is not looking good though (muscle wise). Ok, so where do we stand? Time to go ahead and put me in labor.
Pitocin doesn't work real well on me but we started it at 9:30'ish and sure enough at noon I still wasn't in labor. Seriously, I was hanging out looking at reciepes and such, nothing nada. The dr. decided to break my water as that always throws me into labor. I put my epi request in and he beat the dr. up (she was doing a d&c). I had my epidural in at 12:30pm. My dr. comes up at 1pm exact and breaks my water. Within 30 minutes I am in labor! I was dilated to 4 and still only 50% effaced though. The nurses stayed close as they new I went fast. I was feeling good (obviously) and at 2:40 my hubby said his 3pm guess was about to fly out the window. The nurse said it would be a while as my contractions were 3 minutes apart and I had only started at 4cm. I laughed and said I could do 3pm!
At 2:57'ish I pushed my button and said it was time. My nurse came in, called my dr to get in and I said "The pressure arrived. It's just about time to push". Once again EVERYONE was running around trying to get everything in order and telling me not to push (dh and I were kind of laughing at them, we know better). So here I sit, waiting around on everyone just like last time. My dr. said let me just check you and see if you are at ten. I looked at her like "Duh" thinking I am telling you let's push and I have done this a few times. She checked and sure enough there was Sullivan and his fuzzy hair. She said whenever your ready and I pushed hard and long and out he came (yes, only 1 push!).
It was that easy! the nurses were saying "I know it was marked you go fast but I wasn't expecting that". He was born at 3:07pm and would've been earlier had I not had to wait.
Here are some more pics of Sullivan Danger looking as cute as can be!
